Command & Conquer 4 In Development Suggests Survey
I admit to having no interest in the genre, but I often find myself pitying RTS fans due to the long lag time between releases of titles worth playing. With some PC games if you purchased a top of the line system when the original came out you might still be able to play the sequel. If you still had your PC from when Starcraft was released it’d probably struggle to load the trailer for Starcraft 2.
Luckily for RTS fans a survey suggests development has begun on Command and Conquer 4, the final chapter in the Tiberium saga begun nearly fifteen years ago in the original title. The RTS classic comes back with some new changes and improvements. They’re boasting the Crawler, the first ever mobile base in an RTS game (yes, there have been games where the base could move, but presumably this one can move and still retain all its other functions while doing so) as well as some RPG flavors to the game.
As players battle in any mode, whether single player, multiplayer or skirmish they’ll gain experience points which allow you to unlock new units, abilities, equipment and upgrades to take the fight harder to your opponents in your next battle. Cooperative campaigns are making a comeback so players can get a friend in on the action as well in addition to huge five on five multiplayer matches with new objective modes as well as the standard gameplay.
None of these features are exactly confirmed though since they’re all simply mentioned in the survey, but since the Crawler is mentioned in the headline I’m guessing that’s a big favorite.
Command And Conquer: Red Alert 3 Game Review–What Might Have Been
Today’s word is “Alternate history”, folks, and it’s a kind of science fiction that deals strictly in the things that might have been. It goes back a long time, way back past World War II, and mostly encompasses books about Nazis or sometimes, the Confederate States of America.
But today, I’ve got a new and interesting example to bring to bear, and it comes to us in the form of real time strategy title Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3.
The plot is clear and tortuous at the same time–we’re picking up where Red Alert 2 left off, basically. It’s somewhere in the neighborhood of the late fifties, and the Soviet Union is about to buckle and wind up a temporarily neutered third-rate power, conquered by the Allied forces. But since they see it coming, the Soviet Union is about to unleash its newest secret project, a time machine. Made from what looks like large amounts of brick and scrap iron, the time machine manages to transport three Soviet officials, a scientist, General Krukov and the always popular Colonel Cherdenko, back to Brussels in 1927, where Albert Einstein was delivering a speech before a convocation of scientists. General Krukov then kills Einstein, thus ensuring that the numerous scientific advances the brilliant man gave to the Allies instead never existed.
And things look good for Mother Russia when the threesome returns to their present timeline–the altering of the space-time continuum has produced interesting fruit. Cherdenko is no longer a colonel, but rather the Premier of the Soviet Union. And business is good in the Soviet Union–they’re about to completely conquer Western Europe. But as Cherdenko is settling behind the big desk and about to start gloating, a sudden communique comes in–the Empire of the Rising Sun has just invaded eastern Russia, even seizing the Russian Pacific Fleet’s headquarters at Vladivostok and pushing as far as Leningrad. General Krukov orders an immediate nuclear strike, only to be met with confusion. What IS a “nuclear weapon”, anyway?
The “Empire of the Rising Sun”, of course, is just one of many changes that took place within the confines of Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3. Students of alternate history will LOVE to see the sheer array of them–from a Japan that never got nuked by the United States that became the Empire of the Rising Sun and followed its own technological path (it’s LADEN with robots, by the way), to the rest of the world developing bizarre technologies for use in a continual war.
This is where you come in. You can play as the Russians, the Empire of the Rising Sun, or the Allies, and you’re out to conquer the world for each. You’ll have a dizzying array of options at your command, and most of the game will be spent playing the same campaigns over and over until you learn all the enemy’s tricks and surprises, then counter them all. The sheer depth of this game is amazing, and will likely keep you playing for hours as you advance in each faction’s campaign. The additon of naval warfare is a development that’s been widely heralded, but on the down side, the game treats it like a kid with a new toy, badly overusing it, even to the point of neglecting the other kinds of combat.
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 is, overall, a deep and satisfying game experience that will prove to be even a match for Microsoft juggernaut Halo Wars.

A digital download expansion is on the way for Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, publisher Electronic Arts announced today. Dubbed Uprising, the standalone expansion will offer four mini-campaigns for each faction, as well as an additional campaign that focuses on the origins of the Japanese commando Yuriko.
The add-on will also introduce the Commanders Challenge, a mode where you will be able to test your strategy skills against a set of nine commanders from different territories and difficulty levels in 50 challenges, all with their own conditions and game rules.
There will also be new live-action cutscenes, with actresses Gemma Atkinson and Ivana Milicevic returning to reprise their roles.
“We’re giving gamers more of what they want – more of the fast, fluid and fun gameplay, more of the story we began to tell in Red Alert 3 and more cutscenes featuring top-notch Hollywood talent, said EA LA senior producer Amer Ajami. At the same time, we’re excited we’re going to be able to bring new things to the mix, including new units and the Commander’s Challenge, which is a great way for players to hone their skills and get deeper into the combat.”
Xbox Live gets Red Alert 3 demo

If you’ve been waiting for a chance to get your hand’s on EA’s Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 now’s your chance, sort of.
While the game as been out since early November on the 360 (late October for PC), it was recently announced by Major Nelson that the demo for the game has recently hit the Xbox Live Marketplace. Don’t get too excited though, the demo doesn’t include any multiplayer, bummer!
Featuring single-player missions from both Allied and Soviet campaigns, this demo will be the perfect opportunity to see if it actually is possible to develop a decent RTS for a console, or will we have to wait until Halo Wars for that?
Tiberium Cancelled

We first learned the first person shooter based on the Command & Conquer universe, Tiberium, would be delayed to a 2010 release. Today, even more upsetting news has been delivered; Electronic Arts announced that the game is cancelled. Mike Verdu, the executive producer for the canned title, said that the reason behind the cancellation was due to the game not meeting quality standards.
