F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin DLC trailer
The new DLC for Monolith Productions’ F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is looking scary. Reborn will be putting you in the shoes of Replica Soldier Foxtrot 813 as you play through four new missions. It’s estimated that it will take two hours to complete.
A demo for F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn will be out August 27th, while the full version will have to wait until September 3rd for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
FEAR 2 Toy Soldiers Pack Dated, More DLC Incoming
Staying true to its previously vague April release estimate, publisher Warner Bros. today announced that the free “Toy Soldier” multiplayer maps for F.E.A.R. 2 will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 16. They also revealed details on two more pieces of upcoming DLC.
May will see the introduction of the second pack that brings more multiplayer maps. Additional single-player levels and multiplayer maps are due out this summer. No pricing was given for either DLC.
Also, they wouldn’t confirm if these DLC would come to PC. However, it is known that support for downloadable add-ons for the PC version is coming.
FEAR 2 Demo Coming
The official French-language blog for FEAR 2 Project Origin has posted word that a demo for the upcoming horror shooter will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 on January 22. However, Qore subscribers will get early access to the PS3 demo a week before that.
The site also carries word on the Windows demo, though it is vague, but still stating that it will be released before the end of the month. They are apparently pushing Monolith for an exact date, and are hoping that the demo will hit simultaneously with its console brethren.
FEAR 2, bringing more scary-little-girl-action, is due out on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on February 10.
No DX10 support for FEAR 2
The upcoming FPS FEAR 2, a.k.a. Project Origin, will not support the new Direct X version, according to Monoliths John O’Roke. He cites lack of time for implementing Microsoft’s new graphics API, but adds that they’ve achieved what they were looking for visually by using the existing, and much more popular, DirectX 9. O’roke also notes that DX11 and GPGPU API’s like Nvidia’s CUDA have a lot of potential for future games.
Direct X 10 has had a horrible track record and adoption rate, to say the least, since it’s not offering much while generally takes more resources to run. And the fact that it’s only available on Vista, which hasn’t been the biggest success in terms of operating systems. By far.
Project Origin Gets Brand Name Back
IGN reports that horror-shooter Project Origin will now be known as F.E.A.R.2: Project Origin, adding to the wearing out of ellipses on keyboards worldwide.
While Monolith had created the original FEAR, the sequel was not going to use the moniker due to Vivendi owning the title, though Monolith held the rights to its characters and settings. Things changed as Monolith and Warner Bros. have purchased the “FEAR” brand name from Activision Blizzard.
The new conglomerate had previously disclosed that it intended to retain only a couple of Vivendi properties, which has left Ghostbusters and other projects in limbo.
The sequel is due out on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on February 10, 2009.
Project Origin Pushed Back
Monolith has announced that its horror shooter sequel Project Origin has been delayed to 2009. No reason was given for the delay.
“We’re going to release multi SKUs–so PC, PS3, 360, Q1 next year,” said art lead Dave Matthews at the Leipzig Games Convention.
The game was previously set for release this Fall. It continues the storyline presented in F.E.A.R. for which Monolith no longer retains the rights to.
