Uncharted Heading To Film
Video game movies are usually a big swing-and-a-miss, often because they’re either based on games with sub-par plotlines (Doom) or games where they throw out the well-crafted plot in favor of their own take on the story (Hitman, Resident Evil, etc. etc.) tossing in unnecessary elements and generally doing a ham-fisted job of things. While gamers generally groan at every announcement of another adaptation, most of us are crossing our fingers behind our backs and praying that for once they’ll get it right.
Most recently picked up for potential ruination is Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Following the adventures of rough and tumble adventurer Nathan Drake on his quest for fame and fortune (of course) the game’s existing plot has plenty to offer for cinematic entertainment; interesting characters, an unfolding adventure with plot twists and betrayals, a romantic subplot and plenty of action. The film has been picked up by Columbia with Kyle Ward writing the script. Ward is already writing scripts for Kane & Lynch and Hitman 2 films so if he gets this right he could be considered the avatar of the video game gods on earth, struggling mightily against the Hollywood infidels to ensure that these stories are told in all their majesty.
Who would you like to see play Nathan Drake? The obvious choice being voiced by many is Nathan Filion of Firefly/Serenity cult fame since he’s already demonstrated his ability to play a snarky-talking, pistol toting badass, but I’m sure there are plenty of other options out there. I
Castlevania movie terminated?

According to rumors circulating the internet, Paul W.S. Anderson’s Castlevania movie adaptation has been canceled.
This movie was apparantly loosley based on the popular videogame series that made its North American debut on the NES back in 1987. You know, the one with Dracula you played when you were younger.
These rumors were confirmed by Bloody-disgusting who doesn’t say if the Castlevania movie will go back into production or go the ways of the Halo movie.
John Woo Making Hard Boiled Sequel

The potential for video games to surpass film as a medium for storytelling is still a long ways from being assured, but it seems that the two are beginning to come together in many ways. John Woo’s iconic action film Hard Boiled was given a sequel years later called Stranglehold. The game’s success has prompted more action from the man himself.
Currently two writers are penning an adaptation of John Woo Presents: Stranglehold. John Woo’s production company Lion Rock Entertainment are on board for the sequel that reunites fans with inspector Tequila, played by the eternally badass Chow Yun-fat. The two writers on board are both American and with the general success of shooters in the American it could be that the sequel is going to be in English.
Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li Trailer Released

Sometimes games should remain left to be played only. Lately we’ve seen quite a few of them transformed into movies. And they will not all be box office hits. It’s now time for this Street Fighter movie. The Legend of Chun Li is directed by Andrej Bartkowiak, the same guy that transformed Doom into a movie in 2005. Kristen Kreuk plays Chun Li and the release date is February 27, 2009 in the USA while Japan will follow a day later. What do you think? Is it worth going to the cinema to watch it?
