In celebration of the 25th anniversary of BattleTech, MechWarrior 4: Vengeance will be made available free to download. All of the game’s existing expansions, Black Knight and Mercenaries, will also be included in the offer.

The game was released nearly nine years ago, so it will be interesting to see how far the series has come since then. No word on when the download will be up, but it will hopefully be available in the following days. MechWarrior 4 will be exclusively distributed by MekTek Studios.

To commemorate the artist’s greatness Microsoft decided to offer the music video for his hit single Thriller free over charge during the weekend.

Well, during the 2 days it was offerent MTV Multiplayer reports that the video was downloaded over 50,000 times. They then go on to point out that 50,000 is just 0.25% of Xbox Live’s 20 million subscriber base. Of course, Michael Jackson might be considered a bit old school to the majority of those 20 million.

Nonetheless, Michael Jackson’s legacy shall live on.

Just as previously reported, the trial for Crysis Wars has officially went live today. The will will run until April 17th and will allow players to play both online multiplayer along with LAN multiplayer.

That’s not all as Crytek has went ahead and announced the entrance of Crysis Maximum Edition marketed towards latecomers on the Crysis scene, hitting May 5th. Included in the Maximum Edition is Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and Crysis Wars priced at an honest $39.99.

Honestly though, Crytek, will all of your games have titles that are just variations of “Crysis“?

I admit, that while on Kongregate, I found a game that turned out to be a whole lot different from what I expected. When you walk in on a game that calls itself Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (WTF for those of you who don’t know radio lingo), you don’t exactly know what to expect out of it. So when I got a mild Space Invaders clone, I was somewhat relieved if a bit disappointed.

In Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, the White House is under attack, and you’ll take command of what might be a tank and what might be a column to fire random blobs at threats that fall from the sky, everything from paratroopers to UFOs to bombs and all the way up to enormous cruise missiles. You’ll go up in rank for every wave you survive (I personally got as high as major), and every enemy you miss adds to your threat level, which will end the game upon reaching a certain height.
Certain things could have improved the game vastly–different weapons, various other threats besides the standard four that I’ve already listed, even a way to lower the threat level as you proceed would’ve made for a deeper gameplay experience. But no, we’re stuck with a fairly bare-bones shooter that doesn’t bring in a whole lot of fun.

It’s not exactly a bit of long term fun, but I don’t necessarily regret giving it a try. I’d likely never go back so I really can’t recommend it, but if you do feel like giving it a try, you might not be terribly disappointed.

Released for free, the mission was originally intended to be the third mission in the game’s Global Liberation Army campaign; it proved to be a bit too edgy to be included in the final release. Dubbed “Black Sheep”, the mission entails:

…Players were given command of the Toxin Tractor, a slow-going farm vehicle modified to spray a deadly corrosive agent, and ordered to eliminate a town that had been "corrupted beyond salvation" by the USA’s propaganda. While the mission was ultimately removed from Generals, the Toxin Tractor was available in other campaign missions, as well as in multiplayer and skirmish modes.

If you have the game, be sure to check this unethical (and also immoral) mission out.

A major free update for EVE Online will be released on March 10, announced its developer CCP today. The expansion, dubbed Apocrypha, will bring unpredictable wormholes to the game, connecting new regions of the universe to the existing space of New Eden. It will also introduce modular Tech 3 ships and Epic Mission Arc, which are lengthy, branching quests for deep space explorers.

The content comes as the latest update to the game which has been running for quite some time now. It now has a complex financial ecosystem and population, with CCP recently reporting that its previous record for concurrent EVE players was broken when over 45,000 users were recorded to playing the single-shard game simultaneously.

The game puts you in control of the evolution of a single species throughout several different phases of life.

In the mean time, however, Maxis will be releasing a free trial version of the Creature Creator. The software will allow players to create, you guessed it, creatures. It will contain around 25% of all of the available creature parts of the full retail game. The trial software will be included in the SimCity Box, which is slated for a June release. Alternatively, you can download the trial separately on the official website around the same time.
