No more updates for Operation Flashpoint

If you’re a fan of Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising you’ll be disappointed to hear that Codemasters has recently confirmed that they will no longer be releasing patches or DLC for the game. The reason for this being that the studio has now completed the Dragon Rising chapter and has moved onto bigger and better things.
Of course, this most likely means another game in the series but we will wait for official word before we pass judgement.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising network patch on its way

The last we heard of a DLC pack for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising was a few weeks ago but recent reports suggest that new content isn’t the only thing that will be released. If you’ve been playing the game online you’ve probably already made note of the choppy gameplay but Codemasters hopes to remedy that with a patch that will be released at the same time as the first DLC pack.
There’s no official confirmation as to when this patch will be released, along with the DLC, but according to Codemasters it will make online gameplay “flow a bit better”.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising DLC hinted

Codemasters‘ Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising only just hit store shelves on October 6th but according to the game’s Executive Producer, Sion Lenton, that is only the beginning:
“It’s a really different type of market now; I remember five or six years ago, you’d get a game, finish it, put it back on the shelf and that was it. But now it’s almost as though the game’s release is just the beginning, really. Ours is a game that lends itself very well to expansion – there will be weapons packs, map packs – all sorts of things we can do to get our product out there.”
He then further elaborates on the game’s DLC future:
“We’ve got some very ambitious plans with DLC – our first pack is coming up in a matter of weeks,” Lenton said. “We’ll also have title updates coming up because once the game’s out there, we’ll need to get feedback from the people who are playing it, and if need be make a few adjustments and tweaks.”
So basically, instead of shipping the full game this new market gives developers the tools needed to continue to exploit support gamers for as long as they want.

Bohemia Pissed Over Operation Flashpoint Sequel
Codemasters has been touting the upcoming Operation Flashpoint sequel as an “official” return to the series for some time now, and it appears Bohemia Interactive, developers of the original game and the ArmA series of spiritual sequels, is not taking kindly to this, as they are protesting against Codemasters.
Bohemia developed the original military shooter which Codemasters published back in 2001. However, the two companies parted ways over legal disputes, and Bohemia continued making military shooters under the ArmA name.
Recently Codemasters announced its own Operation Flashpoint sequel, placing it in direct competition with ArmA 2, which has upset Bohemia.
"In the license agreement, Bohemia Interactive expressly reserved the exclusive right to develop sequels to the original OFP game," said Bohemia attorney Leora Herrmann. "Codemasters also acknowledged that Bohemia owns all the intellectual property in the game–except the words ‘Operation Flashpoint’."
"Since Codemasters has no right to use the Bohemia Interactive game engine or any other component of the Bohemia-developed game, how can it rightfully claim to produce a ’sequel’?" asked Bohemia CEO Marek Spanel.
Spanel admits that while they cannot stop Codemasters from publishing the game, he believes that the company should not promote it as the official sequel to the original.
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is due out on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this summer.
