Killzone 3 already in development, on store shelves by 2010?

Killzone 2 only just hit store shelves earlier this year and just now reports are coming to light that says Killzone 3 is already in development.
News comes to us from the Official Playstation Magazine who says Killzone 3 is to be one of Guerilla Games‘ secret projects for 2010 and is under heavy development over at the studio.
Just how much stock should you put into this report? Well, the Official Playstation Magazine is pretty credible considering the obvious but Killzone 2 took 4 years to get onto store shelves so I think it’s safe to say we will be seeing a delay, or two.

Killzone 2 Napalm & Cordite coming July 23rd

Last week we were given the first look at Killzone 2’s forthcoming Napalm & Cordite DLC pack. Today, we have now know that said DLC pack will be headed to the PSN next Thursday, July 23rd.
For those who haven’t been paying attention, this pack will include the Suljeva Cliffside and Arctown Landing multiplayer maps along with VC1 Flamethrower and Boltgun 440 weapons, also for multiplayer use.
Unfortunately, it was also made known that the new weapons will only be useable on the maps included in the pack. Bummer.

Yesterday, a PS3 trophy list was uncovered that showed new content coming to Guerilla’s Killzone 2. Today, we have an official announcement coming straight from the Playstation Blog: a DLC pack entitled Napalm & Cordite.
This pack will include both the flamethrower and boltgun, along with the maps Suljeva Cliffside and Arctower landing, just as the trophy list had suggested.
Furthermore, the pack will update Killzone 2 to version 1.28 which brings all sorts of bug fixes and the like. You can check the full list of changes includes in said version after the break.
More information is to be released about the DLC pack next week.
2 new weapons and 2 new maps coming to Killzone 2

Thanks to the above image, provided by Kotaku, of recently added Killzone 2 trophies, we now know what a future DLC pack will contain.
As you can see, two new weapons en route to the game are the Boltgun and Flamethrower. Additionally, two new maps are to be called Arctower Landing and Suljeva Cliffside.
While all of the above-mentioned content is still unconfirmed, they are sure to be showing up in a forthcoming DLC pack for Killzone 2 sooner or later. Now all we need is an official announcement from Guerilla and we’re set.
Killzone 2 update causes intro to be unskippable

There’s nothing that I hate more than games that force you to watch their opening cinematics. Yeah I know, it’s an attempt by the developers to engage players into the storyline but more often then not I just want to dive into the action.
Luckily, Killzone 2 was not one of these games, until recently that is. Reports have surfaced that after downloading a recently released patch, the introductory movie could not be skipped no matter how many buttons you press. Is this just an evil joke by Guerilla? Nope, after contacted by Destructoid they released the following statement:
We’ve had many reports of this. The QA team is aware of it and looking for a fix.
Let’s hope a fix comes sooner than later because I’m sure there are players out there who have been tempted to send their controller flying at their TV screen after being forced to watch the intro for the 50th time.

More map packs are in the works, with one said to feature single-player maps.
Killzone 2 Map Pack Coming
The awesomeness of Killzone 2 continues, as Guerilla Games has announced a new map pack for the first-person shooter. Set for release by the end of the month, the pack will offer two new multiplayer maps.
No pricing was given for the pack, which is titled “Steel & Titanium”. Vektra Cruiser is the first map, offering a vertically-oriented arena set in an ISA flagship. The other map is Wasteland Bullet, which features two speeding trains that allow players to hop between them.
All this was revealed by studio director Herman Hulst in an interview on Gametrailers TV. He also teased that a second map pack is in development and that it will include a “retro” map.
Killzone 2 sells a millie

It’s official, Guerilla Games’ Killzone 2 has officially surpassed the 1,000,000 units sold mark just 2 weeks after it hit store shelves.
And just for clarification, these 1,000,000 copies were sold in North America and Europe alone, other markets were not included in the statistic.
Also, for another fun fact, on Killzone 2’s opening weekend a full 700,000 copies were sold. It’s no Halo 3, but Sony may be onto something.

Killzone 2 update fixes controls?

Since Killzone 2 hit shelves there have been a small number of complaints regarding its controls. Well, a patch has recently been released, version 1.2, that has been rumored to slightly alter the controls.
Gamezine reports that the update has effectively elimnated the problems which included input lag issues.
What about you guys? Have you a little more peppiness in the Killzone 2 controls ever since 1.2 was released?
Killzone 2 controls under investigation

Word has been circulating the internet that there are several players out there experiencing some issues with the control scheme implemented into Killzone 2.
Well, after initially denying the fact, Guerilla Games has announced that they are currently looking into the problem.
Destruction quotes Producer Seb Downie to have said the following:
Okay, before I start crying.
1. We have not decided if we are going to do anything to the controls. We are investigating.
2. If we change them, we have not said how. No reason to get upset. We are not going to turn them on their head. It would not be sweeping changes.
3. Any potential changes made will be carefully analyzed and tested to ensure they do not negatively affect players who do not experience any issues.
Let’s just hope this problem is squashed before it escalates any further. I mean, Killzone 2 is pretty much the killer app for PS3 currently, right?
Killzone 2 webgame?

Sony has recently announced that a Killzone 2 webgame, which has apparently been in the works for some time, is now open to the public.
All you need to do is head over to www.killzonewebgame.com, register, and begin playing.
Sony said the following about the game:
Battle the Helghast across the entire World Wide Web. Shoot up the internet. Leave a trail of destruction in your wake. Whether you’re checking your email, doing some shopping or just randomly surfing, the Helghast can strike at any time. The www is now one big Killzone.
Sounds like Sony is trying to create some extra hype right before the game if you ask me.

Killzone 2 DLC already in the works?

Guerilla Games’ Killzone 2 is still a good 10 days away from a North American launch but already rumors are circulating the internet about DLC. It is pretty much a given that some sort of DLC will be released for the game, but what exactly is it?
Well, if rumors are to be believed, an in-game store is to be added to the game (a la Metal Gear Solid 4) that is expected to house things like clothes and such for the multiplayer mode. Other than that, rumors are pointing towards a retro pack that will include maps from the original game, along with packs containing all new packs.
Don’t get your hopes up yet, however, as this is all still a rumor. But again, it can be generally accepted that Guerilla Games will definitly release some sort of Killzone 2 DLC after the games release.

Killzone 2 Gone Gold
With a little more than a month left, Guerilla Games’ highly anticipated first-person shooter Killzone 2 has gone gold, meaning that the game’s code is complete and that it has been sent off to manufacturing.
Killzone 2 is due out in North America on February 27. Word of a playable demo was released a couple weeks ago, though it will require you to pre-order the game if you want to get a sample of it before the game’s release. The demo will be publicly released the day before the game hits.
“I couldn’t be more ecstatic with what the fine folks at Guerrilla have accomplished and we cannot wait to get this thing into your hands,” wrote associate producer Mike Graham on the PlayStation blog.
Killzone 2 to Go Beyond Dull, Dreary Cities

Tired of the same old gritty warzones presented in action games? So far, Sony’s flagship title Killzone 2 has been a victim of it, too, with what appears to be slums and warehouses to be the main attractions of the show. However, it is being reported that those dull, dreary locations won’t be the only locations you will explore in the game’s world.
“[Helgan] is not just grey urban wasteland,” said Guerilla Games Q&Q Manager Seb Downie on the PlayStation forums.
His comments go hand-in-hand with EGM’s preview of the game in its August issue, which pointed out that some levels will go beyond the cities and show the “natural beauty” of the terrible planet. It is not known if there will be green fields and whatnot, but it sure will be interesting.
Killzone 2 is due out February 2009 exclusively on the PS3.
