Those who had doubts that the iPhone/iPod touch would ever take off as a viable gaming platform can now lay their doubts to rest. Game Developer Research has recently said that Apple’s devices are now the more popular among game developers than the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP.

Number wise, 19% of handheld game developers write for the iPhone and iPod touch which is apparantly more than double the amount of DS and PSP developers. Additionally, every major handheld game developer has made games for the platform in the past 3 quarters.

Of course we don’t see the PSP or DS going anywhere anytime soon it’s pretty amazing to see what amazing strides the platform has made since its launch.
