Top 10 reasons the PS3 is failing
The PS3 is trailing at a distant third, behind the Xbox 360 and well behind the Wii. We’ve gathered out top ten reasons the PlayStation 3 is failing at the moment.
10: Too many and confusing SKUs.
Since the PS3 was released in 2006, there have been seven official SKUs in production, with differences in everything from the amount of USB ports, to backwards compatibility, to WiFi, to flash card readers and even Super Audio CD support. With so many SKUs, it’s no surprise that gamers are confused.
And those who decide to buy a PS3, spend a long time figuring out what to get, delaying their purchase, and in some cases, just give up because of the possibility of Sony releasing yet another SKU. Luckily for hopeful PS3 owners, there are currently only two SKUs in production; the 80 GB and the 160 GB versions, both with two USB ports, no backwards compatibility, WiFi and… that’s it.
9: Controller SNAFU
Remember the first PS3 controller, the boomerang? Remember the Sixaxis, with bad motion controls on all six axis, and no rumble? It took Sony three tries to make up their minds on a controller; the Dualshock 3, which is now the standard controller for the console.
The problem is that it was released a year and a half after the launch of the console itself. This is not entirely a hardware issue, but a testament to the fact that Sony has a hard time making up their minds, like with the seven SKUs that have been in production.
8: Sony arrogance
The massive success of the PS2 turned Sony’s confidence into sheer arrogance, when initially relying on “brand loyalty” to sell the PS3, despite being inferior, more expensive and lacking decent “killer-app” games well into the second year after it was released. Sony’s Ken Kutaragi said the $600 price tag was “probably too cheap” adding that “people will, without question, purchase it”. We think otherwise.
Sony’s spent more time pushing the Blu-ray format, thinking that the gaming side will take care of itself simply because the console was named “PlayStation”. They were thereby fighting a war on two sides — with Microsoft and with Toshiba — further driving the focus away from where it should have been: making games and supporting developers.
7: A developer’s bag of hurt
There’s no shortage of developer rants against the PS3, it’s a very difficult system to work make games for. Valve’s Gabe Newell called the PS3 a “total disaster”. Midway Games’ Shaun Himmerick said it was a “huge pain in the ass”, and even Sony’s own Kaz “Riiidge Raaacer” Hirai said it was “hard to program for”.
However, this isn’t new to Sony; the PS2 was likewise difficult to develop on, and instead of learning from those mistakes, Sony created an even more complicated platform for the PS3. It doesn’t matter how powerful it is, if the software libraries, the compilers and tools are not sufficient, then it’s useless. You can have a 1000 HP sports car, but it’s no good to you if it doesn’t have a set of good wheels, a decent transmission and so on.
6: (Very) Expensive manufacturing costs
The PS3’s high price is a result of the complicated and high end hardware Sony uses in the PS3. At launch, they were losing hundreds of dollars for every console sold, and today, even after several updated and new, cheaper components, Sony still loses a big sum of money for every console they sell.
Some analysts have even suggested that Sony will continue to lose money on the PS3 during its entire lifetime, which is especially problematic since Sony expects the PS3 to last at least another 5 years.
5: Still no strong game library
Looking at the NPD console attach ratio (i.e. how many games per console are sold), the PS3 is severely lacking behind, having only 4.6 games sold per system, where as the Xbox 360 has 7.5 games sold per system.
This only boils down to the PS3s inferior game library; it not only has a lot less key first party titles than its competitor, but the PS3 ports of multi-platform titles are almost always inferior in one way or another, despite developers having several years to work with the PS3 now.
4: Weak ports
It’s been common knowledge that when games are released on several systems, the PS3 version is usually the inferior one. Not only are they inferior, they’re usually released later than the Xbox 360 counterparts. Madden 08 for instance, ran at 30 fps as opposed to 60 fps on the Xbox 360. Another example, Lost Planet, was not only released almost a year later on the PS3, but ran at a very sluggish frame rate and was missing a lot of the eye candy.
A major reason for the bad ports is simply the difficulty working with the system. Developer Valve for instance, has given up on porting games (like The Orange Box) to the PS3 because it’s simply too difficult and expensive, and instead has left that to EA. EA ported The Orange Box to the PS3, where it was delayed and had to undergo several patches before it was playable at a decent level.
3: “Killer-apps”: too few, too late
One of the most critically acclaimed PS3 games, Metal Gear Solid 4, was released 18 months after the launch of the PS3. Killzone 2, another critically acclaimed title, was released almost two and a half years after the PS3 launched. Same goes for Little Big Planet: 2 years.
It’s far too obvious that it takes a lot more resources, time and money to make a decent PS3 game, as opposed to a decent Xbox 360 game, even for first party developers. It doesn’t make it easier for Sony with the fact that Sony is losing more and more exclusives to the Xbox 360, and, in some cases, the PC as well.
2: Still the most expensive console
The PS3 started by retailing at 500 and 600 dollars, way more expensive than the competition, and was criticized by everyone except the hardest of the hardcore PlayStation fans. Currently the two SKUs cost 399 and 499, while Microsoft has a 199, 299 and 399 Xbox 360 model.
This gives the Xbox 360 — the main competitor to the PS3 — a big advantage when it comes to first time console buyers. Most of them are neither Xbox nor PlayStation fans, they’re getting into the console wars this console generation. If you spend $400 on a console and buy the wrong one, it’s going to hurt a lot more than if you spend 200 and buy the wrong one.
1: Loss of exclusive titles
A game console is defined by its games, or rather, the games exclusive to that console. Over the years, the PS3s bad sales and steep developing costs has cost Sony several titles that were before exclusive to the platform, titles like Grand Theft Auto 4, Assassin’s Creed, Virtua Fighter 5, Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5, which will be released shortly on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. Not to mention the highly anticipated Final Fantasy XIII, which should hit the stores later this year.
Had Sony managed to keep only a few of these titles exclusive to the PS3, like Grand Theft Auto 4, the current console battle would have looked a lot different. Instead, Sony gambled on Blu-ray to drive the sales of the PS3, hoping to repeat what they did with the PS2 and the DVD drive. The PS2 however, had a ton of great games, many of which where exclusive to the platform.

You really need to get a life my man. The PS3 is only a great value if you intend on using all the options. I have a launch Ps3 with all the bells and whistles and I use barely any of it. I don’t use wireless, no self respecting gamer should, and everything else doesn’t matter.
Games matter and the 360 enjoys a huge lead in that department. Sony lineup is getting better, but its still far behind where the Xbox is right now. I own both and I am glad I do. I am not some dumb fanboy like you that feels the need to bitch about things you don’t understand.

what!!!! Orange Box was an unbelievable port! it was the lack of updates that made it less favored. But as a veteran playing it on both systems, the PS3 version has much less lag overall playing TF2. I commend the port.

VERY good article, what took so long for someone to write this.
I actually purchased a PS3 based on fanboy lies and biased the media telling me it is as great or greater than the 360; I got the PS3 home only to be shocked at how 2nd rate it is compared to the highly refined user experience my 360 delivered, and it RROD 3 times!!!! I still prefer it over my PS3.

hey 20million ps3s sold is not failing. and its up to the developers to make the graphics better then each other . and ive seen plenty of articles of how the developers like the way they can build on a ps3. Your right about the price cut, but they have more better exclusives then xbox360. xbox has gears of war, gears of war 2, halo 3. there top titles right there. we got resistance, resistance2 . little big planet, kill zone 2, mgs4 . and those are all top notch Grade A games. you dont know how to write a good blog, you seem like a fanboy. I own a wii, and its only bought because its popular, and it seems like the xbox is the same .Ps3 in the end is worth its value, xbox you gota buy wifi, online for a year sub , and hd cables etc. ps3 is the better deal and better games.

#10 SKU store front are basically the same just with different HDD sizes. Want confusion look at my 360, I have a 2 Pros and 1 Elite.
#9 The Boomerang was a joke and it was used for the PS1 too, I used that controller to play FFVII not the original controller that came with the system. Rumble was taken out due to the lawsuit with Immotion, and Sixaxis was based off of motion control on Warhawk for the PS1 also.

The PS3 still costs way too much. People want to play games, and the 360, being the cheapest, is the least expensive way to get a game console in the house to play games on. Maybe the PS3 is a better value in the end, but the fact is that it’s still the difference between dropping $200 on a console and $400 on a console.
As a 360 owner I’ll be the first to say that Microsoft really gets you on the extras. Xbox Live, rechargeable batteries, extra controllers, the overpriced hard drives, the $80 WiFi adapter. They even force developers to charge for downloadable content that would have otherwise been given away.
But consumers don’t care about this; not immediately. They see the $200 price tag and they think, “holy shit, an Xbox 360 for $200! That’s a good price!” And they buy it.
Microsoft was smart about it. Their strategy was to just make sure people bought the consoles. PS3 may be a better value as far as features go but it still costs twice as much to get it in the door. If it had been similarly priced I bet the competition would be way closer right now.

Also, I don’t think the problem so much is the number of SKUs but the confusing difference between the PS3 consoles. The 360 has multiple SKUs but overall it’s the same console. This one might have different cables and this one has a bigger hard drive and this one uses this new chip but there’s no huge differences between them.
With the PS3, this version has hardware PS2 compatibility, this one software emulation, this one WiFi, this one no WiFi, this plays SACD, but not this one, this one has 4 USB ports and this one has 2, no flash card readers in this one, this one is still being produced and this one isn’t.
Well at least now the ones in production have no PS2 emulation, no flash card readers, no SACD support and just 2 USB ports.

I don’t want to spend 600 bucks for a bloated piece of crap when I can spend 200 – 400 and get the very same (if not better) experience without the outstanding cost of the console itself.
But yes, Microsoft is making hand over fist in money (more than anyone else in the market right now). More or less because they know one thing: how to make money. They hit gold with Xbox Live.
Sounds like to me that Microsoft completely thought out their plan. While yes, you do spend more money on a 360 than you would on a PS3(eventually anyway). The 360 is actually worth it, and can be justified. I can’t justify to myself buying a bloody 600 dollar machine I’ll hardly play.

Nick, I own a PS3 and I am happy with it. Know why? Because I can play all my old games on it. I can play the newest games coming out. I can change the harddrive in case my old one fills up. I can watch bluray movies, I can browse the internet in case I’m too lazy to turn on my PC. I can use my PS3 as a backup if something happens to my PC.
You are a misinformed person. The PS3 costs $400.00 and right now I’d wish I paid that kind of money instead of getting it for $600.00.

Uhm, can I just point out that there’s only one person here I have seen who claims to actually be a programmer (Mashimato).
Yes, I have tried making games for the PS3, but the Cell architecture is much harder to write code for.
This is because I’ve taken a class in x86 assembly, and can write code for my computer.
There are 2 ways to make a processor faster:
1) Increasing the frequency at which it operates.
2) Changing the internal architecture of the processor.
The PS3 is a much more powerful beast, x86 processors are engineered to be quick, by masking the slow parts of a computer.
The Cell is designed not to have slow parts, so it is capable of speeds much higher (up to 10 times supposedly) than the x86 design.
I own neither system, but I’m a programmer, and I work more with low level programming languages than high level.
I own none of these consoles, I just have my desktop with a core I7
. The Xbox is old news, anyone can make an x86 system. But the cell processor could replace x86 in 10 years, and programmers have to be prepared for their languages to abruptly and quickly become obsolete. It’s part of the business.
This article is pure crap. The person who wrote it, and anyone who supports it does not have a technical understanding of the cell processor.

Think about this in terms of sales, According to a Gamasutra’s research department, 1/3rd of the people who intend to buy God Of War 3 don’t own a PS3 yet. So chances are that the PS3 sales are going to spike when GoW3 comes out.

Alot of serious feelings in here…. WOW severe overreactions on both sides of the fence!
Why did I buy a PS3? because I am a casual gamer that diggs HD. I wanted a low-cost blu-ray player, wireless web browsing, and HD gaming system without having to buy EVERYTHING SEPERATE. I got all three for $400 and still feel great about my purchase almost 1 year later. I have no loyalties, It is ALL about buying something that has the features I WANT at the best price.
Last gen, I had a PS2, then an Xbox and my only complaint is with the Xbox not having DVD playback built in. All Corporations are greedy, this we know, but why does Microsoft insist on raping everyone’s wallet with the things Sony considers part of the package?
Sure you can get an Xbox for $199… but for my particular circumstance i would have had to pay $170 for the add-on blu-ray player (which wasn’t out yet because Microsoft went with HD DVD), An overpriced ($100ish) HDD to make up for the tiny 512MB memory card included with the arcade console, $60/year for online gaming, AND yet another $100 for the wireless network adapter.
So the Xbox 360 would be an estimated $630+controllers and cables+$60/year for 3 or 4 more years+games, while a PS3 with similar specs and extra HDD space would be $400+controllers and cables+games.
Other than enjoying Halo 3, why in the fuck would someone like me buy an Xbox 360 unless they weren’t smart enough to add up the long term costs ahead of time?… I didn’t even mention the 30%ish hardware failure rate or other cons involved with buying anything from Microsoft.
Go ahead, add it up. no matter which Xbox 360 Console you buy, it is still WAY more than the PS3 if you need what I did from a gaming/home entertainment system.

I would add to the list, if not to the top, piracy!
Nobody would like to admit but piracy is definitely a major console sales booster.
Piracy is not directly good for game sales but is great for the console vendors. But with a strong console consumer base, the console becomes more attractive for developers and more games are created (and sold). I believe piracy is really a key player in making or breaking a console.
I think what Microsoft and the X360 will be the future. If you want to play offline using copied games, fine, there is nothing we can do about it. But if you want to play online, you better buy the game or you are banned.

I own a PS3 and I mostly agree with the article.
My comments:
#10: Too many SKU’s. I totally agree. I was lucky enough to get a PS3 that has *some* (not full) backwards compatibility. I think Sony should have only produced 2 or 3 SKU’s max.
#9: Bad controllers. I too was disappointed that my Sixaxis didn’t have rumble features.
#8: Arrogance. I definitely agree that the fanboys (me pretty much included) have a lot of PS3 pride. Oh, and Sony too.
#7: Hard to program for. There are two sides to this story. It is harder to develop for, yes, but that is because it has greater processing capabilities than its competition. With great power comes great stress on the developers if they want to utilize its full capacity.
#6: Expensive manufacturing costs. This isn’t an opinion, it is fact. And of course costs are dropping, they are always dropping as time continues. But I agree that Sony should have planned for this a little better.
#5: No strong game library. I would have wholly agreed with this statement when I first got my PS3 – Motorstorm wasn’t exactly my idea of a fun time. But this is changing, slowly but surely.
#4: Weak ports. I didn’t buy Orange Box. I don’t know.
#3: Big games released too late. TOTALLY TRUE. When the PS3 first came out, there was no real reason to buy it other than its superior hardware and the promise of future bad*ss games. If they had introduced something like MGS4 with the release of the PS3, they could have gotten off to a running start. This is obvious when you asked your friends “do you have a PS3?” and they answered “I’m gonna buy it when MGS4/GTA4 comes out.”
#2: Most expensive console. This is indeed very important for certain markets. As the author said, fanboys (I am one, don’t be offended) will find a way to afford the next PlayStation. But parents of 1st-generation gamers don’t have gamer-brand loyalty. And especially with all the depression talk going on now, the highest-priced gaming console has a natural disadvantage.
#1: Loss of exclusive titles. The argument that some “exclusives” weren’t truly exclusive is *irrelevant*. What the author means is that they were exclusive to the PlayStation in the Sony-Microsoft-Nintendo competition, and that those games gave a huge advantage to the PlayStation in that battle.
As a PS2/PS3 owner who has held a Wii-mote and X-Box controller less than 10 combined hours in his life, I admit that having the Xbox get GTA4 was indeed a tragedy to my Sony fanboy pride. Any Sony supporter who denies the importance of the loss of exclusive games in the Sony-Microsoft-Nintendo battle is frankly in denial.
In short – I was an avid PS3 supporter that has suffered the pain of Sony’s less-than-phenomenal track run with the PS3. I still prefer the Sony brand of games over Xbox and Wii, but I suppose I will have to wait a few more long years to see if Sony can pull off what the PS3 was SUPPOSED to be, with the PS4.
ps – Xbox will always have RROD. Deal with it

My Wii is useless to me, i dont really enjoy family games.
My PS3 is just a blu-ray player.

First of all, I’m not going to be “vulgar”.
Instead, I’m just going to point out quite a few things.
One, I own all three consoles and thing all three have their pros and cons.
That being said, this article fails on so many levels.
10. You CAN replace the hard drive yourself (which actually is the only difference between the SKUs). All they are is a laptop-sized SATA hard drive. Hell, Gamepro had an article which told you exactly how you can get 500GBs out of the damn thing (the HDs that DO that are under $100 bucks now).
9. You DO realize that they were fighting a Immersion lawsuit, right? You cleverly forgot to mention that and spun it into something as if Sony had a CHOICE.
8. Yeah, they WERE douchebags at that point, but you acted as though they haven’t learned their lesson.
7. How about what Rockstar, Capcom, Bioware, Criterion, Dice, and Kojima have all said about it? Jesus, if you’re going to tell one side of the story, you HAVE to tell the OTHER side, too.
6. So…your proof of this is…WHAT?
5. So Killzone 2, LBP, MGS4, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Resistance, Resistance 2, GT5 Prologue, Wipeout HD, etc. are NOT quality titles? How high are you setting your standards?

Tell the entire story here: First, Valve has been using the outdated Source Engine for YEARS, they have been very immature about their “dislike” for the PS3 (maybe because it’s not exactly the same as a PC like the 360 is), and they were porting it FROM the 360 to the PS3 and not the other way around like people are doing now. With porting, so many developers were taking their games from the 360 to the PS3 with engines such as the Unreal engine, which has never played nice with the PS3. This is also because the 360 game has to fit on one DVD-9 disc, which means compression, and since MS is trying to play smart and demand that their version has the exact same quality as the other, paired with how developers want to be lazy about porting games, and you got a recipe for disaster.
3. Kojima is a perfectionist, GG was making an all new engine for KZ2 (and new engines take time to make), and LBP was a new IP. Plus, while Sony DOES have a tendency to announce things way too early, remember what happened with them and Kotaku about Home. Kotaku acted like douchebags and went about revealing Home WAY before Sony was ready to reveal it (and Sony DID ask Kotaku nicely not to, and Kotaku were acting as though they were going to expose Saddam’s imaginary WMDs). So you can see why Sony reveals things early: because so many media whores do their best to try to “expose” Sony somehow.
2. There ARE persistent rumors of a price cut that Sony continues to try to deny, but still. This is the only one I do agree with, though. They DO need a price cut…NOW! But don’t act like a price cut hasn’t ever been discussed.
1. Mark is trying to say that PS3 fanboys are the only ones that will “whine” that MS is buying their victory so far in the console war. Little does he forget about the 50 million dollars that MS gave Rockstar to get those two exclusive episodes, or that Gabe Newell has once been an MS employee, or the Square-Enix stuff about how they say they are multiplatform and we have yet to see a PS3 game out of them. C’mon, you can’t look at all of that and NOT think that something fishy is going on. Plus, PS3 owners aren’t even complaining about the lost exclusives, it’s that the PS3 owners have to wait even LONGER for an already delayed game because MS wants their version released at the same date as the PS3 version (thus, MS is screwing the PS3 owners out of their games). This is the most frustrating thing of all, and it’s even more frustrating to see people defend this and dismiss anyone calling out of these practices as PS3 fanboys (or try to find a way to say “oh, Sony did it, so they’re getting a taste of their own medicine”. HELLO, if it wasn’t alright for THEM to do it, why is it alright for MS to do it? That’s called a double standard).

PS3 might the right decision in terms of the expensive technology they used, it’s the only NEXT-GEN console in my opinion, as a techno-nut, i don’t buy this crap that because a product is released in this period, it means it’s next gen or even current gen. Most of the things that you consider fails, might just end up being the driving factors that hands Sony the Platinum Trophy in a few years…

Microsoft paid off Emersion’s law suit so they had rumble. Sony had to work around the lawsuit and finally came to a conclusion that allowed them to have rumble. Once again you have no substance to your argument. You are just flabbing your hands around once again.

The PS2 had a DVD drive in it and at the time DVD had not proven itself
yet. Microsoft went with an add-on of HD-DVD to XBOX 360 instead of integrating it into the system itself. Sony did pull a Trojan Horse but that is the only thing Sony took a risk on.
Sony did not rely on loyalty. Everywhere in their speeches they have kept it about interest, not loyalty. I do not know where you get the image of Sony relying on loyalty to have their console succeed yet again but saying their line-up of games well into the second year were not in ample supply is like saying every XBOX 360 and every Wii launch game scored 10’s. The Wii had but a few games that were even fun. Same with the XBOX 360. In fact Resistance is a launch game that did very well. Selling over 3 million copies within 6 months is a milestone for the PS3 that the 360 didn’t reach until *GEARS OF WAR I. In a Time-line the games were at pace with each other, but in a Time-frame the PS3 did better. That wasn’t the only game that reached over 3 million within its first two years of being released. MotorStorm also reached 3 million sold before the PS3’s first birthday.
So again your argument holds no substance. Right now I feel like you wrote this entire article in 20 minutes without doing the number one most important thing: RESEARCH*

Do you know how hard it was to develop for the PS2? I take it that you don’t know a thing about the PS2’s EE either. ‘Valve’s Gabe Newell’ never liked consoles. But where is Gabe Newell now that KillZone has surpassed his most recent works? What does Gabe Newell have to say about the PS3 when the likes of KillZone 2 is constantly being compared to Crysis, Gears of War, Halo, and even Call of Duty 4? The one thing that Newell never understood is that efficiency is the name of the game, not resources.
Also it doesn’t make your argument very solid when Ted Price has stated that it is easier to develop games on the PS3 than on the PS2.
Even in the statement you quoted from Midway Games’ Shaun Himmerick, “huge pain in the ass,” they explained that they must develop the game on the PS3 first. *PORTING the game doesn’t work since you deal with GPU’s instead of Proccessors. Thus why it seems hard to develop games on the PS3 because there is no “Easy port option” upon the creation of the ISO.
Once again another argument that holds no substance.

Sony is the only company this generation that is willing to take a loss for every console sold. Does Microsoft or Nintendo do the same? Right now you can build a 360 for around 170 dollars. A Wii costs around 150 to produce these days. A PS3 currently cost’s around $460 to produce.
At the begining these numbers were all different but the fact remains the same. Sony is the only company willing to do such a thing for the consumer. Besides that the consoles themselves are not supposed to be the main source of profit. It is supposed to be the games.
But as for this being a sort of failure… I really don’t see how the PS3 is going to die so easily because it costs more to produce than what they are selling it for when they have 3 formats floating around right now. SCE is not just PS3. It also includes PS2 and PSP. Each one contributes to each other. Nintendo is the only other company that supports more than one format and I applaud them for doing so as well, but Nintendo only has 2 current formats as where Sony is holding 3.
Again the argument is self defeating when you don’t look at the entire picture. Plus Sony holds a Production, Motion Picture, Record, and an Electronics studio. So I don’t see the PS3 becoming a “dud” anytime soon.

If you take the average of all the PS3 game ratings on meta critic right now you will find that it is higher than both the Wii’s, and the 360’s average scores. The 360 also holds the lowest meta critic score on a console game. The Wii has the most low scoring console games. However the 360 shares the highest scoring console game of this generation with the PS3. But the highest rated Console game is found on the Nintendo 64.

Seriously if you think that the PS3 holds too few exclusive applications then you are kidding yourself. Do not forget that there are the PSN games. Unlike XBL, the PSN has a full library of new IP’s instead of filling up the store with games from the 1980’s and early 1990’s, from other platforms such as arcade machines.

For the last time: Grand Theft Auto was never an exclusive franchise of SONY. GTA was a multiplatform franchise since its very first game.
The only example that is correct is Devil May Cry IV. Just because Sony had a list of games on their timeline before Microsoft did doesn’t mean the game was announced to be exclusive. Sony had never said any of the titles that were mentioned, besides Devil May Cry IV, as exclusive games. Once again you need to do better research. They only showed off demonstrations of the games on the PS3 hardware if anything.
If you had done some research you would have noticed that Fatal Inertia was to be an exclusive game to Sony but it went onto the XBOX 360 instead. That is another example but sadly you stuck with the main stream games that everyone had thought to be a PS3 exclusive to make a non existent point.

Kinda depends on what your definition of failing is. I has a 360 up until about a month before Halo 3 came out (yeah….one guess what game i brought it for) and it was only in the last month or two of owning it that it started to get a strong library of games. The PS3 is the same. Complainging about a small game library is kinda retarded, not to mention old. And with recently released *ports* being equal or better on the PS3, this is kind of an old Argument aswell.
On it being hard to program for, so was the PS2 and PSX. This seems to be a side effect of having an architecture with lots of potential, rather than sony deliberately making it hard to program for.
On SKU’s, The 360 has had around the same amount. At present I can buy an Arcade, a Pro and an Elite. Yet I can only buy one of two PS3 varients. Your argument fails right there.
On the Killer Apps arriving too late, if you look at the life time history of the consoles, the “killer apps” arrived about the same amount of time after launch for each console.
But more on your definition of failing….
Do you mean reliability wise? Well you couldnt possibly with an estimated <1% failure rate.
Do you mean as far as a Gaming machine? Well you could mean that, if you werent a gamer. Little Big Planet, Metal Gear, Wipeout HD, GT5P, GTA4, Time Crisis 4, Saints Row 2, Devil May Cry, Call Of Duty 4, Ridge Racer, Lair, Resitance, Resitance 2, Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Killzone 2. Doesnt sound like a console starved of quality games does it?
Do you mean as a home entertainment device? Not possible, seeing as I can watch pretty much any kind of Video disc on it, I can stream/store music and DivX films from my PC, I can load it up with linux if I want, I can browse the interwebs. Nope.
In Sales? Maybe. But considering the 360 was released with next to no competition a year earlier, and the PS3 has until this point sold faster than the 360 did, whilst also competing with the Wii, Id expect to find a “why the 360 is failing” article on your site… Is it there?
In making Sony money? Well same as with the 360…. I dont think its made much. That 1Billion to fix RRoD alone has to hurt.

10. There are only 2 SKU out right now: 80 and 40. Compared to 360’s 3 SKUs, which actually affects gameplay (lack of HDD on one).
9. You don’t know much about gaming do you? Boomerang was a prototype, kinda like in cars where they have concepts. Sixaxis was made because they were in lawsuit with the Dualshock. Dualshock was made after the lawsuit was settled. GG at your knowledge.
8. Sony hasn’t been arrogant since 2006. MS are the ones who claim that they will always set the bar in graphics and stuff like BluRay is not needed.

I own both consoles but I only use the PS3 for the rare exclusives that come out.
PS3 Cons:
- ugly as hell
- slow blu-ray drive
- mandatory installs with no apparent effect compared to X360 loading times
- PSN is beyond crappy
- crappy controllers (I have a pair of launch SIXAXIS pads).
X360 Cons:
- loud
- paid Live subscription
- expensive WiFi (not that any self-respecting FPS gamer uses that for playing..)

That sounded like a 360 fanboy rant from someone wishing it was still 2006! Most of those posts are biased rubbish, it’s hardly worth reading.
10) SKU’s, they were not all out all at once and some were region specific. In addition currently the only difference is the HDD size so this is hardly confusing. The 360 by contrast varies in spec radically by SKU, so by his own logic must be far more confusing for the consumer.
9) Moot point left over from 2006, the controller now is the DualShock 3 end of. This is only an issue for early adopters, which by definition already own the console anyway. Also the PS1 added Analogue Sticks to it’s controller partway through it’s lifecycle (a FAR more significant and game effecting change) and it didn’t do that much harm did it?
7) Again old news, most developers now admit the PS3 isn’t that bad afterall and games this year are starting to show the fruits of that additional effort. If I wanted to play a glorified PC game I would get a PC (and incidently most 360 games are available for PC!), there’s a fine line between easy and lazy… And to quote Gabe Newell the biggest and possibly fattest Xbox 360 fanboy/PS3 hater in the development community is hillarious! This is the same approach as the PS1 and PS2, and will probably apply to the PS4, it’s why PS consoles last so long and why they can continue to surprise year after year (just look at the stunning God of War II on the PS2 released AFTER the PS3 had launched! If the console was made less complex those results would not have been possible and the quality of games would have plateaued years earlier).
6) Again welcome to 2006, the cost of PS3 production is plummeting all of the time, and it is pretty well documented that when the 45nm version launches it will receive a 3rd year price cut which will accelerate sales. Remember the PS3 was regularly beating the 360 in sales until MS applied THEIR 3rd year price cut in September (again selective memories from 360 fanboys). Also it’s a long applied business model in the console industry to sell it at a loss – something all consoles bar the Wii have done. (I hope this guy hasn’t kid himselve into thinking the 360 is remotely profitable, what with the billions spent on returns/waranties, the hundreds of millions spent on buying in exclusives, the hundreds of millions spent on blanket advertising etc etc, before you even get to production costs).
5) Again maybe true in 2006, but the sad fact for 360 fanboys is the PS3 exclusive list for 2009 kicks the 360 out of the park – to name a few: KillZone 2, inFamous, Heavy Rain, MAG, God of War III, Uncharted 2, etc etc. And what’s this utter sh*t about the PS3’s inferior 1st party support?! The PS3 1st party support wipes the floor with the 360, which relies heavily on paying big cash sums for buying in exclusivity. Halo and Fable are about the only 2 1st party franchises of note on the 360. Aside from a few notable exceptions (Gears of War for example), the 360 still relies on Halo, even resorting to applying it’s brand to crap RTS games nowadays… As for the ratios quoted – THE 360 HAS BEEN ON SALE FOR 12-18 MONTHS LONGER THAN THE PS3, so it stands to reason those owners have more time to buy games.
4) Again this fanboy is living in the past, any game worthy of note now has a decent port to the PS3, indeed more and more titles are using the PS3 as the primary development platform.
3) Yet again old news, what was so great that the 360 launched with? I believe it took 2 years for Halo 3 to be released, longer than MGS4?! Besides, it is never too late for a killer-app (see above God of War II). The 2009 lineup is massive and the console is not even 2 years old yet in Europe, that’s hardly unreasonable, and it’s not as if there haven’t been standouts before like Uncharted (first Xmas in Europe).
2) Again, depends on your stance to over priced extras like Wi-Fi and HDD’s and having to pay to play online. But regardless of that you are compare a console AFTER IT’S YEAR 3 PRICE CUT to a console BEFORE IT’S YEAR 3 PRICE CUT!
1) Again old news, a lot of titles on the PS2 were exclusive by default given it’s massive sales advantage, also agreements such as GTA were limited to the PS2 console. These are hardly losses, and it’s not as if they aren’t available on the PS3 as well. It is well documented that the market has moved to mutiplatform because increased costs and the market conditions in general – this has affected the 360 as much as it as affected the PS3 (it’s just perceived as being a bigger impact to the PS3 because of a. negative anti-PS3 press, b. the original Xbox was a bit of a flop). Again this gen is all about the 1st party titles, and Sony wins this battle hands down. As an aside I love how 360 fanboys say they hate games like FFXIII, until it’s coming to the 360 and then they pretend they love it! Personally the PS3-exclusive FF vs XIII holds more appeal for me.
So all in all a pretty irrelevant, inaccurate, and generally pointless article from a desperate 360 fanboy. Not even mentioning the fact that the PS3 is sold more in it’s life cycle than the 360 had at the same point – meaning the more negative points he thinks up, the more this reflects badly on the 360!!!

The PS3 has sold an average of 10.5 million units per year since it’s release, compared to 9.33 for the Xbox 360, so which console was failing again???
PS3 first – party games are vastly superior to those on the 360 and have been ever since the console first released. Gear’s Of War 2’s graphics are nothing to brag about anymore, it was surpassed by MGS4 never mind Killzone 2.
Also, GTA: IV was NEVER supposed to be a PS3 exclusive so i don’t know where on earth you got that from. If you have to resort to making things up that’s a sure sign that you were running out of ideas.
The 360 has probably the weakest game library out of the 3 next – gen consoles (That’s if you can even call the 360 next – gen with it’s minimal hardware power).
You want to talk about failure? Here are a few things you SHOULD have mentioned:
The Xbox 360 is CHEAPER than the Nintendo Wii but still gets outsold by it every month.
The Xbox 360 is the cheapest console in Japan but still holds single – digit market share over there and has not even been able to shift 1 million units in over THREE YERAS.
The Xbox 360’s weak game library will not be helped one bit by the lack of exclusive games penned in for a 2009 release.
Xbox live is an over – expensive joke compared to the PSN. 360 owners get exactly the same features the PS3 owners get (Minus the social applications like HOME.) only they get the added “Benefit” of being allowed to pay good money every month……LOL!
This article sounds like a desperate cry for attention from a very worried Microsoft fanboy. 10) XBox 360 have only one major difference between models: with HDMI or without and when HDMI models were out without HDMI models were discontinued. You can buy HDD, cables, etc. to Xbox 360, but you can’t buy missing WLAN or more important missing BC to PS3. Biggest problem with different PS3 models have been that 80 Gb model in US did support BC and same 80 Gb model in Europe didn’t support BC.
9) Again two different controllers with different features (rumble or not). And how many of you can honestly say that Dualshock3 is BEST controller what is in market for this generation?
7) PS2 wasn’t easy to program, but developing games for it cost 10 times less than developing games for HD consoles. When game developers are already drowning costs of HD game development, they really don’t want to have console with challenging programmability.
6) PS3 manufacturing cost are dropping. Now it’s only 2 to 3 times more expensive to manufacture than rival consoles. PS3 will not ever go below 200$. Probably Sony will not EVER get any profit with PS3 HW even with 299$ price tag. Original Xbox did cost “only” 200$ to make and it was way too much.
5) 2009 Sony is building really well their game library, I must say that, but still major problem is that if third party developers are developing game for PC, it’s MUCH cheaper and faster make Xbox 360 version of game than make PS3 version of it. Thats not good in long run specially when competitors have bigger install base.
4) Ports are equal or better when those are developed in PS3 platform. Unfortunately PS3 developing platform isn’t the best developing kit what is in market. Still if you are major multiplatform developer you need to use PS3 development kit, because it’s all hell try to convert PC/XBOx 360 code to PS3.
3) GeoW did come after 1 year. And Xbox 360 was first HD console in market and game developers didn’t have extra 1 year time to develop games for it like PS3 game developers did.
2) With user base and huge franchises what Sony had with PS1 and PS2 that 21 million sold PS3s is REALLY bad result. And like I already said before. It will really hard Sony to get their console under 300$ without drying mother company to death. There is major risk that when next generation comes, PS3 is still most expensive console in the market or at least only 100$ less expensive than those new MS and Nintendo consoles.
1) Last two console generations majority of games from Capcom, SE, etc. did come to Sony platform. Now Sony is getting least of games from many third party developers.

Here in Iraq, the most consoles are ppl like is The Playstation, I mean they still use it and no body got confused or being mad, they still use PS3 Even we got a serious problem with the internet, it’s not fast to just open the PSN.
we got a wirless service and you can pay a 50$ and you will got 10kb/s download and 2kb/s upload.
BUT The IRAQI PPL STILL PLAY & USE THE GREAT PLAY STATION Because it’s so hard to break and crash.
About The X-BOX, a few ppl like it because the low price for the console itself and the “GAMES”, Because they can make a lot of copy’s for the games, Because it’s a DVD not a Blue-ray.

I disagree with two things.
1.weak game ports, no longer are ports of 360 games worse on PS3, but they aren’t exactly better either. Dev’s are getting the hang of developing for PS3 and games like RE5 and SFIV look almost identical (i cant tell a difference)
2. Still no strong gaming library??? this tells me one thing and one thing only , and that is that you’re a 360fanboy…or just hate PS3 , cause PS3 has a great library of games. You’d have to be blind to not know that.

you mention games being inferior on the Ps3 multiple times and that we dont a “inferior” game library. In terms of sales that may be true, but in terms of quality you’re far from right. The Ps3 has more AAA titles than any other console on the market. They may be first party, but there are reasons for multi-plat games not being soo outstanding. The fact that a product is only suppose to have no more than a 3% failure rate when released to the public, means Microsoft was suppose to recall the product and didn’t (FACT!). THE ONLY FACT that can be used this generation is there is no excuse for creating a crap products just so you can realease before the competition. The face that some of you say you still prefer your X-box even though it RROD’ed 3 TIMES is pathetic. I love my PS3 have played both systems as my Brother got the x-box because it came out 1st. He only kept it after his 3 RROD’s because he got it moded and only pays $12 for any game he wants and then buys the ones he REALLY likes. I will not MOD a machine so I choose to buy quality. Some guy above said he’s hears of some blue whatever that he got within hours of getting his machine WHO CARES bring it back get a new one I would guarantee you you would not see that problem again. MY BIG POINT HERE right now I FEEL PS3 is the best because I don’t believe X-box is an option I don’t even feel it should be on the market it should have been boycotted with all its hardware problems because as consumers if a TV did this this much it would get terrible reviews and regardless of how great the features and quality of picture it would never survive as someone would find out how to create the same quality with better insides.
So for now until someone creates a product that is as durable as PS3 with Blueray as I enjoy it quite a bit watched the dark knight on both and it’s so much more satisfying at 92″ on blue ray. With beter games then both systems or the same (to be honest I have had always games I have loved playing on my PS3 that I have had since soon after release.

in my personal experience the 360 is a fun console to play with. i buyed this console because the RPGs and im having fun so FAR and A LOT.
Yes i know some Jrpgs could be more polished but lets face the facts. the few rpgs in Ps3 are not that good, and White night chronicles is the only “real” contender.

I think you used old information to form your conclusions. Your reasons while once true, have all but been eliminated. Owning both systems, I only have time to play the blockbuster titles which both systems now have. Currently my time is devoted to KillZone2, which I doubt would play on my 360 without simplifying the graphics.
If you are considering buying a PS3 don’t be fooled by crazed fanboys who will say anything to make the 360 seem superior. The PS3 is a fine machine, as is the 360. I have totally pleased with my PS3 purchase.

If by any chance 360-fans, PS3-fans & Wii-fans ‘consider’ themeselves hardcore gamers, and I mean the real deal, you’ll ALL have to admit to yourselves that all 3 consoles deliver on their own level. They’ve all got the same multi-platform game collections, apart from that minor 5% exclusivity margin, which in its own time becomes multiplatform as well. These trash-talks amongst yourselves don’t change the reality of each consoles advantages and disadvantages, some fixed and some stilll common. Of course the Xbox had issues with the Red Rings of Death, the PS3 had issues with a slow & late start, the Wii had issues with crashing firmware updates. X-box has had a good year head-start, following up on great game titles in winning recipes, the Wii showed off tons of user-physical gaming to impressive ideas, PS3’s have shown impressive technology with hacking-friendly a basis. Nobody orders you to purchase any single console, it’s totally a personal choice with no real difference in the long run for we all still share the same gaming experience. Real Gamers can see past that, the rest are still too close-minded and will keep subjecting themselves to useless trash-talk. I myself own all 3 and am not alone, and like every single one of them for their own small differences.

One thing… Xbox 1st and 2nd generation title developers have been using old engines (Source, Unreal, etc) and have not really done much in the way of developing new next-gen engines. Kudos for GG and Kojima, among others, for making an effort to build new next-gen engines that actually show off the power of the Cell processor. Shame to Gabe Newell for not updating the Source Engine to look next gen compared to my 2000 PC.

And no, the price of the mid-range, or Elite Xbox 360 is not better. You pay an extra $100-$200 for the console, but don’t have to pay $100 to upgrade the HDD to 60GB as you would with the $199 Arcade console.

SO, PS3 80GB console, with free online gaming, an included blu-ray player, included wireless networking, 80GB HDD, and included controller with rechargeable battery comes out to $399… Looks like you Xbox guys are either playing a cheap Xbox with 256MB storage, no wifi, and NO HD video player, or your getting totally screwed by purchasing everything seperate. $630 and up>$400.
The Xbox 360 HDD pricing is so laughbable. Essentially Xboxers pay $100/60GB of storage space…. While i can put 320GB-500GB in my PS3 for the same price.

I’ve worked on 2 dual Xbox360/PS3 games and let me just say, the PS3 is always just an afterthought (Port) because like they said, it IS extremely difficult to develop for and the time it takes to make a dedicated game is probably double of the 360, and for very little gain that I’ve ever seen?
Even doing ports was a hassle and lagged behind the 360 skew. Now Im not a programmer (I was on the art side) but privy to information on how hard it is to code.
I think by the time people figure out a cost effective method to develop on it the ‘next-next gen’ will be here, I wonder if Sony will still be around?

I got to say i had many lol´s reading the coments, i dont want to enter the fanboy fight anyway, but more like “add” something to the article.
It is indeed true that the ps3 processor is a pain in the ass to program for, i am a computer science student and had played with the plataform allready.
*it would consume a lot of space and time to generate a very detailed explanation, so i will “cut the nerdy chat”.
XBOX 360 -> has a 3 core “usual” powerpc processor, with earch one can run “2 programs” (like the pentium hyper threading), the processes can “jump” to the less satured processor automaticaly, and they can be programmed in a almost identical way the most known software plataform of the world, windows. (yep, i´m not kidding, is very easy and cheap indeed to port a pc game to xbox, and a little more hard to port it to pc)
PS3 -> Has the cell, with i will broke in parts to explain.
The basic: Has 1 stantard powerpc processor that can run “2 programs”, this one “just works”, but just this one alone is not very powerfull, the software is programmed to the “sony plataform” (ps3 games dont run exactly on linux, or at all) that makes it a more exotic plataform.
The real deal of the problem: the main powerpc processor of cell act also as an “server” that feed data to the 6 spe´s to run apps, the spe´s itself cant “just exange” load between theyselves, because only the processor may echange data betwhen they. Spe´s cant “just” access the main memory, frequent access to main memory means a potential bottleneck in performance, so they mainly need to use their “particular” 256k memory (this is a very unsual concept of processor to run games, but for scientific apps its ok). Spe´s has a lot of internal registers (128 general purpose ones to be exact) so most loops in software (most really) arent optimized to alocate and use his “true power” (with is indeed BRUTAL), and most likely just suck at the most of the non optimized apps.

Alright, the fact is that we all enjoy playing games on consoles that meet our personal preferences. I am not a fanboy and I go on with my life besides playing games. I have a PS3 and my friends have 360’s and Wiis. I admit that the PS3 has flaws that are harmful towards its position in the marketing industry. True, there are some 360 and Wii games that I would prefer to play over PS3 games and vice versa.
I’ve played Halo 3 and GOW2 at my friend’s house and those 360 exclusives are amazing! I’ve also played both Resistances and plan on playing Killzone 2.
The point is that these companies make games for our entertainment, not for us to kill each other over with. In my opinion, all of these consoles are fun to play and they’ve greatly contributed to the evolution of gaming.

This article is a load of rubbish. Clearly the work of an Xbox fanboy. To begin with, number 10: what a load of rubbish in terms of confusion in the market. There are currently two Skus available one with an 80gb hard drive the other with a 160gb hard drive, simple as that. If you want more space get the bigger model, that’s all. Also what are you on about 7 skus, i may have missed something that you may have to correct me on, but i believe that there has been a 20gb, 40gb, 60gb, 80gb and 160gb model. If my maths is correct then i count 5 not 7.
Number 9: the controller was because Sony got sued over their vibration being allowed within their controllers, which is now sorted and many games are compatible with them now so what’s wrong with that.
Number 8: i wouldn’t say Sony were arrogant, and saying that they had the inferior console on the market is stupid, since that it is clearly the best console out of all of them in terms of hardware.
Number 7: Saying that they should have learned from the mistakes of the ps2 in terms of developing on, sorry but i do believe that the console sold the most units, so it is only sensible to continue that in their third home console.
Number 6: Yes there manufacturing costs are expensive which results in the price being high, but at least we are getting good hardware unlike other consoles (Xbox 360) who have received countless amounts of rrod and disc scratching issues.
Number 5: I do remember reading that PS3 is selling more games then any of the other consoles, and that it made more money for EA and Konami last year on the PS3. As for the attach rate crap, the Xbox 360 has been out 18 months longer then the PS3, so there are more games on it, meaning more of a choice for consumers. So of course they have a higher attach rate, but how many of those games are actually half decent?
Number 4: Yes the ps3 has had some weak ports, but that’s because the architecture of the 360 is completely different to the PS3. Also the fact that the consoles have their own strengths and weaknesses, so obviously porting a game from one console to another is going to render it inferior due to it not being optimized for that console. Any way, i do believe some games are now being made on PS3 first and ported over to the Xbox 360 which is better for both platforms.
Number 3: It is never too late to bring out killer apps to a console, unless it is dead and buried. Sony have brought out many great games, and yes it is true that up until a few moths ago, there were few AAA tittles, but look at the games we already have now, and games that are coming out this year which i believe has got a better line up then Microsoft’s or Nintendo console. There are also a few hidden games that haven’t been announced yet, such as the upcoming game form Team ICO or the two exclusives that Rockstar are making for PS3.
Number 2: Yes the PS3 is the most expensive console, but you have to add the hidden costs to the 360. For the 360 you have to pay for a wifi adapter, online play, HD DVD player (joke which has been discontinued), battery powered controllers, that u have to buy an adapter for to be able to charge the batteries. Not only that, but you have a really loud machine to play games on, what’s with that. When i watch a film or play a game, i wasn’t to be able to listen to what they say!
Number 1: It is true that in the early days of the PS3 Sony lost a lot of exclusives. But GTA hasn’t been exclusive for years, it went multiplat in the PS2’s era and i don’t believe Assassins Creed was ever exclusive to the PS3. Resident evil has been multiplat for years also, with gamecube iterations to name a few. Anyway, Microsoft have lost a ton of exclusives too. Bioshock, Lost Planet too name a few, and maybe even mass effect. It’s also quite rich to say the Sony have lost many to PC when nearly all 360 exclusives aren’t really exclusive at all, they come out on PC as well. Sony have a great line up for this year throughout to the start of next year, which is more then we can say about 360, that has odst which isn’t even a new Halo game, it’s just an extension too the third one. Apart from that, they haven’t got much, and yes new announcements will come at E3 but they don’t have much of a chance of holding up to Sony’s line up.
As for this article, a 5 year old could have made a better job. It is not based on any facts, and is just another way to get at Sony when they haven’t done anything wrong. If anything, i would get at Microsoft for all their problems with Xbox 360, and it would be interesting to see how many more than 10 things we could come up with that is wrong for that platform.

I think #10 is arguable because most of the PS3 SKU’s aren’t even available anymore. You’d have a point if they were all still on the market, but Sony has killed off more models than Microsoft and Nintendo have made COMBINED.
#9 is a stupid complaint. Yes, it took a while for Sony to swallow their pride and throw cash at the rumble people to get a decent controller. The banana controller was never a real product. I know, Sony said, Sony said, Sony said… but it never saw the light of day (thank God!)

Metacritic lists 300 PS3 titles. Of those 202 of them are also available on the Xbox 360 for much less money than on the PS3. That’s 67.33% of all PS3 games.
Looking at the exclusives there are only 3 “must have” games (scoring 90% or better) – LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
and Killzone 2.
Flip it around and look at the Xbox 360… 578 games, only 202 also on the PS3 (34.95% of the library.)

If you can’t afford the PS3…then I feel sorry for you at this point…cut some damn grass or get a paper if you can’t afford it….alof of the points mentioned in this article have been addressed….the PS3 library is much better now, the whole “developing is hard” is jsut mainly inept developers…Guerrilla Games has shut that philosophy down, so no more excuses..and other have gotten the hang of it like Ubisosft (some divisions) Ea (some divisions), Capcom, Namco, Infitry Ward, Treyarch..etc. Only devs that don’t know what they doing or lack confidence (like Valve) only say things like the PS3 is waste of time or hard to develop for…go back to programming school! And that leads to weak ports (know your hardware beforehand and you won’t run in this bullshit!) Or better yet, start making the PS3 the lead platform like some devs have done and you will get better results and less time to waste and less road blocks….MS is blowing their money on getting Sony exclusives, but yet…they still are on the PS3 and Sony still has great exclusives that MS don’t get…so who is the loser in this? Square Enix has fallen off anyway as there latest efforts on the 360 have not been that stellar, goes to show you, you don’t turn your back on the company that got you into the spotlight….what goes around comes around.

It’s not clear to me why people write such nonsense. The PS3, failing? With 20 million+ consoles sold?? With more than half a dozen huge, eagerly awaited exclusives in 2009???
Most of the things said in the article are nonsense. The PS3 is harder to develop for. So what? High school is harder than elementary school, did you stay in elementary school? PS3 exclusives have stunning graphics that have yet to be matched on the Xbox 360; I think it’s worth it.
Expensive? Between the Xbox 360 and the PS3, the Xbox is the more expensive console in terms of what you get for each dollar. What Microsoft really did was figure out price points at which people will buy inferior machines.
Still no game library?? The author’s brain is still stuck in 2007. At this point in time the PS3 is definitely the more attractive console in terms of its upcoming game lineup. There are maybe 3-4 blockbuster games Xbox 360 has that PS3 is lacking. What’s amazing is that in spite of 1 year lead, PS3 has almost caught up with Xbox 360.
I’d rather give my money to a company that invests in new technologies and innovative games, than to a company that invests in business strategies and spends the money preventing PS3 owners from playing games.

have to say that i largely agree with what you say. one thing though is the cost, ps3 is overall cheaper than the 360 because you get free online and you dont need stupid non-standard extras (eg, controller charge cable).
also, the ps3 is one of the most available devices to play blu-ray movies on, so effectively that means you don’t need to buy a separate device for that too. and ports… orange box is a bad example, valve games are always far superior on the pc to any console. and ff13 will be in significantly reduced quality on the 360 due to limited space on the disk for textures etc, and it will likely not give the user the option of multiple languages (i hate listening to the stupid english voices when its a japanese game, id rather have subtitles).
Also, a ps3 wont break meaning you need to pay for another one *cough* 360 *cough*.
all that said; i have to say the 360 is still more worth owning, but its not a better system. microsoft have just forcibly marketed it above the ps3 by gaining rights to exclusive titles

i can understand developers going to the 360 in this current economic crisis for eg square enix, they have produced mainly for 360 and IMO have produced crap except star ocean, but if they are worrying about money why are they selling out to an american company and not supporting thier own economy. if they developed for ps3 straight away they would of helped out sony to sell millions of consoles coz everyone known that if you release a JRPG in Japan its gonna sell by the bucket loads, and help out thier economy. IMO sony are failing coz of their lack of fighting for exclusives, GTA 4 would of sold millions of consoles in the west alone, and lack of support to 3rd party developers, coz the 1st party games are great but lacking. to all sony fanboys i ain’t an xbot, in fact i love playing ps3 just as equally as the 360. just face the truth both consoles have major problems in different areas eg ps3= sales, production costs, xbox=hard ware

aps3fanboy, if you think about the fact that the 360 released a full year before the PS3, this shows that the 360 was ahead of the game with the hardware and software. So it wasn’t a ‘cheap-shot’, put it this way: 360 BEAT PS3. That’s all that means; plain and simple. And even so with the 360 ahead in the game market… Even if they pour money at the developers, it’s not stopping them from producing a 360 version of the game. It’s obvious that developers feel no loyalty to the PS3 and I’m sure they wouldn’t for the 360 as well if Sony did the same. But they didn’t; you can be as dedicated to a console system here but the company that’s behind them and the decisions that that company makes reflects the console. Therefore if Sony wishes to pour money on Blu-Ray let them. Also if they want to piggyback on the main image titles let them. Those will be exhausted not to long if they keep that up. But look where that has taken them. And so far they haven’t responded to the consequences that have augmented they’re situation. So keep posting your fanboy derived comments. As this will definitely change the PS3’s visage.

to phil: To say Ps3 is cheaper than 360 is BS. every SKU in both consoles is adapted based in gamers needs. for example im ok with not having rechargable batteries for my 360 controllers. or not having WiFi because im connected to a ethernet with UTP cable. or i dont need cables for HDMI because i have a standard television. SOOOO say that xbox 360 is more expensive than Ps3 is absurd.
So far Ps3 & Blueray have demostrated that BR format is needed for gaming expand. but is just getting in shape. most games dont need BR disc for now. in my personal case. i dont need blueray to watch movies since i dont have HDTV and i dont mind to watch movies in other format than my standard DVD.
Ff13 reduced quality is questionable. maybe the game will be 4 dics or 5 and i dont care swamp dics. (for now) and english voices in JRPGS dont mix. (but L.O and TLR did great jobs)
Broken 360? im sorry dude but i have seen broken ps3 a lot in here. BR drives fucked up and AC Power burned. so every system have their shit on it.

The only reason is that it is too expensive. I wouldve never thought of buying a ps3 before i got it as a gift. I had low expectations for the console since i had only heard good things about the 360. I was wowed that it was actually multimedia station mainly for gaming. Sleek, smooth visuals and interface continue to impress me making this powerhouse the best console out there. Don’t hate because of console sales, look at the quality. And this year, we’re expecting a great lineup of exclusives that started with Killzone 2. The PSN has logged 3 million more users than XBL and the Spring fever downloadables are amazing. Stop fricking posting articles about the PS3’s failure.

If someone can’t figure out how to buy a game console, they don’t have any business owning one. Irrelevant point.

The DS3 has rumble and motion sensing. The motion sensing might not be up to Wii standards, but its more than the xbox controller has. Irrelevant point.

For what the PS3 has, it really is a fair price. Sure its ‘more’, but you get more than a 360 or Wii. Irrelevant point.

I own all three consoles and the PS3 is a blu-ray player for me now, that’s is it. The most entertaining thing about this generation has been watching the PS3 defenders still defending the console. Killzone 2 the “killer app” is a polished turd. It doesn’t matter how nice it looks when you feel like the controller is stuck in a puddle of mud. Sony are the Gamecube of this generation.

I was a BIG Sony fan back in the PS2 glory days; but have seen the light regarding Sony. Let’s be honest, the PS3 should have DEMOLISHED the 360. It’s quite amusing to see these Sony fanboys attempting to make a case for the PS3 when it’s simply obvious the system has fallen flat on its face. From sales, game library, devolopers’ critiques, etc. the evidence is overwhelming that Sony dropped the ball and allowed the greatest monopoly in gaming history to slip right through their hands within a few years.
And I own both systems and I can vouch that virtually every multiplat I’ve played on my PS3 was slightly poorer graphically (either framerate or resolution).

Retailers report an Xbox 360 faliure rate of around 30%. That is some pathetic quality control, but hey, Microsoft is not known for their quality. As long as the initial price of the console is low enough, all of the suckers will flood in and purchase it, then wait until later to pay outrageous prices for things already included with the PS3 for less.
I have to laugh at this cost argument most of all.
Eventually, 80-90% of you Xbox 360 owners will purchase Live for more than one year, Rechargeable batteries for your controllers, and possibly a HDD upgrade depending on the amount of storage space in your console’s HDD/Mem Card.
Everyone knows that Microsoft makes a killing on their proprietary junk, but do any of you realize how much of it you buy after getting that “awesome deal” on an Arcade or Core console?
I really am not even interested in the PS3 vs. Xbox 360 war going on in here, but I really hate when people can’t do math.

By the time you get done buying everything you WOULD get if you had just bought a PS3 you will be spending an extra $230 plus for every little external device that Microsoft sells for $100/item. You are getting raped people, do the math.

This is what is wrong with America. The majority of us choose instant gratification over long term planning every-time. Most of these Xbox folks are seriously bragging about the fact they buy a bare bones console for $199 immediatly, only to be forced to pay out the ass to upgrade it later with things that should have been included in the original price point.
If anyone in here has paid $170 for a 120GB HDD that cannot be used for any other purpose other than Xbox gaming, you should check your asshole for rape-age. IF anyone in here has paid $100 dollars for the Xbox wireless network adapter (something included in the Wii), you should make sure the cash in your wallet has not been replaced by semen. YOU ARE GETTING PLAYED BY Microsoft, I wouldn’t brag about that if I were you.
Even if you say you don’t want a HD video player (HDDVD or Blu-Ray) it will eventually be the industry standard (Blu-Ray), as much as some of you may not care about online gaming, it is the future of gaming and you almost have to conform to get the most out of your games.
Pull the looooong MS dick out of your pooper and smell the tip, this is the smell you should relate to the argument on the cost effectiveness of buying an Xbox 360 over a PS3…

Both consoles sold 10.8 Million units in 2008, so why would anyone be dumb enough to argue that the Xbox is winning?
Xbox had a head start of 1 year so the overall market saturation of Xboxs should be higher, but that does not necessarily correlate with your argument that the Xbox is “winning” the next gen war. Xbox isn’t even next gen unless you pay out the ass for the Next Gen extras (rechargeables, High HDD storage capacity, wireless networking, and HD video player.)
The guy that wrote this hasn’t even defended his weak arguments yet. Here is a weak argument that resembles the author’s level of ignorance.

I have owned every single console released until this generation, including a Neo-Geo (which makes the cost of the PS3 seem like a bag of popcorn in relativity).
This generation of consoles created a rift in gaming that I do not see being closed any time soon. For instance, as a hardcore gamer, I cannot find a depth of titles for the Wii that interest me. Ergo, I will not buy one. I have a 360 now, and yes, it has issues.
I will not own a PS3 for multiple reasons. For one, they repeatedly came off as the most arrogant gaming company I have ever seen this gen. Even more so than Atari was, if you are old enough to recall the comments they used to make. If you were around for the last crash of the the console world, you may agree that there are some dangerous parallels here between Sony and Atari. When Atari went last time, we had to wait years to get the Nintendo; which saved the industry.
For two, they rushed it out without a clear concept of direction. Much the same as the first Xbox, it tried to throw around the concept of brutal power without realizing that the same method failed Microsoft in the previous generation.
Third and finally, there are simply no games on or coming out for the PS3 that are “must have” games for me. This may be different for other people, of course, but for me Sony has lost the chokehold they had on exclusivity.
Sony did drop the ball this gen, having decided to rest on their laurels. Microsoft also dropped the ball by not eating the cost of the 360 to make it on par with the Wii. Additionally their R&D sucked because the heat issue is beyond obvious to anyone with hardware board level knowledge. Will Sony catch up to Microsoft? Possibly. The problem is, as soon as that happens, Microsoft will jump to the next gen. Sony allowed itself to be placed in the position that Microsoft used to crush multiple other companies. Instead of following the time honored Japanese tradition of smaller, cheaper, then faster and better; they tried to get in a pissing contest with Microsoft and allowed them to release first. Ask Netscape how that worked for them.
What Sony needs to do to turn this around? Well, as far as the Wii goes, that is a lost cause. Sony will never catch up this gen. They can score a moral victory by dropping the price enough to match the 360 and steal Microsoft’s portion of the market back. I doubt they will go that far. I suspect that this gen is lost for them and the most they can hope for is to try to get out of it while saving face.
In any case, pick the system you like and that has games you want to play. In the end, it doesn’t matter what someone Else’s opinion is. They certainly aren’t playing your games for you.

agree with a lot of this except for #5 & 3. not that its completely false, but thats fairly innacurate. its true that the multi plat games aren’t always up to par, but its because the ps3 isn’t capable of doing better, its because there aren’t more sales of these games. but to say that its inferior is totally wrong…sony has a better 1st party lineup that microsoft, thats for sure. also ms really doesn’t have 2 many exclusives since MOST of their highly popular games are also on the pc. even bungie isn’t in house anymore…
and its not too late…unless microsoft is happy with second place for the second generation in a row and decides to bail out early again. with a year headstart, xbox360 is about (not exact) 8-10 million more. In 2008, despite having a more “expensive” console, it took a price drop for ms to BARELY beat the ps3 in sales, i think by a couple of 100k.smart on ms part, but they are being outsold in eu, au and asian regions. with the games coming out now…like gt5, god of war 3, those are familiar names that will sell games. Not to mention that as of no, ffxiii versus is still exclusive to ps3. ya attachment rates aren’t that much right now, but hardware/software sales will pick up.

Actually if you compare it to initial sales, not current starting from when they both launched, then yes, the ps3 sold better.
What I find funny here is that sure the Sony guys are defensive, but isnt that to be expected? Its an article that is about the failings of the ps3. If it were an article the same way about the 360, you would have the 360 fanboys all over it.
It all comes down to fanboyism. The article maybe have some slight valid points, but most of his points are a stretch to make a point and either based on old information or irrelevant information.
The points made can in many ways relate just as easily to the 360. Does that make the 360 a supposed failure too? I bet people wouldnt say that.
To actually believe the PS3 is failing is absurd. It may be in 3rd in sales, but that in noway makes it a failure. Not in the US it’s not.
The PS3 has been competing head to head with the Xbox 360 since November, 2006. That’s 27 months. Out of those 27 months the 360 has out-sold the PS3 22 times.
The 5 months where the PS3 was on top were: January and February 2008, and May, June and July 2008.
Every other month where the two machines have been on sale together the PS3 has lost out to the 360.
From November 2006 to January 2009 the 360 has sold 11,273,500 machines. This does NOT count sales prior to the PS3 going on sale.
In the same time frame the PS3 has sold 6,992,900 machines. 62% of what the 360 has sold.

Are you actually serious? Seems you have not played the PS3 or used the PSN.
1. Modders dont exist on the PS3. You cannot mod the ps3. Some games may have glitches, which would make people glitchers if they exploit them but if caught people do get banned.
If you think for a second that the 360 doesnt have glitchers who get away with bs, then you must be out in la la land.
2. Most PS3 games have good servers that are free. There are a couple games that have had some issues, but those are generally 3rd party and usually lower quality games anyway.
To also think that because you pay for Live that the 360 never has online issues is also absurd and narrowmided as there have been problems.

For one MOH is a terrible game. Not something you should be judging anything by. Also I think you are misusing the term “modder”. You more than likely mean “glitcher”. And that really has more to do with bad programming by the designers and should be patched.
Again I have to say that judging the whole psn on MOH, which is a game nobody plays is hilarious.

The yellow light of death rarely happens. It usually happens when a PS3 is played way to often and under horrible conditions. This can happen to almost any electronic good. Its like allowing dust of accumulate in a high powered PC till its fans jam up and causes the motherboard or graphics card to overheat.
The failure rate of a PS3 is rather low. People say it is between 1 – 3 percent.
The Xbox 360 has a larger failure rate with its RROD. Retailer’s estimate it at around 30%.

Every single console has its triumphs and failures. If the PS3 had its SixAxis and Home, the 360 had the disc swapping and RROD issues – while the Wii had the Virtual Console and casual games annoyances. No console is perfect, not even the handhelds. Nintendo, despite having such great games and sales since launch with the DS, saw shares drop when they announced the DSi; just about every one can comment on how lame the DSi really is. PSP had some great games, but it was plagued by some of the worst ad campaigns ever created for a console.
The Wii outsells the 360 and PS3 because it’s tapped into the casual base – it may sound like a cliche statement but it’s true.
Finally, the 360 and PS3 are very close numbers-wise. With a difference amounting to thousands of units, saying the PS3 is less successful than the 360 is the same as saying the 360 is more successful than the PS3: Pointless. Until a single competitor closes shop on their console at this point, neither the PS3 nor the 360 are losing, despite the Wii selling more.
And Hyde, most of your reasons are a year or more old. Check your facts and publish some of your sources. Regarding that point about the lesser number of games purchases for the PS3 than 360, let me ask this: If 20 million people buy 4 games for the PS3 and 10 million buy 8 for the 360, then who’s sold the total number of consoles? Not saying this is actually the case; just that this particular point, how many games people purchase as a means for determining which console is better, is wholly irrelevant to your argument.

Some of the paranoid ramblings mainly (but not completely) from PS3 owners here is just hilarious, one post states that the disk tray is a slightly different shape is a different SKU, ROTFLMAO!!!
Lets just get some facts out of the way here: the PS3 sku has been stable for a while now but the initial crippled 20gig version, the full monty 60 version and the half way house for the final SKU is completely confusing, BC coming and going, USB ports disappearing, wireless appearing, card reader disappearing, different levels of BC, and all the rest is a complete different proposition to the 360, very simple – the main machine has on the outside stayed exactly the same throughout the lifetime with the exception of the addition of HDMI which was added to all SKUs, the only other difference is storage size, same as the PS3.
I have both systems, both have positives and negatives.
For the 360:
Positives: console price, game library especially exclusives, controller, achievements, range of Live arcade titles and online multiplayer.
Negatives: RROD, noise (in early models, my latest model is far quieter than my PS3), price of some of the add-ons such as the wireless adapter and HDs.
For the PS3 the positive include much better range of playable video formats, quietness (at least the 40 gig version was most of the time, the 60 I have now is far too noisy) Blu-ray, ability to copy videos to the HD, ability to easily and cheaply change the HDs, built in wireless
Negatives: poor exclusives, apart from launch titles what is there? LBP (OK but nothing special), MGS4 (very poor), Resistance 2 (unplayed) & Killzone 2 (unplayed but terribly uninspiring demo), terribly unconformable controller (try the 360 controller and *nobody* would honestly prefer the PS3 controller), poor Internet browser, and one of the main reasons I bought it, to install Linux, is completely crippled, the PS store is an amateurish joke and the speed of the patches and OS updates is *crippling* slow (30+ minutes for a 20meg file on a 3 meg ADSL line is common), mandatory installs, slow BR accesses times.
IMHO the PS3 is a wonderful combined media & bluray player and Internet set top box (even if streaming of BBC content does not work), I have a 320gig HD in mine full of content ready to play which I use frequently.
The 360 has the edge IMHO as a gaming console, offline the games are almost identical AFAICS most of the time but the online is brilliant and it has the huge advantage of achievements which just tips the balance in favor of the 360 especially with lower price.

I dont think that your opinion is held overall as MGS4 has sold exceptionally well. LBP is praised all over. Killzone is amazing. Sure you may not hold that opinion, but I would think the majority does. Thats like me saying that Halo is really a worthwhile piece of crap because I cant stand it and its just the same crap over and over…yet it sells millions. Thats my opinion but not the majority unfortunately. But like I said, the overall point is taken.

10) The sku thing
The point is not about what’s currently available but more about all the features remove from newer models. To me removing BC was a major blow and I saw many ppl quite frustrated when their PS2 games didn’t work while at my place it did.

As far as I’m concerned only things that I know have changed are backwards playability, less USBs, SCAD, bigger HDDs, Memory card slots and Wi-fi. Apart from that still the same thing.

As far as I know, the boomerang one never made it into production so there’s only ever been two, Six-axis and DS3. The DS3 is just a vibrating Six-axis i.e. better!

That is a fact, but only because it’s more of a challenge to port to the PS3, than to the Xbox360. That’s why developers are now starting to use the PS3 as it’s lead platform and porting to the Xbox360

First the version differences are now so minute that its hardly noticable.After 2008 the only worth buying game that was noticably inferior on ps3 was fallout 3 and even that was addressed

I guess it all depends on how you define AA+? For me an A rated game is the same as in school – 90%+. Let’s assume for the sake of argument that AA+ = 95% and higher.
According to Metacritic the PS3 has exactly TWO AA+ titles. Grand Theft Auto IV and Little Big Planet.

I have been playing games since the Atari 2600, not much of a start but i still have the damn thing. I also have owned almost every major console since and currently play XBOX, XBOX 360, Wii, Dreamcast, and PS2. I would be happy to buy a PS3 if there were any games for it that I couldn’t get on a console I’ve already payed for. The lack of good titles is killing the machine. I always refuse to buy a console until I can name at least 8 games I want for it, just to justify the initial expense of the console. Sadly I can only name 4 or 5 for the PS3, and after playing a few at friends houses I’m not sure I want them anymore. The bottom line is that $50 a year for online play is shit when you an MMO player and games are GOD in the gaming world. I currently own 26 games for my 360 and 17 for my Wii. You can praise Sony all you want, but they fucked up and they know it. I don’t count the PS3 out entirely, but Sony will have to do some serious work to win me over this time out.

the xbox360 is outdated. it came in early. it shall leave early. ps3 hardware has always been superior. ill give to the xbox that it has superior software.( microsoft are software developers in the first place). but software can change easily and ps3 is catching up interms of user satisfaction from its interface and psn. the less games on the ps3 argument is stupid. Xbots should really do some reasearch. after all 2009 has already been claimed the ps3 year. with many more AAA exclusives coming out on the ps3 compared to the xbox360. killzone 2 was just the beginning. ps3 owners have something to look forwards to interms of graphical quality of future games. gameplay depends all on the developers.

Look people. Everyone here (except a few people) are fanboys in one sense or another. I for one, used to swear by Xbox 360. But after my second console died (RROD), I decided to switch to the PS3 (in-store replacement FTW). From the 2 months I’ve owned my PS3 I can say that this is by far the worst article I’ve ever read in my life. 8 out of the 10 points are correct, but are not really a reason why it’s “failing”.
Let’s do some math. I bought an Xbox 360 2 and a half years ago. In that time I’ve had 2 consoles die. So -
399.99 Pro Console bought in 2006.
130.00 replacement plans (2 consoles)
150.00 xbox live subscriptions (3 years)
Adding that up, in the 2 and a half years I had my 360 I spent a total of $779.00. That is not even including the 5 years I paid for xbox live when I had my original Xbox.
Now, since I was able to exchange my broken xbox for my PS3 I havn’t spent any money on it besides my games, which I’ve purchased using in store credit from all my useless xbox shit. But in reality I would have spent a total of $399.99 for the console. No replacement plan needed, my ORIGINAL LAUNCH PS2 still works to this day with no problems. No online fee’s. Let’s take a look at things the PS3 does the 360 doesn’t.
* Integrated Bluetooth. I use my cell phone headset and do not have to purchase an xbox wireless headset. I also use my PS3 to charge the headset.
* I can go on the internet from my couch.
* Blue Ray playback. I didn’t have to purchase an add-on HD DVD player that is better suited for a paper weight these days.
* I have the BEST FPS game money can buy you. KillZone 2 is better than any exclusive game the 360 has. And don’t even bring up Halo. Halo 3 was the worst excuse for a game.
* Free online. Thank you for not making me pay $50 a year to play my favorite games online. And for those of you who will say the PlayStation Network sucks, think again. I play KZ2 online all the time and have not had one issue. No lag outs, no Connectiong Interrupted COD4 bullshit.
* SixAxis is actually quite fun to use. There are a few good games for download that are SixAxis only which are extremely fun to play.
* Wi-Fi out of the box. No need to spend 100 bucks to use it wirelessly.
* HDD with every console. Why the hell would you even offer the “arcade” edition of the 360? What a useless pile of shit for MS to try to sell more consoles. So you spent 200 bucks on an Xbox that you can’t save anything to. Real good purchase.
And you can’t even bitch about Ported games. If something is developed on a 360 and ported to the PS3 or vice versa, it’s going to play different and with most games being developed on the 360 the PS3 doesn’t get the attention it needs. Just look at KZ2 and try to show me one thing wrong with that game. Impossible.
Your exclusive titles are completely false. Devil May Cry 4 was the only exclusive title that left the system.
In the end I am not a Sony or Xbox fanboy. I’m just a hardcore gamer who got fucked by my 360 twice. In my personal opinion I am really happy with PS3 more so than I ever was with my 360.

If your console did infact RROD you would have goten a replacement for free and not have to pay a dime to get it. KZ2 is overrated, your personal opinion that its the best but there are far better FPS out there like COD4…where you can actualy play with your friends online.
Online on 360 is known to be better overall.
50$ a year is nothing, its sad that most fanboys cry over having to pay that a year when they have probably all at one point or another played an MMO where you pay around 12$ a month!! yet 50 a year is terrible?… ok. Bluray is nice for films, not for games. lot longer load times, slower frame rate. and having the mandatory install for games, even if we have 2 or 3 discs for a game its alot quicker than installing the game. and if your too fat and lazy to change the disc then you have no use in the world except sucking money from the government.

I paid £300 for my Ps3 and I consider it one of the best bargains I ever purchased.
Joyfully my PC is now free to be used solely as a creative tool (3d modelling with maya and 2d art with a wacom cintiq), my crippled xbox (currently on its 3rd RROD) can just go in the bin; and in my spare time I can use my lovely Ps3 to watch glorious blu-ray movies (for less than any other blu-ray player), play great games (for free online!) and cure cancer all in one fell swoop.
Boy do I ever feel ripped off *snickers* all the way to the bank.

I own the 360 and the PS3 and to my surprise the PS3 caught me off-gaurd as the better system. I am ALWAYS had an issue with Live and I pay for it! Yet I never had that issue playing Warhawk with 32 players. M$ has you guys by the balls and making you all think nothing else is out there. Yes Halo is great! I would know I have played it for years, but test out the waters people! YOu don’t have to pay 50 bucks to play online, because that service should be free!

Since these are GAME consoles and since the majority gamers
do not purchase so many games, why not state the top 5 or 10 games from each side and compare them? And I do not know why people take pride in halo, but as for me, I got really bored of it. I must have sensed some boring reps in its multiplayer or something. And ps3 multiplayer contains much more gamers at a time. Also, people are forgetting that ps3 is only getting started while the 360 has reached its max. In the future I think that the 360 WILL not be stealing any more exclusives, due to the fact that ps3 first party games will be longer and technologically more advanced.

well….i bought today a ps3 slim with 120 gb HDD…and i got the RROD at my xbox 360 for two times….i always played on xbox live….and i think that’s way much better than Play station network…also…all ps3 games are settled down for 720i tv’s….instead all 360 games are fully supported 1080p!!!!! i think that for now the 30 is still the best console out there…even if it gives some problems and MS charges you every time it can..

Wow you PS3 fanboys really need to get a life! honestly who cares if this guy has an opinion! its not the opinion that you should be objectifying but rather the content of which that opinion states. This guy simply had something to say and he said it. Quite frankly, what he is saying remains true today as Halo 3 and previous halo titles have dominated sales and that the upcoming release of ODST will be no different, as it is one of the best selling games on the market today! Apart from uncharted 2 i don’t see too many interesting titles on Sony’s Releases for this year or the next. I am personally a player of both consoles but as far as PS3 goes they have a long way to go before they grab my attention again with one of their consoles.

Hi, I’m not a fan boy of any video game console. I think there is one that best fits every individual. Anyway, I’m really interested in buying a new console (I still have the old xbox at home so I’m behind). Reading this article I hoped to get some more insight on what to buy…xbox 360 or ps3. Nintendo wii is out of the question just because personally there aren’t as many nintendo games that will fit my liking as the ps3 and xbox 360. With all this back and forth battle of ps3 sucks and xbox 360 sucks….it kinda doesn’t help me get anywhere. Honestly, I’m not a big fan of video games offline. I want a video game system solely for online action. Now, I liked games similar to halo 3 (I play it online at a friend’s house) so if anyone from the ps3 side can come up with a list of games online capable similar to that type I would appreciate it. COD4 games don’t count because I like shooters where you don’t die so fast (at least in halo if you don’t get sniped in the head or rocketed, you have a change to run away and throw gernades like mad)….so counterstrike type shooters are a big no no. I may just get the ps3 if I get more insight on how well the ps3 online stuff is handled as well as the online games available that match my liking.

I now own all three consoles an Xbox 360 Elite, a Wii and latest of all the new slim PS3. Why did I buy a PS3? My Xbox has Red Ringed twice now and had to be sent in for service. Subsequently, I gathered up all my Xbox titles and sold them on eBay. Once my Xbox comes back from it’s second trip for warranty repairs it too will go up for sale.

Alright wow, this is so fucking hilarious and pointless. Xbox 360 and PS3 are both great game consoles with advantages on both sides, and should not be judged merely on MS or Sony. The fighting is rather pointless. Some want PS3, some want XB, thats all there is to it. Some have both. Foul language and pointless points will never change that.

Hey, hey, hey now. Weird that this debate has gone on for almost a year. See, I’ve owned a 3Shitxty for 3 years. Got the three rings of death 3 times amongst a slough of other technical failures. The 360 normally DOES have more realistic, higher rated graphics. [http://www.gamespot.com/features/6191251/index.html] But, along with the 360’s casual-gamer-friendly UI, and wide variety of great games, it has TONS of tech problems, and any and all repairs after warranty are upwards of $120. Visually, the PS3 is only a big behind the 360. Gameplay is smooth and clean, despite long loading times. Xbox Live vs. PSN = Xbox sucks. More users, yes, but always cuts in and out. If you have a half-way decent wireless network set up at your house, the Playstation is far superior online. Games are smoother, cleaner, better. Shorter loading times, and it’s free.
Let’s just say you get what you pay for.
But in actuality, every console has its strengths and weaknesses, and it depends on your personal taste, and what’s important to you, so let’s quit the bashing, eh? We all know Microsoft is a group of money-grubbing pricks who care less about customers than EA. Sony is just… Sony. Remember the PS3? Sony will always be a better company.

I personally don’t see any problem with any of these. The new PS3 is about the same price as a 360, and there are alot of enjoyable games. I’m not being a fanboy though. I would agree to play any console, as long as the games are fun. i don’t see why people should define a console by it’s hardware. If you do, you’re a techy geek and should be spoon fed oil. I’m sure that this comment will get lost amongst all the other flamers that decide to post random stuff about why ‘their’ console is better. It’s funny how they always say ‘their console’ and ‘your console’. It’s not as if you own the damn company you’re ’supporting’. IMO there’s too many patriotic idiots who actually think that ‘their console’ is superior. Why can’t people just accept the fact that there are different consoles besides their own? Did anyone complain about the original xbox? No. Did anyone complain about the PS2? No. just SHUT THE F……….. UP!
