PETA Complains About Meat-Focus in Cooking Mama

November 18th, 2008 Posted in Casual, Culture, News, Nintendo DS, Wii by Will Prusik

Games coming under attack by various social groups is nothing new, but a casual, family-friendly game isn’t often what takes fire. Animal activist group PETA has come out in protest of the Cooking Mama series. Their beef with the lighthearted cooking simulator is in that it’s not very animal friendly do to its lack of vegetarian recipes.

The group has launched a website that asks fans of the series to join in the effort: “Please give Mama a voice – write to Majesco and politely ask that it create more vegetarian recipes for Mama or even a game with just vegetarian recipes!” While it is admirable of the organization to encourage polite letters/emails, the website goes for a much more brutal tactic. It includes a flash game that has players removing the feathers and organs of dead turkey to prepare it for a Thanksgiving dinner.
