Shinji Mikami, creator of the Resident Evil franchise, has revealed that he won’t be playing Resident Evil 5, the upcoming entry in the venerable survival horror series. He claims that it would make him “angry” if it wasn’t as he would like.
Mikami, who now works for Platinum Games, simply stated: “I probably won’t play it. I won’t like it, because it’s not going to be the game I would have made. It’ll just cause me stress if I play it.
He thinks that it could be fun for gamers to play it, but not for someone “who has developed Resident Evil games.”
The developer also talked about his feelings about the series in general, noting that while its fine for RE5 to copy its predecessor’s gameplay formula, the sixth game should take a new direction.
Resident Evil 5 is due out March 2009 on PS3 and Xbox 360.
