If you’ve been dying to play your NES on the go but don’t to build your own portable device you should check out the recently announced FC Mobile II.

As you can see, the FC Mobile II looks like what you’d expect from a handheld console except it’s bundled with 2 wireless controllers and a Duck Hunt-esque light gun. So, it’s safe to say you’ll be able to connect this thing to an external monitor.

OhGizmo says the FC Mobile II is expected to ship sometime next month for a none-too-bad price of $60, I want one.

Lode Runner Game Review–An Near-Perfect Port, If You Care In The First Place

Way back when, in the depths of the eight-bit revolution and the good old straight-eight Nintendo Entertainment System, back when Mario was still a plumber and not a merchandising icon, I remember playing a little game called Lode Runner.  It was a strange little title, a kind of strange puzzle / platform action hybrid in which you ran around a maze, trying to lay hands on piles of gold while being pursued by robots who would have preferred it if you were dead.

You were unable to jump, and instead were given a blaster gun that didn’t work on your enemies, but rather on the floor to your immediate left or right.  I didn’t have a whole lot of fun with it, but maybe that’s because at the time I was like eight.

Now here’s the part that really got me.  Recently–like within the last couple days–I found a copy of Lode Runner on Xbox Live Arcade, for twelve hundred Microsoft points.  And except for the updated graphics, there’s virtually nothing that distinguishes it from my memories of the original.  And oddly, I STILL didn’t have a lot of fun with this.  Fully twenty years of growth and maturity still couldn’t make this canard be fun.

So if you’re looking for an almost completely intact copy of Lode Runner with a little bit of a graphics upgrade, then head on over to Xbox Live Arcade.  And if you’re not, then don’t worry–you’re not missing anything.

Sony hasn’t been in the games industry for quite as long and Microsoft is a relative newcomer to the console game.

Majesco Bringing Classic Puzzle Game To Wii

March 4th, 2009 2 Comments   Posted in Adventure, News, Puzzle, Wii

While puzzle games aren’t quite as popular anymore they were a perfect fit for the lower processing power and graphical output of early consoles like the Nintendo Entertainment System. One of its most classic titles was A Boy and His Blob. The puzzle title followed the adventure of a young boy who meets a blobby alien that has the ability to shapeshift when fed different jelly beans. Each variety of candy corresponds to a different shape including trampolines, umbrellas and jacks. You as the player have the task of choosing the best item for each situation.

Majesco Entertainment has just announced that they will be bringing this classic title to the Wii. The storyline remains much the same with the boy helping the blob defeat the evil Emperor who has seized the throne of Blobonia. Though the game will be getting a graphical update the gameplay itself will remain much the same: the levels (of which there will be over forty) are still side scrolling and will require careful thought and judicious use of jelly beans to conquer. There will also be hidden treasures and bonus content to unlock along the way. New jelly beans will allow the blob to turn into handy devices like a cannon, shield and others. The game will be released this fall, twenty years after the original.

A Boy and His Blob remake for Wii

It was recently announced via Nintendo Power that there will be a Wii remake of the popular NES game, A Boy and His Blob.

Don’t know what A Boy and His Blob is? You’re probably not alone; it was a side scroller for the original Nintendo Entertainment System in which players take control of a boy and a blob named Blobert. Blobert likes jelly beans and tends to turn into different shapes when fed them. Yes, an adventure ensues.

A Boy and His Blob will hit the Wii at a currently unannounced date and is being developed by Way Forward Technologies. Want more info? Go pick up the latest edition of Nintendo Power!
