Penetration of DirectX 10 hardware and Windows Vista is pretty high nowadays, but gamer reception to it has not been entirely positive. Keeping that in mind, Creative Assembly’s upcoming RTS Stormrise will be one of the first PC games to require both a DX10-capable video card and Windows Vista.

"Stormrise has been designed for DirectX 10 and Vista only right from the start," said Stormrise lead designer Artem Kulakov, who added: "Vista only. DX10 only. No fallback option. We have never suggested this or hinted at it, so it shouldn’t be a surprise."

Speaking of the move, he said that DX10 offers a lot of “advantages” over DX9 and that they have had fewer driver-specific compatibility issues.

Stormrise is a small-scale real-time strategy designed for consoles in mind. It is expected to hit stores on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this month.

Finally, one can actually be glad that the game they had been looking to was delayed: following word that Empire: Total War had been delayed for one month, developer Creative Assembly has revealed that they are using the extra time to add a full campaign multiplayer mode to the strategy title.

“The additional time will allow us to implement the underlying technology for a much desired feature; a multiplayer campaign mode,” wrote Creative Assembly’s Mark O’Connell. “An opportunity to participate in the 1 versus 1 multiplayer campaign mode beta will be made available to all Empire Total War buyers post release.”

The game is due out in March 2009.

Empire: Total War Delayed

Publisher Sega today announced that Creative Assemblys upcoming strategy game Empire: Total Warhas been delayed to early March 2009.

The large scale, Napoleonic-era title was originally expected to hit PC on February 3, 2009. The reason for the delay wasnt provided, but the extra time means more polish, which is always a good thing in my book.

On release, a special edition version will also be available, offering exclusive units and a detailed print of the campaign map. Sega previously announced that the game would make use of Valves Steamworkspublishing and development suite. This will allow auto updates, downloadable content, friendlist support and achievements, among other things, to the title.
