Despite facing a delay at the end of July, Frozenbyte’s Trine will officially make its way onto the North American Playstation Store this October 22nd.

Make note that European PS3 owners have had their hands on side scrolling platformer for almost 2 weeks now so it’s nice to see that Frozenbyte and Nobilis (publisher) are taking the woes of North American gamers into account.

No word on pricing but we’ll let you know as soon as it’s made known.

The add-on will allow players to venture into a new arena, where they will be pitted against new foes for a chance at new items and spells. For 360 owners, new achievements have also been unlocked. Word on the Windows DLC will be announced soon, but no word as of yet.

The DLC will cost you 400 Microsoft Points, or $4.99.

Just as the ESRB suggested late last month, Metal Gear Solid has found its way onto the Playstation Store in the form of a Playstation 1 Classic.

That’s not all thats been added as Tom Clancy’s GRAW 2 for the PSP and an NCAA Football 10 demo have also made the cut. Of course, a bunch of Guitar Hero and Rock Band songs, wallpapers along with a bunch of other stuff you probably don’t care about were also added.

Sony has recently announced that they will begin offering their Vidzone service for the PS3 and PSP in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

If you don’t know what Vidzone is, it’s a free service that allows users to stream pretty much any music video they want to their PS3 and/or PSP through remote play. At launch the service will have 10,000 music videos with more being added regularly. In addition to watching pretty much any music video you want, you can also create a playlist of music videos.

If you are in one of the locations that I listed above you can head over to the Playstation Store and download Vidzone for free.

That’s the idea behind Worms, one of the most recent additions to the Playstation Network. It’s already been out for Xbox Live Arcade for more than two years but its continued success prompted a port. It’s actually even older than that, with the original Worms having debuted on PC in 1995. After remakes and spin-offs the game landed as a remake on these two current-gen systems.

While they’ve updated the graphics and sound, the gameplay remains essentially unchanged, which in this case is an excellent, excellent thing. The setup is simple; each player begins with a team of four worms who are spaced randomly around a randomly generated landscape. Each turn you have sixty seconds to move and attack.

The weapons are wide enough in terms of both tactical usage and amusement, though there are some you won’t find yourself using often such as the sheep, which usually just meanders itself off a cliff or explodes nowhere near your opponents. One of the more amusing and useful weapons is the holy hand grenade. Set your arc and toss it. Once it comes to a stop, angelic music sounds and it explodes, smiting your enemies if your aim was true.

One the huge appeals of the game is the high level of customization. First off you can create your own team of Worms, with the ability to give them all names as bland or humorous as you want, though you might want to check out the voice options. If you’re unfamiliar with the game simply know that your worms will squeak out various comments as you play. Your options are quite broad; they can speak French, talk like robots, howl incoherently or whatever you prefer. I myself went with a team of worms named after various Scotch Whiskeys (Disclaimer: neither Digital Battle nor myself promote underage drinking, drinking and driving, alcohol abuse or pouring high-proof alcohol on worms and setting them on fire) with the ‘angry scotsmen’ voice option. You can also choose what their tombstones will look like when they kick the bucket.

Game types are also customizable; you can set the number of rounds, starting weapons, health, etc. as well as choosing the overall style of landscape, number of mines and a handful of other options before each round. Throw in online multiplayer matches and the ability to face off against up to three friends locally as well as computer opponents and you’ve got a recipe for a lot of replay value.

Overall the controls are simple and a tutorial gets you up to speed very quickly on the basics of gameplay. Honing your skills however is on you. The only complaint I can voice is that when you’re moving around the level the camera doesn’t automatically follow your current worm; moving the worm uses the left analog stick, the camera moves with the right analog stick. When plodding along at the slow crawling pace of the worms this isn’t an issue, but one of the more useful methods of getting around is the jet pack. This is where things can get a mite tricky. If you’re not operating the two in concert it’s very easy to lose track of your worm, which can lead to accidental death if you steer them wrong or if your jet pack runs out of fuel at the wrong time.

If you’re a more experienced gamer who tired of the Worms series long ago then there’s nothing here to rekindle your interest but for fans or gamers completely unfamiliar with the experience it’s a blast and well worth every penny of the download price.

Sony announced the availablity of full games for download from their Playstation Store some time ago but still there is a drought of Playstation 1 games. Well, a quick posting done by Capcom’s Christian Svensson over at the Capcom-Unity boards gives us all a ray of hope.

Apparently, Capcom has submitted a number of their Playstation 1 titles for later sale in the Playstation Store. However, he is quoted as saying the following, “Word I got back this morning is that this may take a bit more time than anticipated.” 

More time than anticipated huh? They better at least be good ones if we’re going to have to wait. Which of Capcom’s Playstation 1 titles would you guys like to see for sale in the Playstation Store?

"As you may know, Capcom has been a huge supporter of PlayStation Network, so we collaborated on a special storefront to coincide with the release of Age of Booty," wrote Sony’s Ro Hernandez on the PlayStation Blog.

Custom storefronts for other publishers will follow in the future, though it’s unknown exactly which publishers will get love from Sony.

Capcom’s store will open tomorrow with the weekly PlayStation Store update.

The PS3 update will let you capture your own in-game screenshots, though this will depend from title to title. It will also add support for the official PS3 bluetooth headset, a new video scene search, background downloading, display custom developer-made Trophy icons and several other stuff.

The PSP update will be interesting, as it will finally let you access the online PlayStation Store directly from the handheld to download games, demos and more from any Wi-fi hotspot. It will also add a sleep timer for music playback, full-screen QWERTY keyboard and the ability to output downloaded PlayStation games at full-screen on TV.

Focusing quite extensively on the PSP this year, what with a new model coming out, Sony has announced that Japanese PSP owners will be able to directly access the PlayStation Store on their handhelds to download content. No PC or PS3 will be required for the download anymore.

To make the service that much more sweeter, a free PSP game will be released through the PlayStation Store – Mainichi Issyo Portable.

To be introduced in a future firmware update, the handheld will also be able to play PSP titles online through the PS3. Titles such as Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G are compatible with the new service, with Sony announcing other games soon.

Unfortunately, it is not clear when these updates will hit other territories, as the PS Store and online multiplayer through PS3 is currently limited to Japanese users who will get it this Fall.
