Codemasters‘ Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising only just hit store shelves on October 6th but according to the game’s Executive Producer, Sion Lenton, that is only the beginning:

“It’s a really different type of market now; I remember five or six years ago, you’d get a game, finish it, put it back on the shelf and that was it. But now it’s almost as though the game’s release is just the beginning, really. Ours is a game that lends itself very well to expansion – there will be weapons packs, map packs – all sorts of things we can do to get our product out there.”

He then further elaborates on the game’s DLC future:

“We’ve got some very ambitious plans with DLC – our first pack is coming up in a matter of weeks,” Lenton said. “We’ll also have title updates coming up because once the game’s out there, we’ll need to get feedback from the people who are playing it, and if need be make a few adjustments and tweaks.”

So basically, instead of shipping the full game this new market gives developers the tools needed to continue to exploit support gamers for as long as they want.

It was recently made known that the highly anticipated FPS Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising has been made available for digital purchase through Valve’s digital distribution platform Steam for $39.99.

Those of you who like to have a physical copy of the game can spend $20 more dollar for the Xbox 360 and PS3 version or just $39.99 for the physical PC version.

Don’t know much about Codemasters‘ Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising? Below is its description on Steam:

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is a game about a fictitious conflict on one of the Sakhalin islands, a conflict that is in danger of erupting onto a global scale. The player takes the role of a US soldier, part of the allied force fighting against outnumbering Chinese forces vying for control of the island. The game centres on a campaign narrative that gives the player a variety of roles in the allied forces ranging from a Marine Infantry, tank commander, Special Forces and helicopter captain. The game has an incredible realistic depiction of war with careful attention to the detail of the weapons, equipment and tactics of the armed forces. The action is varied from intense fire fights through to slower pace tactical decision making on how to best tackle the mission objectives.

Codemasters announced today that the beta for Jumpgate: Evolution has reached a 250,000 beta sign-up milestone. Registrations are from both Europe and North America, making this Codemasters’ largest MMO beta to date.

The registrations mean nothing right now though, seeing as the publishers have delayed numerous launches for the beta. Right now, the space MMO scheduled for a release “later this year”, but not a lot of people can take those kinds of estimates seriously.

Currently, the closed beta is open to only a few select “family and friends”, so Jumpgate has a pretty small user base. However, the open beta is when the quarter of a million people will finally get a chance to try the game out. If you want to sign up, you can over at the Jumpgate site.

Racing fans everywhere mourned the death of the great Colin McRae after his unfortunate helicopter accident back in 2007. Furthermore it left fans of the popular DiRT series wondering if the franchise would push on.

Well, despite the tragic death, 2008 rolled around and DiRT 2 was announced still sporting the Colin McRae branding. The game’s title isn’t the only appearance Colin McRae will be making as according to MTV Multiplayer, there will be some other subtle and not-so-subtle acknoledgements in his memory.

Apparantly, a large chunk of the game will have players working to qualify for a Colin McRae Memorial Cup. Additionally, Codemaster’s Mark Turosz was quoted to have said “You’ll hear other drivers talking about him. He’s the central figure in the narrative.”

Colin McRae: DiRT 2 is set to hit shelves for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in September of this year.

Despite securing the title of having the worlds largest playable game environment, FUEL may find its way onto store shelves a week later than originally anticipated.

We are going to have to hold judgement on this one until Codemasters comes out and confirms this one as VG247 (the site that first reported this) is based in the UK. Does this mean that US gamers wont be getting their FUEL fix until early June instead of May 26th as well?

Again, there is no telling until Codemasters actually tells us but then again, it is just a week. As for the PC version of FUEL, Codemasters originally said it will be released shortly after its console counterpart so if the delay stands true expect the PC version to also be delayed.

As you can see above, Asobo Studio’s has recently secured themelves a spot in the Guiness World Book of Records for the “largest playable videogame environment”.

The game Asobo will recieve the award for is FUEL, a racing title set in a world annihilated by global warming. Players will be able to take to the enormous open world on both two and four wheeled vehicles. How enormous you say?

Well, Destructoid says that the side of FUEL’s environment is 5,560 square miles, roughly the size of Trinidad & Tobago. So Rockstart, it looks like you will really have to go over the top for Grand Theft Auto V.

Even then, it appears Codemasters has enough faith in it to sign on to publish Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust, according to a listing on its official website. Originally to be published by Sierra, the game was left without a publisher due to the Activision Blizzard merger.

Now due out this spring, the game is set to make parodies of movies without the involvement of series creator Al Lowe. It will be out on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Codemasters today re-announced the Operation Flashpoint sequel after two years, revealing that it is coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 alongside the PC. In addition, the game dropped the ‘2’ from its title and is now titled Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

Seeing as how Bohemia – series creators – have moved on to produce the ArmA franchise, Codemasters is developing the sequel internally. It makes use of the EGO engine, which was seen in action in Race Driver GRID and Colin McRae: DIRT.

Dragon Rising is due out this summer.

Expected next year on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, the game will focus on improving the original with enhancements to the graphics, physics, single-player career and multiplayer modes.

The game will honor and take inspiration from legendary driver Colin McRae, focusing on his late career. It will make use of an evolved version of the EGO engine that powered the first game as well as GRID; in fact, the studio has now tweaked the engine to get more out of the console hardware.

DiRT 2 will see extended replay features and a single-player career mode featuring real racing personalities, including Travis Pastrana and Ken Block.
