Star Fox creator not interested in developing for Wii

April 4th, 2009 Posted in Action, Shooter, Wii

The original creator of the Star Fox series and founder of Q-Games, Dylan Cuthbert, said in an interview with G4 that he is not interested in making a Star Fox game for the Wii. Cuthbert was responsible for both the original Star Fox and Star Fox Command.

In response to why there isn’t a Star Fox for the Wii, he said “The problem with that is that it’d be a big project, like 100 people on the staff. It’s just not something we really want to do. I’m sure someone will make it. Maybe they’ll go back to Namco.”

An actual flying Star Fox game is what has been missing from a Nintendo console for far too long. When asked about why Fox has stepped out of the Arwing, Cuthbert attributed it all to Shigeru Miyamoto. “I think that’s all Miyamoto.  Whenever I speak to Miyamoto about Star Fox, he says it’s not meant to be just a flying, sci-fi shooting game. It’s meant to be anything we want to think up. But the core fans don’t want that, but Miyamoto doesn’t really care about that. He wants to make what he wants to make, so he just goes ahead and gets it done.”

In case you have tears in your eyes, don’t cry just yet; the creator hasn’t ruled the Wii out completely. He did say that he could consider developing a title taking advantage of the Motion Plus.

Its probably best not to make this game for the Wii. The Star Fox games are special and it would be very challenging to make it for a console like the Wii. If they are going to release anything for it, it should just be a remake of the original one.

The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 has officially left the Nintendo Wii in the dust with a disc-tray full of dirt. With their inability to produce HIT games, the Wii has suffered in their sales-rate and popularity. For their status to move from “closed for business” to “sold out”, the Wii must come out with the epic series, Star Fox. The development and release of Star Fox would be the jump cables for the batteryless Wii. The game would give the energy needed for the Wii to continue on in the race to glory against the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3

The 360 is the only guilt free system here. Despite Microsoft not originally being a video game company, they’re the ones that have sold out the least here. PS3 is all about power, Wii is all about gimmick, 360 has a perfect balance. I may not be partial to Microsoft in the gaming world, but the honest truth is that they’re the ones staying most true to themselves.

As for Star Fox, again, neither Q Games nor Cuthbert created him. They were involved in the past, like Namco after them, but certainly not the chief developers here. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out Cuthbert. Star Fox did well without your involvement in Assault and he can do just as well as before.
