New Starcraft II beta opt-in emerges

Want to increase your chances of getting access to the Starcraft II beta? Here’s how — Blizzard has recently announced that there will be an all new chance for Starcraft II enthusiasts to get access to the upcoming beta.

First and foremost, you must have a Battle.net account. After you have secured one of those you are going to want to head here, the beta profiles page. Once there, you will find an option to download a utility that will determine your system specs and upload them to Battle.net. Finally, check off Starcraft II and click Update Preferences.

While this won’t gaurantee your access to the Starcraft II beta, it doesn’t hurt to try, right?

Blizzard Launches New Battle.net Website

Blizzard today opened the redesigned website for Battle.net, its matchmaking service for its stable of games. The new site combines several of its game services into an unified portal.

Starting today, players can merge their World of Warcraft accounts with a Battle.net account to create a single consolidated handle. This account also connects with the Blizzard Store.

Users of the new Battle.net will be automatically entered for future Blizzard beta key drawings.

Blizzard’s Epic Banhammer Dishes Out Damage to 350,000 Cheaters

And Blizzard once again whips out the epic ban hammer, effectively blocking ~~StarCrack~~ StarCraft and Diablo 2 access to over 350,000 cheaters.

An official post on the Battle.net website explains the details of the bans. Here’s a bit:

The Diablo II CD keys associated with the closed Diablo II accounts are now restricted from playing on Battle.net for approximately 30 days. Repeat offenders will have their accounts closed and their CD keys permanently banned from Battle.net.

As a reminder, we reserve the right to close the accounts and ban the CD keys of players who are caught cheating on Battle.net. Cheating ruins the game experience for legitimate players, and we will not tolerate it.

The aging online service will be upgraded before StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 are launched sometime next year. Blizzard is also working on an unannounced next-gen MMORPG.

Battle.net Being Overhauled

Blizzard’s online matchmaking portal and community for its games – Battle.net – is going to be overhauled ahead of the release of upcoming games Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2.

DIII.net has compiled a list of new features compiled from statements from Blizzard higher-ups. Some of the new expected features are now industry standards, including achievements, clan support, in-game chat and voice cheat, enhanced cheat detection, avatars and eSports support, among others.

The new Battle.net is expected to debut with next year’s release of StarCraft 2.
