Aussie Cop Says Racing Games Create Irresponsible Drivers
Once again a public figure has come forth to criticize the effect of video games on the youth of the world. A police officer from Australia has come forth to say that racing video games like the Need for Speed and Grand Turismo series lead young drivers to take more risks and drive much more recklessly. There is a little bit of credibility to this issue as German researchers found that male drivers were more likely to take risks than women after playing racing games.
Unfortunately what these police officers probably aren’t asking is how many of the young drivers who don’t take risks play racing games. They also don’t give any evidence that the connection between large numbers of reckless young drivers and gaming is anything more than an assumption.
