The post-hardcore AFI’s unreleased single off their new album, Medicate, will be making its debut on the game before it releases in stores. A never before released live recording of “The Spirit of Radio” from Rush will also be included. Here’s the full list:

You didn’t think Activision would let Guitar Hero 5 hit the market without including a new guitar controller, did you? Good because what you see above is just that, the Guitar Hero 5 bundle you’ll see hit store shelves on September 1st.

Other than the red  , this controller reportedly uses an updated touch pad that will use digital input as opposed to analog found on the previous gen controllers.

There’s no word if this guitar will be made available as a stand alone product or exclusive to the Guitar Hero 5 bundles. Either or, do we really need another guitar controller? I mean, was there anything wrong with the other 50 on the market?

The traditional unveiling of a game’s box art always happens when the community has stopped buzzing about a game. It does make sense, publishers want more hype etc. But anyways — Activision is proud to show off the box art for their upcoming Guitar Hero 5.

So yeah, check out the box art above and prepare for its September 1st release date on the Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 and Wii.

Any bets on how long Activision will continue the Guitar Hero franchise until the community grows tired? I have my money on at least Guitar Hero 15.

It’s no secret that EA’s skate pretty much demolished the Tony Hawks Pro Skater series in both gameplay value and innovation. Activision, however, isn’t going to stand by the side lines and watch one of their cash cows go to waste.

Enter Tony Hawk Ride, featured in the above introductory video. As you can see, Neversoft is really attemping to up the ante on this one even focusing the entire game around a skateboard shaped peripheral.

Will this be enough to thwart EA’s efforts? Probably not, but we’ll have to see. Oh yeah, get mad at Activision, not me, for including virtual 0 minutes of gameplay footage in the trailer.

Neversoft has confirmed that they are no longer working with the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series. Joel Jewett, one of the founders of the developer, said in an interview: “It’s probably best for the franchise … it’s time for someone else to add fresh ideas to it,” Neversoft is currently working on Guitar Hero as its main franchise.

It has been hinted in the past that the developer to take on the game will be independent Chicago-based Robomodo. It was formed specifically to work on a “high-profile extreme sports title for Activision Blizzard.” The company is currently seeking to fill several job positions on its webpage.

It was only last year that the publisher announced that its flagship franchise had made one billion dollars altogether. The Guitar Hero series remains the fastest selling of all time.

The first batch of DLC for the game has popped up on Xbox Live, showing individual tracks for 160 points ($2) and a trio of tracks for 440 points ($5.50). The songs are “Rock and Roll Band” by Boston, “Hot Blooded” by Foreigner and “Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield.

Two other track packs are also available for download, though they are free.

World Tour is due out October 26 on PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii.

"We’ll be actively monitoring the site," said Neversoft project director Brian Bright. "We can’t condone people putting up covers of music. It’s really there for original content."

It was further stated that if there’s a licensed song and someone holds the copyright to it, they will “take it down regardless of whether or not someone complains.”

Users will be able to create MIDI tracks and import them into the game, using its music creation suite. These songs can then be shared online amongst users.

The album will be priced at 1440 Microsoft points ($18) and will pack two exclusive editions of “Suicide & Redemption”; it will not feature the album version of the song. Additionally, the album will be compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour which will be released this Fall.

While he wouldn’t reveal any details, G4 speculates that the new device is a keyboard. The studio had previously revealed that players can use the guitar controller to map out keyboard units and drum machine programming in the editor.

The fourth game in the installment is in development for release this Fall on PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii.

“We have been working closely with Neversoft and Activision, Harmonix and Konami to ensure that PlayStation 3 guitars and drum sets will all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility,” he wrote.

He explained that both the drum kit and guitar from Guitar Hero 4 and Rock Band 2 will work with each other; drums and guitars from both titles will also be compatible with Rock Revolution, while that game’s drum kit will be compatible with the other titles.

Shorrock also noted that microphones from SingStar will be compatible with both Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero 4.

As for compatibility between the current games in the market, he wrote that the company is “working hard” and that they hope to have an announcement shortly.

The game is due out this Fall on PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. It introduces vocals and drums to the franchise.

The preview published in the magazine also lists several confirmed bands that will appear in the game, including the Beastie Boys, Nirvana and Muse. No specific tracks were mentioned though.

Guitar Hero World Tour is set for release this Fall on PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii.

The songs are “Tina” by Flyleaf, “Carcinogen Crush” by AFI and “Putting Holes in Happiness (Nick Zinner Remix)” by Marilyn Manson. No price point was announced, but previous packs have sold for about 500 Microsoft points ($6.25).
