Borderlands soundtrack coming Dec. 8
If you’ve played Borderlands, and you really should, you’ve listened to the sweet tunes from the game, and you’ll soon have a chance to throw them on your iPod as well. Gearbox announced that the soundtrack will be released on iTunes on December 8, and includes composers such as Jesper Kyd, Sascha Dikiciyan, Cris Velasco and Raison Varner.
However, it won’t include the hit song “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked“, which has been featured in the game and its promo material. Bummer.

DJ Hero review
In the midst of all the Modern Warfare 2 madness and onslaught of news, we’d like to bring you something a bit more lighthearted: a review of DJ Hero for Wii. As a sidekick to Activision’s Guitar Hero, DJ Hero focuses on DJs and their world, and contains artists like Black Eyed Peas, 50 Cent, Justice, Marvin Gaye, Beck, Beastie Boys and N.E.R.D., with over 100 songs and over 90 mixes by real DJs.
DJ Hero comes with a DJ mixing board controller, and the gameplay process is very similar to that of other “Hero” games from Activision, you punch the correct keys as best as possible, scoring the best score you can. While listening to the songs, of course. There’s a huge assortment of songs, which span almost every genre, meaning you’ll probably find something you like in there. The songs are mixed by well known DJs, and you won’t find them anywhere else — they’re exclusive to DJ Hero. While you can’t create your own DJ, you can play as some fairly decent ones, and if you’re good, you can unlock superstar DJs like Daft Punk (complete with their outfits). Modern Warfare 2 boycott works. Yeah Right.

The above screenshot shows a group of Steam members who joined the group “Boycott Modern Warfare 2 — We want dedicated servers”. As you can see, it’s not really working, as most of them are playing… Modern Warfare 2.
EA to cut jobs at Maxis and Pandemic
The recent announcement of job cuts at EA was accompanied by little more information on where the cuts would be made, as EA operates a lot of studios worldwide. Now a rumor suggests that the cuts will target studios Maxis and Pandemic, who worked on Mercenaries and The Saboteur.
The rumor also suggests, quite stunningly, that the entire team behind Command & Conquer 4 will get sacked after the game is complete. How’s that for “motivation”?

Assassin’s Creed novel coming this month

It seems that all games are getting books deals these days, from Gears of War, to Mass Effect, to Oblivion, to, well, everyone, really. That’s including Assassin’s Creed, which will get its own novel, titled Assassin’s Creed: Renaissance, written by Oliver Bowden and published by Penguin Books. The novel will be released later this month. You can check out the book on Amazon, although there isn’t much information there, nor is it available for pre-order.
Miami police arrests Modern Warfare 2 pirate
It seems that Activision can’t get enough PR for the release of Modern Warfare 2, as the game is now in the spotlight after 18 year old Christian Del Amo was arrested by Miami Police for trying to sell pirated versions of the game.
This comes after Activision had hired an online investigation firm to look into suspicious posts on Craigslist advertising Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 bundles for sale. With the age of high-speed internet, where anyone can download the pirated version, why would you even try and sell the pirated version on a burned disc? That kind of “business” seems so 1999.

Game Boy inducted into toy Hall of Fame
It’s always an honor when a great athlete gets inducted in a Hall of Fame — earlier this year for instance, Micheal Jordan was inducted into the NBA hall of fame, and now, more importantly to us gamers, Nintendo’s original Game Boy has been inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame, specifically, the Strong National Museum of Play’s Toy Hall of Fame.
The original 8-bit Game Boy was released in 1989, and its subsequent variations, have sold over 120 million units world wide since then, with the best game being Tetris, selling a whopping 33 million copies.
Congratulations, Nintendo!
Unreal 3 Development Kit launches

Epic Games has launched a free edition of their massively popular Unreal Engine 3, called Unreal Development Kit. The kit includes access to the Unreal Engine 3, the Unreal Editor, which comes with a whole suite of development tools, and the ability to distribute games on their own, for free, with no additional software required.
Obviously, it’s only intended for games that are free, similarly to mods, since the “real” Unreal Engine 3 costs upwards of $900,000 for a commercial license.
You can find the Unreal Development Kit at www.udk.com, and where you can already download games build with the new kit.

Warren Spector tried to buy Deus Ex rights

Noted game designer Warren Spector, who created Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Invisible War, revealed in an interview with Variety that he tried to buy the rights to the game from the publisher, but was unsuccessful. Specter said,
“There were and still are ‘Deus Ex’ stories I would like to tell. That story is not done for me. For the sci-fi game, I sort of filed the serial numbers off. ‘Deus Ex’ was very much a game of the millennium.”
Yep, a lot of people would argue that Deus Ex was the game of the millennium, especially if you’re into cyberpunk. Spector is also the creator of the Wing Commander and the Thief series and is currently working on Epic Mickey for Disney.
