On Tuesday, we got the prices for the Modern Warfare 2 Hardened Edition and it turns out that we’re not so happy about the impact these special editions are having on our wallets. And who can forget about the Prestige Edition, complete with night vision goggles, which costs $150.

Fortunately, CheapyD from CheapAssGamer brings us some relief with a promotion over at Amazon, offering $10 store credit for reserving any of the versions.

So, if you’re really planning on investing on those goggles, Amazon is probably the best way to get the game. If you’re looking for even more of a bargain, then you’re going to want to combine it with a 50% off trading promotion, along with Amazon Prime.

Now other retailers are beginning to get into the action, but someone eventually decided there must be a better way for gamers to swap an old title for a new one. If you’re lucky enough to have some gaming friends it’s possible to swap titles once you’re finished, but many of us don’t have that option.

In July 2006 a site was launched called Goozex which allowed gamers to send in titles towards ‘purchasing’ other games. It’s set up on a points system based on supply and demand; the more popular your game is the more points you’ll get for it. Users pay $1 per trade and their own shipping costs, but in spite of this Goozex estimates they save their users around $20 per trade, adding up to a total of $3.7 million in savings for their clients since the site’s launch.

The service does actually seem to be offering better values than conventional trade-ins, where games trade-in values quickly decline. Unfortunately none of the GameStop locations I called were able to give me prices over the phone, but Amazon was easier to find. They value Fable II at $16.50, Resident Evil 5 at $19.50 for either console version, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition at $6.50 and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon for the Wii at $15. The highest point value on Goozex is 1000, which can essentially be calculated at six cents per point. This means that Fable II and Resident Evil 5 are both valued at $60, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition and MK:A are both valued at $27.

Unfortunately for those of us whose only venues are our living rooms with audiences consisting solely of friends, family and pets we have to store our instruments somewhere else. While most game controllers are easily stored in a drawer or basket next to a console or game library the Guitar Hero and Rock Band instruments are much bulkier.

Right now Amazon has a sizeable discount on a combination ottoman and storage area. It’s called the AK Rockbox and it can hold two guitars, a drum kit and a microphone, everything you need to virtually tour the world. Interestingly it’s not only designed to store your equipment, it’s also got a built-in mechanism to easily raise and lower the drum kit for access while you play. Right now it’s discounted from its original price of $299.99 to $182.32.

Remember the deals we showed you right after Christmas? Well it looks like some more game deals are coming up. Go to Amazon on Monday, January 12, 2009 and grab some cheaper video games. They will be featured in the Amazon.com Gold Box and each deal will be revealed one at a time. Which means we don’t actually know what titles Amazon has left in stock and we have no idea how much you will actually save.

Make sure you remember how this whole Gold Box Deal of the Day thing is going to work:

The first deal will be the Gold Box Deal of the Day. Its special discounted price will be available all day (or until we run out) only on Monday, January 12, 2009.

A series of Lightning Deals will then kick off at 6:00 AM PST. Each deal will be featured for a limited-time throughout the day until they are sold-out or until the next Lightning Deal begins. Learn more about Gold Box Deals in our Help section.

Be sure to come back and shop the Gold Box on the Gamers Gold Box day.

Let us know what you snatched from Amazon on Monday!

"We’ll be able to expand our distribution network to include Amazon’s amazing distribution channel," wrote the company CEO in a blog post. He added that the move will bring a “huge new group of customers into play” and that they are committing to “provide the best distribution platform anywhere.”
