Only New Wii Speak Users Can Use Voice Chat

November 13th, 2008 Posted in Wii by Rajiv Ashrafi

wii-voice-chat-1 Pissed off by the fact that gamers do buy second-hand games, Nintendo has announced that the voice chat accessory that will launch alongside Animal Crossing: City Folk this week will feature a code that will be used to download the Wii Speak channel. But more interestingly, the 16-digit code “cannot be replaced by Nintendo or your retailer if it is lost or stolen,” according to the title’s press release.

MTV carries word from a Nintendo representative that the Wii Speak channel won’t be available in the Wii Shop channel for purchase. While in-game voice chat will still work on an used device, one of its major functions will be restricted to those who only buy it new.

What do you guys think? Is Nintendo being too strict about this?
