The Leipzig convention was first held in 2002 and allows both the public and the press to experience new and upcoming titles from publishers. This year’s event was the most successful, boasting over 203,000 attendees.

“The concept is flexible and the network of the global games industry permits us to be active at different locations,” said Leipziger Messe CEO Wolfgang Marzin.

North America is already host to various conventions including E3, GDC, E for All and PAX, though the convention circuit has been mired by criticism and lacking exhibitor interest.

While there have been some rumors floating around about a new PSP model, there was no official word from Sony on when we would be seeing a new model, if at all.

Well, the secret’s out as Sony has officially unveiled its latest addition to the PSP line at Leipzig, the PSP-3000.

Featuring nothig more than a built in mic and new glare-proof, more colorfull screen, we don’t expect PSP owners to rush to their local game store waiting for the release of this thing. I mean, with a new model number like 3000, I would expect a complete redesign.

The PSP-3000 will launch on October 15th in PAL territories for around $300.
