Publishers want PS3 price cut

March 16th, 2009 Posted in Business by James

Despite losing a hefty sum on every PlayStation 3 console sold, Sony still has the most expensive console on the market, and as a result is feeling the pressure from publishers to lower the price of the console.

Mike Hickey, an analyst from Janco Partners says that unless Sony can cut the price of the PS3, publishers will relocate their resources to the Wii. Which is the reason Hickey believes that Sony will cut the price of the PS3 by $50 to $100 next month.

According to Bloomberg, Activision/Blizzard, the biggest publisher in the world, reported that 32 percent of their revenue in 2008 came from the Wii, while only 19 percent came from the PS3.
