Japanese schools incorporate Nintendo DS into cirriculum

It was recently made known that 10 elementary and middle schools in Osaka, Japan are now requiring that all students have a Nintendo DS. But why?
Well, according to That Video Game Blog, using the Nintendo DS as an educational tool in Japan is a lot bigger and more widely recognized than it is in the States. Sure we have some educational games, but nothing like what Japan has.
Apparently, the schools will be giving out games and other software for use with the Nintendo DS to actually help kids learn. I think the United States could learn something from this if these Japanese trials are deemed successful.
