GameTap Sold to Metaboli
GameTap, Turner’s popular digital distribution service offering PC games, has been sold to Paris-based Metaboli, an European digital distribution service provider. This comes after Turner announced its intentions to sell the service by taking a $18 million writeoff.
The service will carry on business as usual. Metaboli, after a “transition period” will take direct control of the service sometime next year. There will be no interruption in service.
"The addition of GameTap provides us a foothold in the U.S. market," said Metaboli CEO Pierre Gaudet in a press release.
The service has been a platform for classic games, as well as original games such as American McGee’s Grimm series.
GameTap to be Sold
On the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is word that Turner Broadcasting is looking to sell off GameTap, its free and subscriber online gaming service. This comes through the company’s second quarter earnings results, which mentioned $18 million noncash impairment attributed to the sale of GameTap.
No potential buyers have been identified yet, but Turner notes that there is “considerable marketplace interest in the GameTap business and brand.”
Despite all this, GameTap is continuing its normal operations and are releasing American McGee’s new episodic game.
