Factor 5 Can’t Pay Employees
The aftereffects of Brash Entertainments closure continue with news that Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and Lair developer Factor 5 has been unable to pay its employees for over a month. This comes from a now-removed blog post from animator Sam Baker.
“If we left, there would have been no hope in F5 staying afloat,” read his post. “We had faith in the projects and the company, so there was no reason to bail just yet.”
The financial crisis caused the company to stop work on one of its titles after cutting employee health care. Baker was apparently told by president Julian Eggebrecht that employees should start looking for other jobs if funding wasnt secured within a week.
However, following reports on his post, Baker deleted the entire blog, claiming it was “easy to misinterpret.” Additinally, he clarified that the halted project wasnt the game being made from Brash.
“The other projects currently under way at Factor 5 are doing great,” he said. “We hadn’t received payment because of the situation with Brash, which is why I said I needed to look elsewhere for work.”
Saw Game Almost Done
The recent closure of Brash Entertainment saw many licensed game adaptations become orphans, and today horror centric site Bloody Disgusting reports that a game based on the Saw franchise was almost “nearing completion” with voice over work done.
The Unreal Engine 3-powered game was unveiled nearly a year ago, with Zombie Studios reportedly working on it. It was being aimed for release in October 2009, which I believe will be the time we see the sixth film installment.
Brash’s closure has hit many other projects, including games based on Prison Break, Six Flags Fun Park, 300 and a new Superman game from Factor 5.
Prison Break Coming to a Console Near You
Publisher Brash Entertainment will be bringing the popular Fox television show Prison Break to the realm of videogames in February 2009.
This was revealed by an ad contained in the recently released Season 3 DVD box set, with Gamespot reporting that no platforms or other details were listed.
The show stars Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller, telling the story of a tattoo-covered structural engineer who intentionally gets himself imprisoned in order to break out with his wrongly-convicted brother.
