Uncharted 2 Twitter feature gets disabled for the time being

A few weeks ago it was made known that Uncharted 2 would feature the ability to update your Twitter feed when you recieved a Trophy, connected to a multiplayer game and more.

In theory, this sounds like a good idea, but someone following an Uncharted 2 fiend would undoubtedly get ridiculous annoyed. Naughty Dog seems to have taken note of this, issuing the below statement:

“Some reviewers have had early access to the game and selected the option to update their Twitter accounts as they completed each chapter of the game. This has resulted in some Twitter feeds being updated multiple times an hour. We obviously want to provide the best experience for everybody, so for the time being we’ve disabled Twitter updates on chapter completions. The option will still exist in the menus when the game ships on 10/13, but if activated, it will do nothing. Some time after the game has shipped, we’ll release a patch to reactivate the feature, but with a limit on the frequency of updates.”

Now here’s an idea — It was recently discovered that Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will feature out of the box Twitter compatibility. No, you won’t be able to manually update your Twitter feed from in the game but instead, if you opt for it, the game will send out periodical tweets showing your followers when you have obtained a new Trophy, completed a single-player mission or even connect to a multiplayer game.

This probably isn’t the most exciting feature out there but for you avid Twitter users who feel the need to keep the world updated of your every action, this may be a god send.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will hit store shelves exclusively for the Playstation 3 on October 13th, 2009.

u2fortuneOver at the Penny Arcade Expo panel for Uncharted 2 comes word of the rare Fortune Hunter Edition package for the game. The reason why it’s so rare is that it cannot be bought, but only won through Sony endorsed contests.

In the package includes a retail copy of the game, an autographed copy of the Collectible Art Book and Collector case, and even exact in-game replica of the Phurba Dagger Artifact and stand. Unspecific downloads are also thrown into the mix.

Uncharted developers offer game’s source code to first-party devs

July 2nd, 2009 1 Comment   Posted in PlayStation 3, Software, Technology

Naughty Dog is looking to really further the Playstation 3’s development, recently announcing that they will make the entire source code for Uncharted available to all of Sony’s first-party developers.

Evan Wells, co-president of Naughty Dog, said the following:

“We’re very fortunate to have a great group of first party developers within Sony that we’re able to collaborate with. We’re frequently exchanging technical ideas and even share some code from time to time. We’ve even posted the entire source code of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune to Sony’s internal severs so that any first party developer can look through it, or borrow from it and we plan on doing the same thing when Uncharted 2 ships.”

Let’s hope that Naughty Dog’s contribution to the community will help other game developers get their games on par, at least graphically, with Uncharted.
