Activision ‘Too Bullish’ To Get Beatles Tunes

Whether you love them or hate them, there’s no doubt that The Beatles remain one of the most influential names in music and are still incredibly successful despite having broken up decades ago and half the band being deceased. Many illustrious and well-known bands have lent their tracks to the various music rhythm games but thus far the Fab Four’s songs have been absent from the scene.

Unsurprisingly both Activision and MTV have been courting the rights to put Beatles songs in their titles. A few days ago it was announced that MTV had won the battle. Sony/ATV CEO Martin Bandier says that Activision sabotaged their chances by an overly aggressive pitch: “It was presented as if they were doing the music business a favor.”

He went on to say that for many of the bands featured in the games it can be a great source of exposure and so the makers can pick and choose from who they include based on that. “When it comes to the Beatles, the leverage changes,” Bandier said.
