The DS is currently holding the top spot in hardware sales, with its home console counterpart trailing behind. Amazingly, the PlayStation 2 is still almost selling as much as the PlayStation Portable. The price is obviously a big factor in consumer decisions, with the failing economy and other circumstances.

As for software, Prototype debuted and sold over 400,000 copies, topping the charts. Many sports titles follow the sandbox action game, including Tiger Woods PGA Tour and Fight Night Round 4.

While we’ve been celebrating independence and freedom through fireworks, groups of artists had been slaving away on a challenge set by the infamous Yahtzee who declared that between Sucker Punch and Radical – makers of infamous and Prototype, respectively – parody the other’s character the best gets to be the winner.

And then eyeballs exploded all over the world.

Cross-dressing was the name of the game, and the results are something that the world has never seen, and should never see. If you have the courage, hit the link for viewing Alex Mercer riding an unicorn and the infamous guy doing Vegas.

The game has players donning the role of Alex Mercer, a shape-shifter who goes on a rampage to find out what happened to him. Also, New York is attacked by a virus that created horrible, disgusting mutants.

It is being developed for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. This comes from the same studio as Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, which was pretty awesome, to say the least.

We’re really anxious to see what Prototype’s Web Site is going to reveal in about a day. Following the link below will get your right at their home page which features a countdown timer. According to it, in about 1 day and 5 minutes we’re going to see what Activision has planned for us. The game developer, Radical Entertainment said that the action adventure game will arrive sooner than planned, although it failed to give us more details. And that was before Christmas! In just a day we should finally find out what the Prototype is all about. Keep your eyes on CES 2009.

The prototypes range from star formation to simple OpenGL-based creature games.

“One of the ways in which we explore possible design directions is by building simple, playable prototypes that we can play around with to get a sense for a particular system,” reads a statement on the developer’s website. “Usually these prototypes are never seen by the public, but we thought some of the more intrepid players out there might enjoy playing around with a few of our early Spore prototypes.”

Interested users can head over to this page, which also provides a short description for each prototype.
