EVE Online: Dominion coming this Winter

August 31st, 2009 2 Comments   Posted in Adventure, MMO, PC, RPG

The eleventh free expansion for CCP Games’ MMORPG EVE Online has been announced today. Titled Dominion, the expansion is currently set for a Winter release this year.

EVE Online: Dominion will focus on primarily endgame content – alliance warfare. A complete overhaul of sovereignty mechanics will occur, and new epic arcs for pirate factions will also be introduced.

The game has been around since 2003, so it’s very surprising that it’s still going strong against giants like World of Warcraft and Lineage II. Blizzard only offers paid expansions for their game, so CCP Games’ approach is a very unique one.

In Galactic Adventure players will take the rank of Space Captain as they adventure the galaxy (ironic huh?) unlocking and collecting 30 new “game-changing items and accessories”.

And what’s a game without some sort of achievements, right? Players will be given a Creature Card, that showcases their ranking and accomplishments.

Yep, that’s all we have to go by for now, no release date or pricing.

Chinese gamers to wait even longer for the Lich King

February 19th, 2009 No Comments   Posted in MMO, Online, PC

It seems like Blizzards latest expansion for the popular World of Warcraft, Wrath of the Lich King, has been out here in the states forever but the same could not be said for China.

Apparently, the expansion’s release date has been delayed even further, but why?

Well speculation has circulated that Blizzard and The9, China’s WoW distributor, are in a bit of a quarrel. Apparently, Blizzard wants more money for WoW’s license and the9 doesn’t want to give it. Oh you two.

Blizzard knows what’s going into next WoW expansion

December 5th, 2008 No Comments   Posted in Business, MMO, Multiplayer, Online, PC

It hasn’t even been a month since Blizzard launched the latest World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, and already they are talking about the next expansion.

Blizzard’s COO Paul Sams was quoted in a recent interview with PCRetail, when asked if they have plans for the next exanpsion, to have said:

Well, we don’t have anything to share on that but the development team has a very long forward look, and they don’t know all the specifics elements of the future, but the general framework is in the heads of the production staff, designers and team members. So they do know where it is going to go, but a lot of specifics they determine along the way”. Sams continued “We have a lot of creative people on the team and they have no shortage of great ideas – it’s a matter of figuring out the right ideas for each content update or expansion that fits the story that we’re trying to tell. Every time I talk to that group the ideas just keep overflowing, so we feel there’s a lot still to do.

But just how many expansions is Blizzard going to keep pumping out until they move onto something like World of Warcraft 2? Sams went on to say that while there is a significant user base playing WoW, Blizzard will continue to support them and add new content.

halorecon_noesrb_fr Even more information on Bungie’s expansion Halo 3: Recon has come from the Tokyo Game Show. Destructoid attended a conference where it was mentioned that the game takes place “during the events leading up to Master Chief’s return to New Mombasa” meaning that the game takes place between the last two Halo games.

Meanwhile, over on NeoGAF, Bungie’s Luke Smith posted word that Recon “isn’t a stealth action game like Splinter Cell.” What that means is that core gameplay mechanics like health regeneration may be out of the question, but Smith is being cryptic about it: "No, I’m not talking about how it’s different.”

Halo 3: Recon is expected to be released exclusive to Xbox 360 in Fall 2009.

Retailers have recently become the source for looking up unannounced games and expansions. This time around, GameStop and Amazon are both responsible for possibly revealing the “Cute & Creepy Parts Pack” for Spore, which was recently released to much critical acclaim.

Fan site Hooked on Spore points to Google caches of either retailers, noting that both listed the item for release on November 18, with GameStop even putting a price tag on it: $19.99.
