Borderlands Zombie Island of Dr. Ned review
Borderlands surprised everyone with its visuals, non-stop action and tons of guns, and if you enjoyed the game (or still enjoying it), the DLC “The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned” is definitely not going to disappoint you. It’s jam packed with more mindless action and is available now for $10.
The Halloween themed 1GB DLC –a bit late, we know, Halloween’s over — centers around Dr. Ned and his island of Zombies (as the title of the DLC perfectly indicates), whom he accidentally unleashed on the town and island. The story is quite well told and has more to offer than just a bunch of new levels, it’s quite comical as well, and probably has some of the best dialogue and set ups in the entire game, not to mention hilarious one-liners.
The DLC includes a hefty amount of levels and enough gameplay to last you a handful of hours, sadly though, you’ll have to spend some time covering a lot of area since there’s only one main fast travel station to the island. The quests and puzzles are fairly easy and the enemies will give you a challenge, but not too much. There’s a bunch of new enemies to be fought, but for the most part, they’re brainless zombies and monsters very similar to the original Borderlands. A seasoned Borderlands player will be able to complete it fairly easy. While there’s only one fast travel station on the island, it’s party offset by the fact that you can fast travel to the island from anywhere in Pandora, whether you unlocked all the stations or not. The place of the island is very well made, and features artwork and level design not seen in the original Borderlands. Safe to say, it’s very beautiful and a welcomed change.
In order to access the levels of the DLC, you need a minimum level 10 character, which is no big deal, but unfortunately, if you’ve capped your character on Level 50 in Borderlands, you can’t increase your level in the DLC, which is kind of a shame, and quite expected, as DLCs usually offer level extension for 5 to 10 levels.
Borderlands fans will gladly enjoy the extra five or so hours playing the DLC, but it still has the quirks and bugs (mostly AI related) that the original game had. It’s no deal breaker, and for $10 bucks, fans of the game should definitely pick it up. If you weren’t into Borderlands however, the DLC is just more of the same, good or bad. But mostly good.
The Good:
More of the same (fun)
Great value
The Bad:
Still has the same minor issues as the original.
Can’t level further than 50 (as in regular game)
Overall score: 8/10
