FUEL’s environment is biggest ever

As you can see above, Asobo Studio’s has recently secured themelves a spot in the Guiness World Book of Records for the “largest playable videogame environment”.

The game Asobo will recieve the award for is FUEL, a racing title set in a world annihilated by global warming. Players will be able to take to the enormous open world on both two and four wheeled vehicles. How enormous you say?

Well, Destructoid says that the side of FUEL’s environment is 5,560 square miles, roughly the size of Trinidad & Tobago. So Rockstart, it looks like you will really have to go over the top for Grand Theft Auto V.

Just played this for a couple of hours tonight – traded in OLD XBOX games and ended up paying $3 for FUEL. And it’s a good thing, too. The huge open world would be fantastic if it didn’t mean endless hours of pointless driving through sterile environments – nothing going on, no one online to play with (yet), and events, view points and liveries spaced so far apart as to be ridiculous. Sure, it LOOKS nice, but what is there to DO? The events leave you feeling a bit empty, there’s nothing exciting or even particularly challenging about this game. With fewer events and fewer vehicles than the much smaller world of Burnout Paradise, and totally lacking the fun and the engaging smash’n'crash play style, I think I’ll go back to my stunt runs and leave FUEL on the shelf for to play some other day. Only 6 more days ’til Big Surf Island ;)

I cannot agree with James. Some games are meant to be explored. A lot of players enjoy games only for the free-roaming aspect. I’ll get this game this week-end and I can’t wait to drive these endless killometers of environment…

I liked Burnout Paradise for the exploration it allowed me, so I’ll love Fuel.
