Dead Rising, Lost Planet Sequels Going Multiplatform

January 28th, 2009 Posted in Action, Adventure, News, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Two early hits for the Xbox 360 were zombie slaying sandbox game Dead Rising and Lost Planet. Dead Rising is rising again as a somewhat altered Wii port and Lost Planet has been released for the PS3 as well. Now early reports from Japan are saying that multiplatform sequels for both games are in the works.

These reports come from Keiji Inafune of Capcom by way of monthly gaming magazine Famitsu Xbox 360. He says that being multiplatform is a guarantee for the ’super sequels’ but they’re considering giving a bonus to Xbox 360 owners who buy the titles for that platform.

It’s great to see more multiplatform titles, but I wonder why they feel the need to give a bonus to those buying it for the 360.

People who own both systems will buy the 360 version for the bonus, thus skewing the data in favor of the 360, and potential customers on the PS3 will at best grow irritated with the development company. I imagine that this kind of offensive snub is not easily forgotten by its potential customer base.

So how is this wise? They may encourage a few more 360 owners to buy the game, but the long term effects may do more damage than the few extra initial sales can make up for.
