Heavy Iron Studios faces massive layoffs

December 21st, 2009 Posted in Analyst, Business, Industry by Mark Briggs

According to Kotaku, Heavy Iron Studios, developers behind Wall-E, UP and a few other movie based games, is rumored to be shedding upwards of 50% of its employees.

The Los Angeles based studio was formerly owned by THQ, before going independent. It’s reported that half of the studio’s 120 employees will be let go this week, which is especially thought considering it’s Christmas.

The studio was formed in 1999 and has developed a total of 10 games. The studio was a wholly-owned subsidiary of THQ, until the publisher spun it off in May 2009 in a cost-cutting move.

It is unknown what title(s) the developer currently is working on, as they haven’t announced anything new in over a year.
