Cooking Mama Responds To PETA By Highlighting Recipes In New Game

November 20th, 2008 Posted in Casual, Culture, News, Simulation, Wii by Will Prusik

Recently animal activist group PETA put out a call for animal lovers to protest the meat-heavy recipes in cooking simulation series Cooking Mama. Along with a flash game that highlights the ‘brutality’ of preparing animals for cooking they urged their supporters to write to the game’s publisher and ask for more vegetarian recipes in the title, or even a separate game altogether.

The company has come out in defense of the series via its protagonist, the “food lover and culinary cutie” Cooking Mama. Here’s what she ’says’ via the company’s press release: “I would never put rat in my Ratatouille,” said a feisty Mama while beating some eggs. “Like any accomplished cook, I create my recipes to appeal to a broad range of tastes and preferences. My only goal is to ensure you leave the table well fed.”

The newest title in the series, Cooking Mama: World Kitchen for the Wii includes more than twenty-five vegetarian friendly recipes including breakfasts, dinners, desserts and snacks.
