March 6th begins QuakeCon 2009 registration

It was recently announced via the official QuakeCon website that registration for the even will begin on March 6th as precisely 9:30PM EST.
If you don’t know what QuakeCon is, I’ll give you a little information. QuakeCon is an event held yearly organized by id Software, developers of the popular Quake series where the convention got it’s name. You bring your computer to this free event and participate in all kinds of tournaments and contests.
Just to put it in perspective, QuakeCon is apparently North America’s biggest LAN event and the biggest free LAN event in the world.
Sounds cool, right? This year QuakeCon is to be held at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas from August 13th to the 16th. Be there!
Carmack on iPhone Development, Relationship With Apple
id Software co-founder John Carmack took the stage at QuakeCon this year to talk about the studio’s games. However, after showing off some new footage of Rage and briefly mentioning Doom 4, Carmack went on to talk about iPhone game development, stating that they have “two different projects” in the works for the platform.
“Pure graphics wise, [the iPhone is] about equivalent to a Dreamcast, but if you were to compare it to a console, it’s pretty close to a previous generation console,” he said, adding that the phone has a lot more RAM than previous generation consoles.
Carmack also talked about his relationship with Apple as a company, noting that they “make nice” when they need him, but that he makes their “shit list” when he speaks honestly about the company.
QuakeCon 2008 Dates
QuakeCon, a LAN event celebrating the first person shooter Quake that has been going on since 1996, is still going strong to this very day. However, instead of being only for a single game, the convention has expanded to many different areas, including announcements for new software titles. id Software has announced that this year’s festival will be at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas from July 31 to August 3. Registration opens up April 30th at the official website.
