If the above image is anything to go by the guys over at Steam seem to have uploaded said image clearly displaying Bethesda’s Morrowind and Oblivion before they were announced to hit the service.

The ad was displayed on the homepage for a brief period of time before it was taken down. However, you can still view the ad to verify its legitimacy here, which is clearly located on the Steam’s servers.

I think its safe to say that both of these games will in fact be hitting the service at some point in the very near future. I mean, Bethesda’s Fallout 3 is available from Steam, why not some of their back catalog too?

This time it’s Point Lookout which we heard briefly about last month when Bethesda was pondering releasing Fallout 3 DLC across multiple platforms. Point Lookout looks to be centered mostly in what some would call the boondocks as hillbillies and broken down cabins are plentiful.

As stated at the end of the trailer, Fallout 3’s Point Lookout will be released on June 23rd.

All three of the existing DLC packs are going to be available for the PS3 this year. Operation Anchorage releases in June with The Pitt and Broken Steel following after with a four to six week interval between each.

The two new content packs will be released for PS3 eventually, but they’re going to be released for the Xbox 360 first. Point Lookout will bring the player to a new swampy area with new quests based around the real Point Lookout State Park of Maryland. Although the Fallout universe is set in an America where events eventually diverged from our reality, some of the events will draw on the collective past, including the Civil War.

Mothership Zeta continues with the running reference in the Fallout universe to the existence of aliens. In previous games you could get your hands on a powerful albeit short ranged alien blaster if you stumbled upon their crashed ship. In Fallout 3 the same thing happens, but in the DLC pack you’ll find yourself abducted by the alien ship responding to the distress call you can pick up on your Pip Boy.

As with the previous packs there’ll be new quests, characters, items to collect and even some new perks, but at this early stage no details are being discussed about what they might be, though they did say that we can expect a ton of new art for Mothership Zeta. Lookout Point is set for a June release and Mothership Zeta for July.

Developer/publisher Bethesda plans to reveal news of a “really big Wii game” any time soon, although it is uncertain whether Bethesda will develop or just publish the game.

Bethesda Europe managing director Sean Brennan said in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz;

“We’ve got a couple of other things in the pipeline, and it’s a format we’re really looking at with the right approach. We’re not going to establish a new range and call if ‘My Girly Game Range’ or whatever these other companies are doing, it’s so me-too and boring.”

Since Bethesda has been getting into the publishing game, and the fact they’re quite busy with Fallout 3, it is unlikely that the Wii game would be developer internally.

Fallout 3 developer/publisher Bethesda says that the recent Broken Steel DLC might not be the last for the post-apocalyptic RPG. Bethesda’s Pete Hines said in an interview with OXM,

“Whether [Broken Steel is] the absolute last one remains to be seen. Because it’s been hugely successful. Operation Anchorage vastly exceeded our expectation. It was like ‘holy shit, we did how many?’ and the Pitt was really successful, after a bit of a false start.”

Of course, if Fallout 3 DLC is so successful — everything indicates that it is — there’s no reason as to why Bethesda wouldn’t release more of it. After all, it’s a lot easier to create some DLC content instead of a whole new game.

Considering the success of The Elder Scrolls series, it only make sense that some novels set in the universe be released, right? Bethesda sure thinks so, recently announcing that they have teamed with Del Rey Books to produce a series of novels baring The Elder Scrolls branding.

The first novel in the series entitled The Infernal, written by bestselling author Greg Keyes, will take place after The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion:

Floating high above the land is a strange and mysterious city that is casting a horrifying shadow – wherever it falls, people die and rise again as undead. It is up to an unlikely duo – a seventeen-year-old girl named Annaig and the Emperor’s young son, Prince Attrebus – to rescue the kingdom from doom.

Broken Steel will add a whole slew of new content as well as raising the level cap to 30. Generally they ignore IPs with interesting character and well-fleshed out plot lines. That might be in part because it’s usually the big film studios who seek out these projects with little actual involvement from their creators.

Bethesda however is taking a more active interest in the possible direction other Fallout media could go. They’ve filed patents for both a Fallout film and television show. With the huge volume of material already created for the series there are plenty of avenues to go down. The main storylines and side quests of all three games give dozens of possible storylines; defeating mutants, questing for parts to fix a dying vault, etc.

The only problem of course would be the high cost of doing a Fallout TV show, with the budget for special effects, props, buildings, etc. Unfortunately a film probably wouldn’t do the well crafted Fallout universe justice, but I doubt we’d see more than a season of two of the TV show.

They’re considering legal action to get the rights to a Fallout MMO back from Interplay, though Bethesda doesn’t have much experience themselves in creating an MMO. They’ve just announced the existence of Fallout: New Vegas.

As is usual for an initial announcement they’re short on details, but fans of the series who weren’t as happy about Bethesda’s version will be a little more interested when they hear that Obsidian Entertainment (a studio founded by members of Interplay’s Black Isle Studios) are doing the actual developing for the game. When asked about what engine it’d be using, the spokesperson said that you could ‘make educated guesses’ so we’ll probably be seeing another first person perspective game. It’s set for the same consoles, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 and set to release in 2010.

Fans awaited the arrival of the long-over due Fallout 3 with excitement, only to weep when it was announced that Interplay was ceasing work on the game. A tech demo hit the internet which only rubbed salt in the wounds of many but Bethesda swooped in and picked up the rights. While fans are still hotly debating whether or not their take on the universe was well executed or not, others are waiting with the same contained anxiety for the planned Fallout MMO.

When Bethesda purchased the Fallout IP from Interplay they left behind the MMO rights as part of an agreement that hinged upon Interplay beginning ‘full scale’ work on the game by April fourth as well as having secured funding for the development of the title. Bethesda is considering legal action as they claim that Interplay has fulfilled neither of these conditions.

Interplay is denying all of these claims and their work on a game called ‘Project V13′ hints that there might be more going on than Bethesda is aware of. Unfortunately for Interplay if Bethesda goes ahead with legal action and wins, they’ll have lost all rights to the license and that could lead to problems with the financing as MMOs based on a brand new IP have a low rate of success due to the colossal grip WoW has on the market.

The report says that the file which was posted was corrupted in some way and Bethesda is investigating, with a promise of a fixed file as soon as the issue can be sorted out.

Thus far there’s no specific details regarding what caused the problem or the time frame in which we can expect to have a new file for download, but I’m sure Bethesda will have the information posted on their site as soon as possible.
