Analyst: Nintendo Makes $6 Per Wii
It’s long been known that Nintendo is the only company turning a profit from their console. Microsoft and Sony sell the Xbox 360 and PS3 at a loss, making that up in profits from games and peripherals. There hasn’t been much speculation about exactly how much money Nintendo is making on the Wii though. Here’s an opportunity for an analyst to tell us something we don’t actually know.
David Gibson, an analyst at Macquarie Securities has speculated that Nintendo is turning a profit of $6 per console sold. It seems like a pittance individually, but since they’ve sold over thirty-five million consoles that adds up to over two hundred and ten million dollars in profits. Throw in all the money they’ve made on games, Virtual Console titles and all the various add-ons and peripherals for the console and you’re looking at quite a tidy profit for Nintendo.
