BattleForge Open Beta Launched

With the release of the game due on March 24, EA Phenomic has launched an open beta of BattleForge, its unique trading card strategy game, on the game’s website.

The beta allows anyone with an Internet connection to sample the title’s full collection of cards and maps. Those who participate in the beta will receive a bonus upgraded Firedancer unit when the game launches.

BattleForge mixes RTS with the social and community aspects of an MMO. It offers online multiplayer and cooperative play for up to 12 players and will also sport single-player scenarios. There will also be guild support and an auction hall, among other things.

EA sends word that the open beta for BattleForge, its upcoming massively multiplayer real-time strategy game, will begin on November 7. Interested players can register on the title’s official website to get in on the fun.

Being developed by Phenomic, the game combines RTS gameplay with the collectability of trading cards in an online environment emphasizing cooperative gameplay. It has players use virtual trading cards to build their army and kill enemies.

The game is due out early next year on PC.

AMD Announces DX10.1 Games

Processor and GPU maker AMD announced today a list of future games that all feature support for DirectX 10.1, an updated version of DX10 found in Windows Vista. The games are BattleForge, Stormrise and Cloud 9.

The latest from Creative Assembly, Stormrise has been said to be “built from the ground up specifically for high-def consoles”. It will reportedly feature controls that will “revolutionize the way RTS games are played.”

BattleForge is a RTS-CCG hybrid in the works at EA Phenomic, with Cloud 9 in the works at NHN.

AMD noted that only its ATI Radeon HD 3000 and HD 4800 cards currently support the DirectX 10.1 technology, which, surprisingly, is yet to be adopted by NVIDIA.
