Modern Warfare 2 isn’t supposed to launch until 12am tonight, as you most likely already know, but it seems that some GameStops in the North East have broken the street date.

Kotaku says that one such retailer was quoted to have said that they were given permission by Activision to start handing out the title a day early to which they quickly responded:

“Activision has not given any retailer permission to sell Modern Warfare 2 prior to the Nov. 10 street date. The company fully supports the Nov.10 street date.”

On the other hand, if you did get your hands on the game early you don’t have to worry about getting the banhammer as Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling pushed out the following tweet:

“ANY store selling #MW2 early is in violation of street date. There are no “special permissions”. That said, we won’t punish players for it.”

Activision comments on leaked Modern Warfare 2 footage

If you’ve been following Modern Warfare 2 as close as possible you will know that a video of the first level leaked onto the internet yesterday. If you’re not a fan of spoilers, DO NOT READ ON.

The video showcased a group of terrorists proceeding through a airport gunning down a ridiculous amount of civilians in the process while one of the terrorists is controlled by the player. At the end of the video, the player controlled terrorist is shown getting betrayed by the rest of the group and is left on the ground to die.

Well, Activision has today commented on the video saying that the player has an option to skip this scene and is warned that it is potentially disturbing. They also have said that the level is in the game to show the player how urgently they need to stop this terrorist organization and that the game is intended for those 18 or older so they aren’t really in the wrong putting it in there.

Of course, this level is going to have a whole slew of negative media attention.

Leaked copies of Borderlands unplayable until October 26th

October 22nd, 2009 3 Comments   Posted in PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

borderlands

It seems that some lucky gamers were able to get their hands on a copy of Borderlands before ahead of its October 27th street date. But for those of you who weren’t able to get their hands on a prerelease copy, don’t’ be discouraged as reports are popping up that the game won’t even be playable until October 26th, singleplayer included.

But what gives? Well it seems that 2K Games wants everyone to wait until the game is available to everyone but it has left some gamers unhappy. One German gamer sent the following tweet to Gearbox:

I own a legal PC-copy of Borderlands, and we can’t even play the Singleplayer cause of the shitty Securom-protection

But honestly though, is it really Gearbox’s fault that retailers are breaking the street date? Just be patient, wait it out and everything will be fine, I promise.

October 22nd, 2009 No Comments   Posted in PC, Xbox 360

A new Left 4 Dead 2 trailer has hit the webs that has reportedly been leaked. Exactly how it leaked, we don’t know, but the chances of Valve purposely leaking it to stir up hype sounds about right.

Anyways, check out the video, it doesn’t feature any game play but it does feature some nice cinematic action for your viewing pleasure.

Left 4 Dead 2 will be hitting store shelves for the PC and Xbox 360 on November 17th of this year.

PSP Go already on sale at select Targets?

hile the PSP Go isn’t officially set to go on sale until October 1st it seems that some Target locations have broken the street date, as you can see above.

This picture was taken by an Engadget reader who spotted the PSP Go in stock and on sale at a Target around Atlanta. We’re not sure exactly how many more Targets (if any) are selling the hardware but if you’re feeling lucky head over to your local store. What do you have to lose?

Leaked Halo 3: ODST campaign footage

September 2nd, 2009 No Comments   Posted in FPS, Microsoft, Xbox 360

Now we’re not sure how long the above video is going to be around for so if you’re looking to get in on the action, you better do it fast. But anyways, included in said video is over 8 minutes of leaked Halo 3: ODST footage. Of course, being campaign footage there will be a ton of spoilers so don’t say I didn’t warn you.

As for the rest of us who don’t like spoilers, well, we’re just going to have to wait until September 22nd when the game is officially released.

Fake Dragon Quest IX circulates torrent sites

July 9th, 2009 2 Comments   Posted in Nintendo, Nintendo DS, Software

When a game is as hyped as Dragon Quest IX, there is bound to be a leak. I mean c’mon, the game was pre-ordered how many times, 2 million?

Unfortunately, some tricksters thought it would be funny to release a fake torrent that featured nothing other than a hentai slideshow. Futhermore, said hentai slideshow bricks your Nintendo DS if you decide to run the pirated software.

So just as a personal note, if you feel the need to download Dragon Quest IX prior to its release date, don’t do it as it’s probably a fake.

Microsoft CEO apologizes for misleading Natal statement

June 22nd, 2009 1 Comment   Posted in E3, Microsoft, Rumor, Technology, Xbox 360

Earlier this month Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was caught stating that a new Xbox 360 console will be released in 2010 sporting a built-in camera and a new interface. Shortly after, Microsoft proceeded to say that the executive was mistaken and that there will be no new console in 2010.

Well, it looks like Ballmer is back this time apologizing for his “misleading” statement saying, “I confused the issue with my poorly chosen words. There is no news in my comments. Things are as reported after E3. Sorry”.

Natal hopefuls need not be discouraged as the motion-sensing camera is still (presumably) slated for a release sometime in 2010. As for a new Xbox console? Probably not.

GameStop’s NHL 10 product listing reveals new features

June 19th, 2009 2 Comments   Posted in PlayStation 3, Sports, Xbox 360

It looks like GameStop is at it again, this time updating NHL 10’s product listing with a bunch of new features previously unannounced by EA Sports.

Below is the full list of new features taken from GameStop’s NHL 10 product listing:

  • New Battle for the Cup Mode: Experience the intensity of NHL playoff hockey. Play through injuries, intimidate rivals, and match lines as storylines carry across the entire series.
  • Build a Stanley Cup Champion: All-new GM mode lets you scout amateurs, put players on the trading block, hire staff, and earn experience points to become a legendary GM.
  • Battle on the Boards: Shield the puck with your body, kick-pass it to teammates, or pin your opponent against the boards with an all-new board play engine.
  • All-New First-Person Fighting: Change the momentum by trading blows with an NHL enforcer. Tug an opponent’s jersey to gain an advantage—before or after the whistle.
  • Become the Ultimate Pro: Improve your draft status by dominating the prospects game, then use new coaching tips, improved teammate AI, and detailed position instructions as you build the ultimate career.
  • Capture Multiple Championships: The coveted EA SPORTS Hockey League Cup is always up for grabs as new seasons start on a monthly basis online.
  • New Intimidation Tactics: Fore-check defenders, pressure the puck, and finish checks to force your opponent into mistakes, as players fatigue, bobble passes, and avoid collisions under threat of physical pressure.
  • All-New Post-Whistle Action: The action never stops! Antagonize opposing players, finish checks, retaliate for late shots on goal, draw penalties, and pick fights—all after the referee blows the whistle!
  • Like I said, EA Sports hasn’t said anything about these new features so until they do you should hold judgement on this one. Then again, the list seems pretty legit and it’s (presumably) unlikely someone at GameStop would pull such an elaborate prank.

EA Sports’ NHL 10 will be out for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on September 15th.

GameStop breaks Fallout 3’s Point Lookout DLC street date

June 19th, 2009 1 Comment   Posted in DLC, FPS, Microsoft, PC, RPG, Xbox 360

Fans of Bethesda’s Fallout 3 will be happy to hear that GameStop has begun selling the game’s newest DLC pack, Point Lookout, pior to its scheduled June 23rd release date.

Now, we’re not sure how long they will be selling Point Lookout for but Kotaku has confirmed that they are in fact shipping the content. Better yet, they have also confirmed that the codes shipped by GameStop are working and will give players the chance to play Point Lookout early.

So Fallout 3-ers, what are you waiting for?

Microsoft responds to Steve Ballmer’s Project Natal statement

Earlier today Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer let everyone know that there will be a new Xbox 360 console released in 2010 sporting a built-in camera.

Well, according to Microsoft Ballmer may need to get his facts straight; Director of Productive Management for the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live over at Microsoft, Aaron Greenberg, told Kotaku:

There will be no new console… We’re not going to be launching a new console any time soon. I really believe he was speaking about Project Natal. We want to make sure people know that we’re excited about Project Natal but we’re barely halfway through this generation. We’re happy with the Xbox 360, so there are no changes from that standpoint. For the time being, we’re really just showing a new category of gaming.

Who will you believe? Steve Ballmer, or Aaron Greenberg. While it’s possible that Ballmer slipped up and announced a product before it was supposed to be announced it’s also possible that he got a new console mixed up with Project Natal. Either way, we shall see how this story unfolds as this isn’t the first time Microsoft has denied a new console rumor.

DJ Hero bundle dated and priced thanks to Amazon, Gamestop?

Now, this isn’t an official announcement from Activison but if the recent product listings are to be believed from both Amazon and GameStop then we may have a hint on when DJ Hero will be released and at what price point.

Both websites have DJ Hero (bundled with the turn-table controller) slated for an October 27th release date at $119.99 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. The difference between the two however is that while GameStop has the PS2 version of DJ Hero priced at $119.99 the Amazon listing has it at $99.

Who is to be believed? Well, if all of this is true then Amazon’s listing makes sense considering the PS2 is a last generation console. Then again, there is no telling if any of this is true until Activision comes forward and makes an announcement of their own regarding DJ Hero’s release date and price.

Metal Gear Solid movie poster leaked?

    June 16th, 2009 1 Comment   Posted in PlayStation 3

What you see above is supposedly a picture taken at the offices of Sony Pictures, which is based in Culver City, CA, of a movie poster for none other than Metal Gear Solid.

There is no official word from Sony (or anyone else for that matter) but the poster states that both Daniel Craig and Christian Bale will be featured in the movie. Not only that, but it will also be hitting movie theatres sometime in July 2011.

Definitely take this with a grain of salt until we heard official confirmation from anyone involved.

Bethesda’s Morrowind and Oblivion coming to Steam?

June 12th, 2009 2 Comments   Posted in DLC, PC, RPG, Rumor

If the above image is anything to go by the guys over at Steam seem to have uploaded said image clearly displaying Bethesda’s Morrowind and Oblivion before they were announced to hit the service.

The ad was displayed on the homepage for a brief period of time before it was taken down. However, you can still view the ad to verify its legitimacy here, which is clearly located on the Steam’s servers.

I think its safe to say that both of these games will in fact be hitting the service at some point in the very near future. I mean, Bethesda’s Fallout 3 is available from Steam, why not some of their back catalog too?

    PSP Go officially announced

June 2nd, 2009 1 Comment   Posted in E3, Hardware, PSP, Portable, Technology

Despite having everything from hardware specs to official press images leaked a few days ago, Sony has come forth at their E3 conference and taken the veil that was never really their off of the PSP Go.

Just like stated in the leaked specs, the PSP Go will include 16GB of internal storage, no UMD slot and a slideout control panel. Of course, no UMD slot means a 100% digital library of games which is certainly a step towards the future.

Something we didn’t know from the leaked documents was the price and relesae date which were also revealed during the E3 conference. The PSP Go will sell for $249 and hit store shelves in the United States this October.
