Gamer takes life after being told not to play games

May 22nd, 2009 Posted in Culture, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

I don’t know about you guys but I remember having my parents turn off my SNES when I refused to stop playing Zelda: A Link to the Past. Sure I was pissed, but I never did anything as close to this 12 year old from Bangkok, Thailand.

As the story goes, the 12 year old was banned from playing video games because his parents suspected he was addicted. Obviously discourged the boy proceeded to go to school the following day, went to the 6th floor of the building and jumped thus ending his life.

What’s even worse Thailand’s Ministry of Health blamed it almost entirely on his parents saying that they should have handled the child’s addiction much differently.

bravo, i think we should all give a standing ovation to the thai government for saying exactly what should have been said about the kids in columbine, and all other nutcases associated with video games, of course the government and media over here in North America cant grasp the fact that a parent should be responsible for raising the child, rather then sticking their kid in front of a tv/console, without even taking into consideration what kind of content that child is entertaining themselves with, even tho there are so many kids playing games much too mature for their age ranges and then get angry at xbox, or sony (not so much nintendo but there a few M rated games on the system), BLAME THE PARENTS NOT THE GAMES
