Square Enix: LA Team Working on Downloadable Titles

November 20th, 2008 Posted in PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360 by Rajiv Ashrafi

square1.jpgSpeaking to Gamesindustry, Square Enix US president John Yamamoto revealed that the company’s new Los Angeles studio will start by working on downloadable games.

“We started the in-house development team a couple of months ago and we’re starting with downloadable content because the team is still small,” he said. “All formats–Xbox Live, WiiWare, PlayStation Network–are all viable formats for us.”

Yamamoto further revealed that the LA development team consists of a “skeleton crew of only three members,” and that the publisher wants to boost that team up to 30 by the next year.

The new studio will also focus on researching middleware following the success of The Last Remnant, which runs on Epic’s Unreal Engine 3.

He did not talk about the recently revealed multiplatform action game for which the studio is currently recruiting.
