Despite not being in their final stages, all three characters we’ve seen feature a high level of detail and intricacy. So, one could only except them to be even more highly detailed when they are ready for the market.

There’s no word on when these will actually go at sale or at what price but GamerVision suggests that they will be shown during Comic-Con this week in San Diego.

Take-Two Interactive software announced today that BioShock 2 will be pushed back to the fiscal year of 2010, as apposed to a November release this year.

“We concluded that moving the release of BioShock 2 into fiscal year 2010 was the right decision for the product,” stated Chairman Strauss Zelnick. “We believe the result will be a more compelling consumer experience and a better performing product in the marketplace.”

“The decision to shift a release date is never an easy one, especially with a product as highly anticipated as BioShock 2,” added Chief Executive Officer Ben Feder. “We felt that it was essential to invest the additional time to ensure that this title will deliver what its fans expect and deserve.”

More news about the delay will be updated as we get it.

Unfortunately for men everywhere the film industry is cash driven, which is why we see so many terrible romantic comedies (they’re cheap and rake in a lot of ticket sales) instead of the action-packed extravaganzas we like so much. The more disconnected from the real world a film is, the higher the costs are. More atmosphere means more sets, more costumes, more everything. Coming off his huge success with the Pirates of the Caribbean films Gore Verbinski set his sights on the BioShock film.

Universal Pictures has been behind the project so far, but when the budget rose to over $160 million they halted production. Verbinski has said that he’s determined to get the film made. Universal hasn’t said they’re backing out completely but they are pushing the director to take filming outside of the USA to take advantage of tax credits and Verbinski said London is one of the locations they’re considering. With the incredible amount of special effects and scenery needed to truly portray the eerie underwater city of rapture it’s hard to guess how much Universal expected to be able to make the film for, especially given the epic quality of the Pirates trilogy.

It’s been the “next-gen” of gaming systems for some time now–we’ve had the Xbox 360 out on the market for better than three years now, and the Wii and Playstation 3 have been out for a good number of years too. The Wii is still hard to find in some places, even–though word on Sony’s bounty of cash for available PS3s has not been seen to surface. So where, I’m forced to wonder, are the truly next-gen games? Games like Halo Wars and Bioshock and, once again, Fallout 3.

They’re sure not coming from Sega, I’ll tell you that much.

I got my hands on a copy of Golden Axe: Beast Rider today, and it really makes me sad that the great next-gen revolution has crapped out to THIS.

You take control of early video game hottie Tyris Flare, who’s just come in from fighting a handful of Death Adder’s minions to arrive just in time for the Axirian Priestesses’ ritual summoning of the Dragon Titan. For reasons that aren’t terribly clear, Death Adder (the main bad guy of the whole Golden Axe series) is pants-wettingly terrified of the Dragon Titan, thus he sends out a legion of troops to capture it and bring it much, much closer to him. This Dragon Titan that he’s so scared of is apparently sufficiently powerful to terrify him, but either not powerful enough or not smart enough to break a length of iron chain attached to him by a harpoon. Apparently he’s ALSO forgot that he can breathe, at will, this stuff that’s called FIRE, which in sufficient quantities will turn iron chain into a viscous liquid. I guess the Dragon Titan missed that session of Physics 101 that described the melting point of iron.

But if he’d have done that, then we couldn’t send Amazon hottie Tyrus Flare off into a rampage of blood across several lands in an attempt to finally jam something pointy and metallic into Death Adder once and for all until the next installment.

To this end, Tyrus will have various magic spells and control of several different beasts (hence the title) and will have to kill a whole bunch of enemies that look vaguely similar. Apparently Death Adder has mastered cloning technology.

I’m making a lot of fun of Golden Axe: Beast Rider, and for good reason–it’s got it coming, frankly. This is the kind of game we were playing back on our Super Nintendos, for crying out loud. Having just played the original three Golden Axe installments thanks to one of Sega’s massive collection games, I’ve discovered that Golden Axe: Beast Rider is just a gigantic pile of more of the same, only prettied up and rendered in ever-popular 3-D instead of put on a flat screen. It’s dull, it’s repetitive, and frankly, if it weren’t for the pretty graphics it would be a total waste of time that I’d expect to have been released for PS2 or earlier.

Yes, it’s an action game–and as an action game it’s fair; there’s more than enough things that need killing, but after a while, your sword arm gets tired. Not to mention your button thumb. Golden Axe: Beast Rider is a long, drawn-out and monotonous experience that leaves me cold.

Positing an underwater city by the name of Rapture, a place where artists and scientists and industrialists can pursue their craft without fear of reprisal or societal backlash, in full accord with the principles of Ayn Rand’s objectivism movement.

You’ll have to go through Rapture and discover that maybe, just maybe, a little societal reprisal might not have been such a bad thing, in retrospect. Especially when you consider just what they were up to down there in Rapture—they’ve developed weapons out of spare parts. They’ve also been doing genetic research down there, leading to a line of personal genetic abilities called Plasmids. And they sell them in VENDING MACHINES. Anyone with a few bucks can basically buy a syringe full of genetically-altering whatnot, shoot themselves up, and be a pyrokinetic. You literally have the ability to turn your forearms into hives for a race of killer bees, which you can telepathically order to attack targets on sight.

Anyone else think that maybe life in Rapture is just a little too goofy? I don’t think even Ron Paul would’ve approved of being able to buy explosive ammunition from a vending machine shaped like a clown. (The joke is, I’m not kidding. It’s called the Circus of Values.) And frankly, I really don’t like the thought of trying to raise kids in an environment where they can, literally on demand, go down to the corner vending machine and shoot themselves full of lightning juice. I mean, what’s next? “Ward, the Beaver’s all jacked up on plasmids again. He and Lumpy have been throwing lightning bolts around since two this afternoon and there’s a hive full of killer bees in the TV.” “I’ll have a talk with him, dear.” “Great, Ward…while you do that I’ll go put the fires out and defrost the cat.”

Anyway, on your way through, the first thing you’ll notice about Rapture is that it’s a wide-open environment, which probably goes a long way toward being a first-person shooter that doesn’t churn my stomach. There’s a lot to see and plenty to do in Rapture, and when you’re surrounded by the surprisingly authentic art deco environments, it’s hard not to wind up immersed in the storyline. And that’s great. The storyline is easily one of the best things about BioShock. It’s unique to see 1950s-era science fiction taken so incredibly seriously (perhaps the only other game to do this was the Fallout series), and I welcome it. Even better, there will actually be scary parts–parts that are just so incredibly plausible that they will give you a momentary chill down your spine as you realize, hey, someone could DO THAT. And this might be the effect. That’s scary no matter how you slice it.

Great gameplay, great sound, great visuals…there’s very little about this game that isn’t amazing. Sure, the setting’s a bit outlandish. But that actually improves things—the bizarre nature of the setting allows you to put a little extra weight into suspension of disbelief, which lets the rest of the strangeness go down smoothly.

I loved this game, to be perfectly honest, and I’ll recommend it to anyone. BioShock has all the fun of a shooter with all the brainteasers of a full-on puzzler and a thoroughly engrossing storyline besides. There’s literally no reason to not enjoy this.

The above footage of BioShock Mobile(?) was taken at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona. Apparently, there will be two different versions of the game- a 2D version and a 3D version, obviously tailoring to the different hardware capabilites of phones.

“If we spin [BioShock] the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did,” said 2K president Christoph Hartmann. “Look at Star Wars. It’s a fight between good and evil, just like BioShock.”

“But we have to be careful not to cash in,” he added. “Because [BioShock] is so story driven, the question obviously arises: how long can you do it without turning into The Matrix? The first Matrix was great, the second one was weird and the third one, you thought: ‘Who [making this] is on crack and who isn’t?’”

The second entry – Sea of Dreams – is due out on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 later this year.

It seems like an eternity before anything regarding the PS3 version of Bioshock happens, but it seems new details regarding the upcoming DLC have emerged.

Apparently, the DLC will include three all new rooms (detailed below) for you to explore and will go on sale November 20th for $9.99. Not a bad investment for those looking to get more out of their aging game.

A Shocking Turn of Events – A Little Sister is trapped atop a Ferris wheel in an undisclosed location in Rapture. Using only the tools and environment around them, players must use their wits to create electricity to power the Ferris wheel and bring the Little Sister to safety.

The I in Team – Using limited resources, and an even more limited arsenal, players must negotiate traps and find a way to defeat a Big Daddy using their wits instead of raw firepower.

Worlds of Hurt – Step up and take on the most grueling challenge offered in the world of Rapture. Players must battle through eight rooms of Big Daddies, Splicers and the worst that Rapture has to offer. Accumulate Adam, build an arsenal of Plasmids, Tonics and Weaponry, and fight through to rescue the Little Sister.

After months of speculation the wait is finally over, BioShock will officially hit the PS3 on October 21st in the US and October 24th in the UK. The game will retail for the normal $59.99 with an M-rating, of course.

Featuring an almost identical story line to that of the PC and 360 versions of BioShock, the PS3 version will also feature an all new survival mode along with “Challenge Rooms” you can check out after finishing the storyline.

Also featured in the game is Sony’s new achievement trophy system, presumably awarding trophies similar to its 360 counterpart.
