Gears of War 2 Sells 2 Million Copies, Helps Break Xbox Live Record

November 12th, 2008 Posted in Action, Business, News, Online, Xbox 360 by Will Prusik

This year has been filled with highly anticipated games and while it’s probably impossible to guess which one is the most looked forward to Gears of War 2 was undoubtedly one of the top competitors and its sales figures for its launch weekend were proof of that. Sales for the title topped two million units in the first few days of its release.

The title’s online performance has shown the appeal of the online multiplayer in both co-op and horde mode. More than one and a half million people logged onto Xbox Live which helped break the largest number of people concurrently logged into the service at one time. This record probably had a lot to do with the fact that the title was released simultaneously worldwide, something unusual in the industry.
