Resident Evil 5 ‘Versus Mode’ DLC pack gets price reduction

A few months ago the Versus Mode DLC pack was released for Resident Evil 5 which added nothing more than new multiplayer game modes which had players pitting themselves against zombies and eachother. After said DLC was released gamers everywhere whined about how Capcom was charging for a feature that “should have” been included in the original game.

Lucky for them, Xbox Live is cutting the price of the pack to 240 Microsoft Points from 400 Micrsoft Points as their latest Deal of the Week.

Still don’t want to pay for new game modes? Well, that’s up to you.

Resident Evil 5 3D Stereo benchmark tool released

July 16th, 2009 2 Comments   Posted in Action, PC

Along with Capcom uncovering the release date for Resident Evil 5, they have also released a benchmark tool to test your NVIDIA 3D performance and experience first hand on how it looks and feels.

If you’re not fortunate enough to have all the gear to run 3D Vision, you can still download the tool and see if your computer is capable of running the game with no problems; the demo runs fine without all the fancy vision kits.

The download clocks in at 581MB and can be downloaded at NZone.

Resident Evil 5 dated for September 14th PC release

July 16th, 2009 3 Comments   Posted in PC, Technology

Resident Evil 5
made its console debut over 4 months ago and only now can we put our fingers on a solid date for the game’s PC rendition.

Capcom has officially anounced that the game will be hitting shelves for the PC in North America on September 14th and in Europe on September 18th.

Ripten reports that the PC version will feature an upgraded Mercenaries mode with 3x more enemies along with new customes and higher resolutions. The most interesting part about the PC version, however, is that it will feature support for Nvidia’s 3D video cards.

Resident Evil 5 in 3D? I’m down.

Resident Evil 5 on Wii a possibility, albeit slight

July 9th, 2009 1 Comment   Posted in PlayStation 3, Shooter, Wii, Xbox 360

Seeing as Resident Evil 4 was originally a GameCube exclusive, fans can only wonder why Resident Evil 5 still hasn’t been released for Nintendo’s successor console. Graphical limitations aside, the gameplay formula would still work great, pointing to Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition as proof. Speaking to games™ magazine, Capcom Chief Producer Masachika Kawata was asked whether the popular survival horror game would be released for the Wii.

“Hypothetically speaking, the Resident Evil 4 engine would work perfectly for replicating the gameplay but we would never be able to recreate the graphical quality” Kawata explained. “A gun shooting game like Darkside Chronicles makes much more sense for Wii so, in short, Resident Evil 5 Wii Edition isn’t likely to happen.”

With that said, Kawata also mentioned that he was impressed by Cavia’s work on Darkside Chronicles, and said that Resident Evil 5 could be a possibility after all. Even though the game might not look as pretty as it does on the 360 or PS3, it would be interesting to see how the game would play out on the Wii.

Capcom releases Resident Evil 5 sales numbers, close to 5 million

May 25th, 2009 No Comments   Posted in PC, PlayStation 3, Sales, Xbox 360

Resident Evil 5 was released a little over 2 months ago and recieved generally positive feedback from the critics but we were left in the dark in terms of sales numbers until now — During the Reuters Global Technology Summit held in Tokyo last week Capcom CFO Kazuhiko Abe made a statement that the game has sold around 4.9 million copies since its March 13th release date.

About 4.4 million, Abe says, were sold during the game’s release month with the additional ~500,00 being sold in April. Despite being a rather huge drop in sales Capcom apparently expected it saying they only plan to sell another ~500,000 copies through March 31st, 2010.

Kotaku notes the fact that games with a “hardcore, existing audience” such as Resident Evil 5 sell well in their first few months but once all said hardcore fans actually purchase it sales drop dramatic amounts. Now I’m just hoping to see Resident Evil 5 for like $20 at Gamestop, then I’ll be happy.

Resident Evil 5 Confirmed for PC, to Have Exclusive (Stupid) Feature; SF4 and Bionic Commando Due Out This July

As one can expect from Capcom these days, the PC versions of Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter 4 and Bionic Commando are all on their way, with the latter two due out this July. All three will be sold both via retail and online digital distribution.

Also, all games have been optimized for PC and will have new features. Here’s the big deal:

Street Fighter IV
The PC version of Street Fighter IV will feature online play, higher screen resolutions and three new shaders based on three of the "artistic" trailers released in 2008 that will change the visual appearance of the game: "watercolor," "posterization" and "sumi-e ink" styles.

Bionic Commando
The PC version of Bionic Commando will support higher resolutions than the console version, remappable controls including mouse and keyboard support, support for both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 and online connectivity for multiplayer sessions.

Resident Evil 5
The PC version of Resident Evil 5 will feature online play for co-operative play sessions over the internet and will also take advantage of NVIDIA’s new GeForce 3D Vision technology (wireless 3D Vision glasses sold separately).

Sounds boring, but sign me up for some Resident Evil action on my trusty ol’ computer.

Resident Evil 5 action figures are awesome

April 24th, 2009 No Comments   Posted in PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

As you can see from the above picture, these things are not your run of the mill action figures. In fact, they come to us from Hong Kong based toy maker Hot Toys who, Kotaku is reporting, specializes in highly detailed action figures.

Only two Resident Evil 5 characters made the cut the first time around, Chris and Sheva, who both come with clothes, accesories and enough weaponry to deal with the zombie onslaught.

There’s no word if these will be released Stateside but I’m sure if you do enough searching you can get these suckers imported.

re5 versusdlc Capcom today announced that the Versus multiplayer mode DLC for Resident Evil 5 will be released tomorrow on PS3 and Xbox 360.

The DLC will add online 1v1 and 2v2 in two new modes. First up is “Slayer’s Rule”, a simple mode where teams compete to kill the zombies. Second is “Survivor’s Rule”, a mode where players hunt each other.

It will cost 400 points ($5) despite the anger and fury it incited in fans.

Next Resident Evil Could Take Eight Years

The biggest downside of advances in gaming technology is that the more complicated the games get, the longer they take to create. More features equal more complex coding which means there are even more things that can go wrong. Every company loves a good franchise, since they can keep churning out titles with familiar characters and a high chance of success.

Capcom just released Resident Evil 5 to happy fans everywhere and unsurprisingly there’s already people talking about the next game. Technically the ‘next game’ will be The Darkside Chronicles, the next lightgun style game for the Wii, but people are most concerned about the possibility of Resident Evil 6, the true successor to the most recent title.

Despite the near-guarantee of profitability for any new Resident Evil title, it seems that Capcom isn’t sold on making Resident Evil 6: “We haven’t decided whether we’re going to make Resident Evil 6 yet… But if we do, it could take anywhere up to eight years, but hopefully only four,” said Masachika Kawata, producer on RE5.

Resident Evil 5 ships 4 mill, sells 1.6 mill

Sure, we found out that Resident Evil 5 was smashing records left and right, but no tangible numbers have been released until now.

Capcom recently released a press release on their Japanese website stating that 4 million copies of Resident Evil 5 has been shipped to retailers.

VGChartz, on the other hand, has compiled some data that leads them to believe 1.6 million of these 4 milion copies have been sold since its March 5th Japanese street date.

Resident Evil 5 Breaks Records

The newest survival horror title from the excellent Resident Evil pedigree is breaking records. Not for body count, not for the most controversy for early screenshots or anything to do with the content; it’s all about the shipping. Over four million units were sent out in the very first shipment, the biggest first shipment for any game in the series. Hard numbers for the game sales are currently unavailable since it’s been out for less than a week in the western world, but given the popularity of the series, huge shipments and impressive sales figures for Japan (319,590 units sold for the PS3 and 79,157 sold for the Xbox 360) we’re likely to get confirmation soon that the game is selling excellently everywhere.

The game will likely go platinum soon (if it hasn’t already), with nearly half a million sold in the first week in Japan alone and with Capcom announcing that over forty million units for the whole series have been shipped as of now.

Capcom reveals RE5 Multiplayer pricing for Japan

If the fact that you even have to pay for Resident Evil 5’s recently announced Versus mode didn’t enrage you enough, you better look away.

Capcom recently announced that Japanese players will be getting the DLC for 160 Microsoft Points or ¥250 over PSN (about $2.50). This compares to the North American pricing of 400 Microsoft Points and $5.

Sure, Capcom, you explained why the content needs to cost money, now explain why the Japanese get it cheaper!

Capcom justifies charging for Resident Evil 5 multiplayer

March 13th, 2009 1 Comment   Posted in DLC, Multiplayer, Online, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Capcom has recently issued a statement regarding the fact that they will be charging for the Resident Evil 5 Versus mode that we learned about earlier today:

Although Versus mode makes use of the assets that exist in the game, the functionality is not currently in the game and is above and beyond the initial scope of Resident Evil 5,” the publisher said. “We have never included a versus mode in Resident Evil before, and as well as the costs of development of the feature, there’s also additional bandwidth costs associated with it.

So basically they are saying that since it’d never been in the game before, and it wasn’t originally on the drawing board it’s ok to charge for it. I guess it makes sense…

But, if Resident Evil 5’s matchmaking is going to be anything like Street Fighter IV’s, I’ll save my 5 bucks.

Resident Evil 5 to get multplayer via DLC

March 13th, 2009 2 Comments   Posted in DLC, Multiplayer, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve never really been a fan of the Resident Evil series. When Resident Evil 5 was announced to not include multiplayer functionality I was almost positive it wouldn’t be added to my collection.

However, Capcom recently announced that the game will in fact be getting multiplayer thanks to a downloadable content pack that will be available a “few weeks after Resident Evil 5 is available”.

Entitled “Versus”, the new game mode will give up to 4 players the chance to duke it out against eachother in a point based Slayer variation, or player vs. player Survivor variation.

Again, the pack will be available a few weeks after Resident Evil 5’s March 13th release date and will cost 400 Microsoft Points or about $5.
