EVE Online: Dominion coming this Winter

August 31st, 2009 2 Comments   Posted in Adventure, MMO, PC, RPG

The eleventh free expansion for CCP Games’ MMORPG EVE Online has been announced today. Titled Dominion, the expansion is currently set for a Winter release this year.

EVE Online: Dominion will focus on primarily endgame content – alliance warfare. A complete overhaul of sovereignty mechanics will occur, and new epic arcs for pirate factions will also be introduced.

The game has been around since 2003, so it’s very surprising that it’s still going strong against giants like World of Warcraft and Lineage II. Blizzard only offers paid expansions for their game, so CCP Games’ approach is a very unique one.

August 31st, 2009 1 Comment   Posted in Business

The Walt Disney Company has announced today that they are going to acquire the comic book company Marvel Entertainment. The deal will happen through a stock and cash transaction. The transaction value is at $50 a share, or $4 billion in total.

“Disney is the perfect home for Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses,” said Ike Perlmutter, Marvel’s Chief Executive Officer. “This is an unparalleled opportunity for Marvel to build upon its vibrant brand and character properties by accessing Disney’s tremendous global organization and infrastructure around the world.”

Disney will now have control of over 5,000 comic book characters. On a business perspective, it can be seen as a good move, but die-hard comic book fans might not be so pleased.

Damn, Nintendo censors a swear word in Metroid Prime Trilogy

August 31st, 2009 2 Comments   Posted in FPS, Offbeat, Wii

Nintendo has actually gone ahead and censored the dialog of Admiral Dane in the new Metroid Prime Trilogy. In the original Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, the Admiral says “Damn!”, while in Trilogy, he says a whole-hearted “No!”.

It’s a very minor change, and I’m not the least bit affected by it, but it’s interesting to see what is censor-worthy in Nintendo of America’s eyes.

Jagex releases RuneScape numbers

August 31st, 2009 1 Comment   Posted in MMO, Online, PC, RPG

I remember when I was younger I was all about RuneScape, I even went so far as to subscribe to the game and play the monthly fee, I was hooked. Unforuntunately, as the year’s passed so did my loyalty to the game until one day I just wouldn’t play it any further.

However, millions of people do not share my same views, logging onto the game each and every day. The game is so popular, in fact, that Jagex has recently went on record to say that over 105 million people have signed up since day 1.

Sure, they also have said that the actually has 10 million active subscribers but being a browser based game with little to no publicity, this is an amazing feat.
