Digital distribution of PS3 gamers unlikely, unpractical

We learned back at E3 that Microsoft would be discontinuing their Xbox Originals service to make way for their all new Games on Demand service that would let gamers download full Xbox 360 titles. This led many gamers to turn their head towards Sony asking if they too would offer an extensive library of full retail games for digital deliver. I mean they already offer games like Warhawk and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, right?
Eric Lempel, an exec over at Sony, responded to the idea:
It’s not something we have planned, just because the size of the games is massive. With Blu-ray we can put up to 50 gigs on a dual-layer disc, while [Xbox 360] is still on a 9-gig media. So technically it’s possible, but I think the issue would be, ‘Do you want to download 40 gigs and keep that on your hard drive?
I’ll have to agree with Mr. Lempel, downloading a 40GB game and storing it on the PS3’s harddrive wouldn’t be my idea of a walk in the park. However, waht about the multiplatform games that only take up a fraction of a Blu-ray’s

Gran Turismo Café opens shop in Japan

It was recently made known that Polyphony Digital, developer of the popular Gran Turismo franchise, has officially opened the first Gran Turismo Café in Japan.
Featured in the café is food, obviously, but other than that there are three “play booths” featuring Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. There’s no pictures of the actual establishment so all we have to go by is the above sketch.
Good food and a few races of Gran Turismo? Let’s hope these things come Stateside.

Then and Now: How the PS3’s graphics have progressed

Push Square has recently put up a great article comparing and contrasting ingame graphics from PS3’s launch titles to more recent titles.
What you see above is their comparison of Resistance: Fall of Man and Killzone 2. As you can see they both look rather stunning, but Killzone 2’s realistic lighting, debris, and general effects really puts Resistance to shame. That’s not all though, they also compare games like Ridge Racer 5 and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, and Virtua Fighter 5 with Soul Calibur IV.
They came to a verdict that developers are definitely progressing in terms of graphics when it comes to the PS3 in particular. There is still room for improvement though, if what Sony says about the PS3 having a 10 year life span is true, we’re sure to be seeing more and more hardware capabilities unlocked as time progresses.
GT 5 Prologue Gets 5 New Cars, Gameplay Tweaks
Sony’s Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has been updated to include three new cars from the ongoing Paris Motor Show as well as a number of tweaks that essentially update the game’s core.
The new cars are Ferrari California, the “GT by Citroen” concept, and the Lotus Evora. The gameplay tweaks include changes to the penalty system, difficulty changes and winnings in Race events; it also improves responsiveness for wireless controllers, among other things.
All this comes at a price, though, as “rankings, arcade time trial times, drift trial records, as well as vehicle-specific quick tune settings and custom key layouts” will all be reset when the update is applied. It is also added that replay data from before the second update will be made unviewable.
