Dante’s Inferno Adventure Game Confirmed

The God of War series showed that with the right style and twists source material from years ago can be made into an excellent game series. It definitely helps that certain works of fiction and ideas are considered public domain and can thus be utilized without shelling out money for licensing rights.
EA has confirmed speculations circling the interwebs that one of their studios is working on a video game adaptation of Dante Aligheri’s epic poem that created much of the archetypes western society has used for their depictions of hell and purgatory. The game is being created by EA Redwood shores, the team that created the survival horror hit Dead Space. The title will remain true to at least the bare bones idea of the story with the main character Dante travelling down the nine circles of hell in pursuit of his beloved Beatrice.
There’s little more to go on than this, as the official press release is short on details. The press release does state that the game is based on The Divine Comedy, the full three poems that describe a journey through heaven, hell and purgatory but the game is entitled simply Dante’s Inferno. No platforms have been confirmed yet, but the third person action-adventure game is planned for 2009.
