Dead Rising 2 to have 6,500 more zombies than the first

Sure, we learned that Dead Rising 2 would be getting a multiplayer component but what we really care about are the zombies and more importantly, how we take care of those zombies.
During a recent presentation featuring Dead Rising 2, Capcom exec Keiji Inafune explaied to us how the first game’s engine was only capable of rendering 500 zombies on the screen at once. This may seem like a lot but for the second game, Capcom set their sights much higher:
“With Dead Rising 1 we got 500 zombies, but with DR2 we have 7,000, so we could have done much better the first time”, Mr. Inafune was quoted to say
7,000 zombies on the screen at once, a bit overwhelming, don’t you think? Not to Inafune; while he knows that ridiculous amounts of zombies won’t necessarily make the game better, it opens up a whole new ball park in terms of destruction:
For example, in Tokyo subway it gets very crowded with many people. Imagine getting onto a bike in Tokyo subway with two chainsaws attached to it and cutting through all those people, it’s just something that feels really damn good!
Let’s just hope he was using this as an example for what is to come in Dead Rising 2 and not a look into his sick and twisted fantasies.

Dead Rising 2 Has Multiplayer
Clearing confusions, rumors and the like, Capcom officially confirmed that Dead Rising 2 has online multiplayer.
"Rest assured we are going to put multiplayer in the game," said Capcom development head Keiji Inafune during a recent press event. "I can’t go into specifics about what type of multiplayer as that directly relates to some of the game systems that we don’t want to talk about at this event. It will be online multiplayer."
He noted that “single-player alone is not going to cut it,” adding that “we’re at a point in game history that you need to have some form of multiplayer component in a game.”
In development at Blue Castle, the zombie-killing simulation lets players take out zombies using guitars, animal heads and whatever they can find near their hands. It’s due out sometime next year on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
Official: Dead Rising 2 in Development
A sequel to the beloved zombie bashing title Dead Rising has been confirmed to be in development at Blue Castle, a Vancouver-based studio.
Eurogamer cites an anonymous source inside the studio, noting that “everyone’s really excited… it’s been hard to keep quiet, but they can’t wait to show off the game.” He wouldn’t offer a date for the public unveiling, though.
The original Dead Rising was released back in 2006 to both critical and commercial success on the Xbox 360. Capcom recently announced a Wii version of the game and has suggested that more titles are in development.
