Kotaku recently sat down with Microsoft’s Phil Spencer to have a bit of a chat about the forthcoming motion controllers and what consumers can expect from them. Spencer, for one, is very optimistic about motion controllers’ future saying we will most likely seeing them accompany consoles in living rooms everywhere.

Below is a quote from Spencer regarding his stance on the subject:

“Much like with multiplayer, I think it will become the norm. If you are a racing game without multiplayer the game just didn’t sell. We think that motion control, we think voice recognition, should become a part of gaming as well.”

While I agree, motion control is definitely the future (showcased by the Wii’s success) I don’t know how fast the generation of gamers who grew up with a normal control will move on. For instance, playing Halo with Project Natal? Sounds like a nightmare to me.

Project Natal to possibly appear in future Fable titles

If you thought that Project Natal was going to be just be a gimmicky Wii remake perhaps recent reports will make you think otherwise. It seems that Joystiq has recently done an interview with Microsoft VP’s Phil Spencer who said he wouldn’t be surprised if the technology makes its way into a future Fable title.

Below is an excerpt from the interview:

“You know, Lionhead’s been a real innovation studio for us. We have the release of Fable 2 episodic this week, where they’re taking Fable 2 and breaking it up into chunks, allowing people to buy the content at their pace. Fable 2, I thought, was a great release, with the orbs they added with Live, adding new functionality to the franchise. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Natal found its way into future iterations of Fable.”

So, if more major studios like Lionhead pick up Project Natal, we may be seeing some very innovative uses come from it.

Microsoft: Our Games are Better Than Sony’s

microsoft_game_studios_logo_180 Microsoft is super-confident about going toe-to-toe with Sony on first-party exclusive games, as the battleground prepares itself for the Christmas onslaught.

Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Game Studios, proclaims that he’s confident that Microsoft’s first-party games are better than Sony’s similar products.

“Let’s start from the beginning of both consoles – PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 – which first party has had more success on their own platform? We have Gears, Halo, Forza, we’re continuing to push existing IP while bringing new IP to market. I’ll line up against Sony’s first party any day,” he said.

This year sees a lot of big titles come out of the Microsoft camp, including Gears of War and Fable sequels, Banjo, Lips, Scene It and many more. Spencer is also confident about next year’s Holiday lineup: “I’m confident for next Holiday as well, that we’re going to stand up at the next E3, or at the right time, and we’ll show a line-up that will continue to win. We talk about our games when we understand what they are. I’m not going to put a billboard up on stage and say, “Boy, I hope you buy this game when it comes out and when I know what it is…”

He also directly talked about critic scores of the company’s line-up of titles against Sony’s, remarking that his camp gets better reviews than the competitor’s.
